In this video, we will be discussing two really exciting details from the Alien Romulus trailer that suggest the involvement of Engineers or Space Jockeys in the plot. I already have broken down the entire trailer in my other video, so definitely check it out if you haven't seen it yet.
But upon further analysis of the trailer, I discovered two additional significant details. The first directly references David, suggesting that he completed his Xenomorph design, culminating in an Alien queen. And the second detail indicates some form of direct involvement of the Engineers in the plot.
On the surface the trailer suggests that Alien Romulus is a soft reboot situated in the Alien timeline but seemingly unconnected to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, however these details indicate the complete opposite.
Let's start with the connection to David's storyline, followed by the detail that points the presence of the Engineers in the film. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I know im in the minority, but I really like Prometheus and Covenant. Yes there are plot holes. Yes there's a lot of questions. But they're both beautiful films and important to the over all story. Im so looking forward to Romulus. I have a feeling they're going to nail it. Fede seems to really appreciate the franchise and seems to be a true fan, so one would think he knows what the true fans want to see in a new Alien film, and i really hope he delivers. The trailer was absolutely perfect and looked like they're off to a good start. Will def be in theaters seeing this night 1. By far my most anticipated film of the year
Prometheus was one of the best Alien movies, i would even put it above Aliens. Covenant was meh, some things made 0 sense and i put it in the same camp with Alien 3 and Resurrection.
But if Romulus is a straight up reboot, it would be such a waste.
I love them too better than predator alrhough is good aliens n prometheus are excellent
I loved Prometheus and Covenant had in enjoyed Covenant. I felt like with covenant they were trying to placate to the studio and fans that don’t like the philosophical questions being asked so with covenant they tried not explore that the way that they should. But I’m all for the existential.
I thought both movies were a giant mess, but the parts I liked about them were the David / experiments / engineers stuff, and I really wanted to see where it was all going. So any threads that pick up on that will be welcomed by me.
@@angeltzepesh1 i agree. prometheus is one of the best looking movies ever made also. the production level is crazy. i love that movie. i have it above aliens too. aliens is great but overrated like a motherfucker. i accept covenant as is because i know he compromised to get it made but i wish they let him finish what he was doing the way he wanted.
We need a film where they go to the Engineers true homeworld. Engineers in Alien Covenant are not our Engineers
ong
Yes. The concept of the Engineers is a trillion times more interesting than David and his experiments. Covenant and this next bug hunt are soooo disappointing.

Given the quality and coherence of movies these days, the explanation for the blue mist could be as simple as ”we thought it looked cool in Alien so we put it in this movie as well, something for the fans to notice” without any consideration to if it makes sense inside the world of these movies.
That would be awful.
@@Glocktologist just like in Covenant where they all took their helmets of without any kind of worry. Aren't the crew supposed to be scientists, are they really that dumb?
I do agree one thing I've noticed in recent years is that Fans put way too much thought into these big, franchise movies than the actual Directors and their writing teams. I would like Fede to connect it up but Im simply not going to build my hopes up; I did that massively with Covenant and with quite a few other movies, especially starwars and been let down. Not again!
actually the explanation of the blue mist is that Scott originally had in mind to have something more complicated as a "protection" element and was not really doable, but the set had this blue light from a concert that either happened before or after the shooting and they found that it looked very interesting... so it was kind of a "sure thatll work" thing that ended up being very iconic
@@RaikenXion for sure we drastically overthink this stuff... if you've been involved in any kind of storytelling or script writing on this level you know that its hard enough just to make a film work, and the deeper backstory is not nearly as fleshed out in the minds of the writers or directors as we like to think
Prometheus is one of my favorite movies, but not as part of the whole xenomorph lore. I was really fascinated by the engineers--the idea of seeding our worlds and our search for a creator. I hope they continue to touch on that.
If it had been completely unconnected to Alien it probably would have been a much bigger success and would have avoided all the backlash from guys who just wanted to see cool marines with PULSE RIFLES making xenos explode
Kroft is here! 👽
Great video. But. I really don’t get the hate for Prometheus. I thought it was a magnificent work of art. And I love the idea of these engineers and how they seed planets for whatever reason. And I absolutely love the idea of man’s great achievement’David’ developing a God complex. I think it’s great. lol. Anyway love the channel bro.
