    I'm friends with a few different artists of varying degrees of success. Often the most successful drawing they'll make isn't the one they put the most effort into, but just some random quick thing that appeals to whatever fad is popular at the time.
    It can be heartbreaking to put days/weeks/months into something only to have it be overshadowed by your legacy of being "that guy who spent 5 mins drawing that meme comic"
    Ultimately the best thing you can do is accept it, be nice to your new influx of viewers, and hope that whatever you're actually passionate about will manage to keep them around after your 5 mins of fame dies.

    I don't know if Sajam is ever going to read this, but I wonder if he ever considered also uploading some short clips of his D&D sessions. Most people may be afraid of getting into hour long videos without knowing that much about D&D. A monthly/weekly highlight reel may pique the interest of these people.

    • @Giraffinator
      @Giraffinator Před 3 lety +15

      I thought the same exact thing. I don't have the attention span for dnd sessions but I'll totally watch shorter highlight vids.

      I think this would be a great idea, I've never watched Sajam's DnD videos before. Not because they're too long individually, but I just feel like I"d have to go back and watch sooooo many. I love the small videos he puts out.

      @henriquerodrigues7795 Před 3 lety +2

      My problem with the DnD is that I really like it, but I take really long to get through the sessions. So I'm like 23 episodes behind at this point, and because of that I can't even really watch the live sessions.

    Same can be said about Among Us, most people did not care about the game or knew it even existed for over two years before it became extremely popular. I think the developers for Among Us did not set out to make one of the most popular games of the decade when they set out to make it but with time it did become that.

  • @Sleeepy.
    @Sleeepy. Před 3 lety +4

    I think the main reason why this happens is because of the net being cast by a piece of work, the more resonant it is with people, the more niche it is usually. The video you make that will resonate with the most people possible won’t be as perfect because people’s interests are different. Your interests are very specific so the thing you’re most proud of will have the largest impact on the few people who are most like you.

    I relate to this video SO hard... I'll spend days working on a piece of art that I'm really proud of, showing off characters or stories that are important to me and trying really hard to get the lighting and colors just right. I post it up online and I get basically crickets. Then, conversely, I'll do a quick color drawing that appeals to a baser audience and is literally nothing more than a silly idea that takes me a couple of hours from start to finish, and it'll get SO much more attention. It can be disheartening if I think about it too hard.

    Being mentally prepared for your work to flop is probably one of the most challenging parts of content creation at least for me anyways. It's so hard not to get hyped up on your own stuff that you believe it's going to do great only for rubber to hit the road and no one looks at it. It's hard not to get in your own head and try to figure out why and eventually work yourself into a point where talk yourself out of making more content but you just got to push through because eventually something will work.