I agree...I love Prometheus and Covenant. Are they flawless...No...but as blasphemous as it is...I can pick out flaws in Alien and Aliens as well. I think the David arc was great and I really wish we had gotten the third part of that trilogy. I'm still looking forward to Romulus but it's a shame we won't likely ever get a true ending to the David arc
I totally agree with both.
Also, and regrettably, I don't think Romulus is going to have any connections with the previous two.
@@warborn_inc. agreed 100%
Same here its a masterpiece. But the public just want pointless lore -less horror.
I yearn for our episode 3, our revenge if the sith , if you will
I must admit, as much as I long for the film that finally connects to the first movie, I'm loving all the prequels about engineers and the origins of life in the universe.
The ‘wolf’ on the door, is related to Romulus and Remus (the two children under the wolf in the very same image - that same image is a very famous historical image taken from the story of Romulus and Remus). Also if a theory only links the new movie to the Prometheus story arc via a deleted scene then surely - straight off the bat - the theory is moot, because quite simply a deleted scene cannot be considered canon ….because it was deleted from the final presentation. Therefore, it didn’t happen.
I wonder if that means that there are characters that are supposed to represent "Romulus" and "Remus" (outside of the space station names)
I had to check if someone else had already said this. Thank you.
"a deleted scene cannot be considered canon ….because it was deleted from the final presentation."
No.
There is a 'theater version'/'radio edit' and then there is a 'director's cut' - and the references in question go back to at least Alien 3.
WY DAVID is just a missing link that explains why the company is aware of the species in Alien 1 and concerned with protecting and refining _a bioweapon_ - whose destination appeared to have always been Earth where 'a culling could accelerate evolution' (as a theme of a 'predator-prey dichotomy', playing out in every movie plot - where a predator species literally rapes and 'impregnates' protagonists).
This. I don't think Kroft is familiar with Romulus and Remus. And this new movie is trying to get away from the previous two films.
@@nebulaneptune20 The station itself is said to be divided into two distinct halves with or areas and they each have a very different aesthetic and levels of technology, etc. Familiarise yourself with the biblical story of Romulus and Remus and that should help bring it together for you without me giving too much away about the station, etc.
To me it seems more and more that David is trying to recreate the Xenomorphs but he is NOT the original creator of them. Neither are the Engineers. They were also trying to recreate the Xenomorph or Deacon. But the origin of them is still more ancient than we realize
I dream one day of seeing an alien movie that covers in extreme detail the time between Dr. Shaw rescuing David and Dr. Shaw dying.
The only way to truly connect Prometheus and Covenant to the other movies, is the fact that it has to be David in that seat, in the derelict. And that he birthed the Queen. Somehow. Remember, silicon based lifeforms....
David is much too small to be that being in the derelict...
@@maximusmorphine2418 True. It might seem fitting otherwise..
This Ultimately could have been the Conclusion.
Ridley Scott had indicated that we was 2-3 more Movies away from ALIEN.
He indicated that the Xenomorph has some evolving to do before we get to ALIEN.
He said that the Xenomorph in ALIEN Covenant was more Organic and not Biomechanical like in ALIEN but we eventually will discover why the Xenomorph is Biomechanical.
And we would eventually discover who the Space Jockey was.
And so YES it could have been likely that David (in a Walter Model Body) could have been the Space Jockey and/or where the Biomechanical Xenomorph came to be.
i believe it when i see it. They talked so much shit about these amazing Movies and Scotts revolutionary perspective, that i would be not suprised if the movie will be just a dumb stylized actionmovie that is working sorta well before they release the follow up. (re: force awakens)
I loved all the ideas Scott had for his series but well, the suits dont like people dreaming big so they cut em short. I think it will be the case here as well.
I would be suprised if they make any conections to Prometheus at all.
But i would love to be wrong! And i like your creative optimism :)
Personally I don't think Scott would be attached as producer if it didn't connect up to all his 3 films.
That looks more like a bear than a wolf on the door.
This movie is named after "Romulus", one of the twins Romulus and Remus who were raised by a wolf and who became the founder of Rome. Romulus ends up killing Remus in an argument over where to put the city, this is the fight between the twin androids David and Walter in Covenant. David is Romulus.
"David is Romulus."
Actually, good point.
But the myth is rather trivial, maybe about a lesson on 'hubris and discipline' (Remus jumping over his brother's wall) with Roman history always having a Janus face: Monarchy-Republic, agrarian-imperial, Patrician-Plebejan (Optimates, Populars), Senatorial-Caesarian, citystate-Church...
Predator-Prey seems to fit that dialectic pattern only formally.
@@christophmahlerthats why in original alien, the company knew Xenomorph.
@@RACH90810
"(...) thats why in original alien, the company knew Xenomorph."
Exactly.
I made that point, elsewhere.
I don't know the respective script, but the established lore that Weyland-Yutani knew of the species, already can't be broken.
The short film 'Advent' displays the communication between WY and DAVID.
David is Dr. Frankenstein. Man creates it's own worst nightmares.
Frankenstein - The Modern Prometheus (1818). But it's really Peter Weyland who is closer to Frankenstein and David is his Monster.
From what your saying the Engineers already created the Xenomorphs and eventually abandoned them, David was just trying to recreate what they destroyed. I mean in hp Lovecraft the Shoggoths were the creations of the Elder Things so it’s not really that different in my opinion.
The engineers created the xenomoprhs orginally. David only stole their ideass as you even said.
It'd be so great if they add David or the engineer homeworld in the post credit scene
2 Kroft videos in a week? Feels like Christmas 🎄 🎉
I think the blue mist might have more chances of being a coincidence, but I'm intrigued to see more about it
Damn I hope you're right man. Ridley Scott supposedly said that Romulus was "bloody brilliant" and given that he always complained that other Alien movies didn't explore the space jockey and origins of alien, I take it as another hint that Prometheus and Covenant aren't completely retconned in this
Never click a video so fast!!! ✌️
Thank you for another awesome video Kroft!
I can actually see the previous films connecting to Romulus, and I also believe since I saw Alien Covenant, I also believed that David recreated the Xenomorph species with his experiments with "The Pathogen" since the drawings and some of the dried out bodies weren't part of his experiments, the cave inside the engineer world from Prometheus already showed an organism similar to the Xenomorphs into the wall of the main cave where "The Black goo" was storaged. The only way to know about this answers is to wait for the movie and see how the Xenomorph outbreak took place on the Romulus station.
Always enjoy these!
David is the best bad guy ever

You should work for the Studio! It could be a good use for them, then you know more about the franchise as they ever will! 😄
You might be turning me around on my decision to completely avoid Romulus with this... 🤔
when kroft speaks, the world listens
I heard he talks about movies 😏
great job brother...now I can look forward to it without reservation.
Great video as always 👏🏻
I really hope that this theory is not true and this film goes back to the original storyline without the engineer intervention. Having said that, I'm not holding my breath for any alien reboot anymore.
Great work again my friend 🙌
this makes me so happy
The whole David Creator plotline really is one, if not the, biggest let down in Ridley Scott‘s career. It has robbed the Alien franchise of its biggest mystique. So sad.
If Alien Covenant is a mess, it means that Alien Romulus is even more terrible.
Great theory video!!
I enjoyed this video but I think the links will be just subtle nods but not direct connections. I think this will be an accurate and well thought out story that doesn't break canon but doesn't tie in or build much either.
Kroft: "...on the other hand I might be overanalyzing these details"
Well, we'll see, won't we?
Thanks for creating this, sir. I share your belief that the mystery of the alien has become over explained. I too loved the original Lovecraftian horror, and the suggestion that these Space Jockey creatures stumbled across them millions of years ago before the eons of time fossilised the original pilot. I think that’s what made it all so eldritch and unknowable for me. It truly felt more “alien” when I had no concept of where it or even the Space Jockeys came from.
Alien 1 made man look smaller in the universe, with ancient threats and struggles truly alien - as it should be in comparison to 'UN Waggontrek in space' - but the first movie had already established that the corporation new about the species, with the android as it's agent.
Therefore it shouldn't surprise that Scott came up with 'hallucinating AI' DAVID as a link to take man down a notch - though with a maze-like plot and world building (from the movies, the engineer species appears to be completely superfluous, the xenomorph may as well have evolved, naturally).
Agree. It would be so much better to have the Jockeys just stumbled across them. What could be so strong to put fear in such a powerful and advanced society? That would have been a better plot.
We might never get a clear answer on this, but the Alien species is remarkably well adapted to impregnating humans. That's incredibly unlikely to happen without some kind of evolutionary interaction - or design.
@@J0MBi
"(...) the Alien species is remarkably well adapted to impregnating humans. That's incredibly unlikely to happen without some kind of evolutionary interaction - or design."
It's a very good point - in our contemporary perspective - but it is likely that no such considerations were taken when Giger conceptualized the 'Alien' species life cycle for the first movie - back then it appears to have been a more artistic approach of merging sexuality, violence, technology - and insect social organization - into one image of horror.
The human genome e.g. wasn't sequenced when Alien was produced while in 2008 gain of function research had altered the traits of viruses, bringing such technical details of genetic engineering into the public record.
One can wonder whether Scott decided to reboot the franchise because of these social events and had then shifted the protagonist de facto from a familiar female heroine to a male android - even more, have the female actors literally slashed when other movies feature all female heroine casts...
The movies didn't resonate well if taken at face value, hence the rise of 'Alien Theory' channels on social media where people wonder about the artistic process and the world building.
@@christophmahler Yeah it's definitely something to consider. Science fiction and art is always to some degree a reflection of the era and context it is produced in, but from what I've seen of the pre-production materials for ALIEN and Scott's discussion of his ideas for a potential ALIEN 2 project a lot of the concepts explored in Prometheus were in Scott's mind for a while. There was an entire religious/sacrifical element that was dropped from the original ALIEN script due to budget restrictions, and both Cameron and Scott mused openly about the nature of the crashed juggernaut and the origin/purpose of the Alien species it contained.
As for Giger's designs, I remember reading something to the effect that he had recurring nightmares of the images and creatures in his art and once he created the art works and shared them the nightmares stopped. But as you say they are clearly drawing inspiration from all kinds of sources and touch on all kinds of subjects that people find repugnant and taboo.
My own personal take on the shift to focus on David is to give the audience a singular villian character who embodies the specific kind of evil that Weyland-Yutani always symbolised. He takes on the nature of his creator, a man who clearly seeks to gain the power of the gods for his own ends, and David takes over Weyland's work after Weyland's death on LV-223 and seeks that power for whatever ultimate goal he envisions.
Where this fits in the context of film protagonists/antagonists I'm not sure, but I reckon that Shaw and Daniels being removed offscreen is best explained with the easily observed audience backlash against the characters, and studio interference in the projects generally. But again this is just another example of the real world conditions a text is produced in shaping the text itself.
Jeez guys it’s pretty obvious what Fede is doing. He gets his shot at an Alien movie and he’s not linking Romulus to Prometheus or Covenant by putting the gaps of the those 2 movies in this new one. But think about this, how long can these guys keeping making these movies and not exploring the SJ in the cockpit. My prediction is that at the very end of the movie we will see David or an Engineer. There is absolutely no way Fede could make another movie with Aliens chasing idiots on a ship. The next movie has to tie LV-426, the space jockey , and God himself , David.
Love your videos on this
They ruined the IP with the whole David made the Xenomorphs thing
We need a movie on who created the engineers .
We would only need a film explaining who created them as well, we need an explanation as to who created the universe
Gladiator 2 .
Great video! I think at one point, you said something about David resurrecting old technology. You don't like the idea of David creating the xenomorphs, and I don't either. Instead of creating them, he could have reverse-engineered them from pre-existing Engineers' records. They banished the "wolf", and David resurrected it.
All of this would be possible because of an Engineer ship crashing on a planet, releasing the black goo. And once the local fauna was changed, humans come along and encounter it--with an AI android picking up where the Engineers left off. After reverse-engineering the Engineers' "wolf biotechnology" David sends the info to Weyland, and the rebirth of the wolf continues. So many events needed to happen in order to lead to the events of the Alien movies.
Also, perhaps the derelict spacecraft was the one that was on its way to deliver its payload of xenomorphs to Earth, but crashed before it could. The Engineer in Prometheus rips off Weyland's head because he knows that Weyland comes from the planet that he was on his way to destroy.
Man, all of these details about origins and explanations really makes this IP feel more and more like X-Files lol
I can't get behind the idea that David is the creator of the xenomorphs for the simple fact that the room with the black goo in Prometheus had a xenomorph in the mural.
He didn't create them, just continued them with an android with a god complex motivations.
David felt humans and Engineers were not on his level. In Prometheus we basically saw on the ship where the Engineers experiments seemed to have backfired on them. It was David’s perfect opportunity to play God more than his father Weyland. David wanted to perfect what the engineers couldn’t and tame the Xeno which he did in Covenant and the Engineers didn’t in Prometheus which is why they were all piled up dead. David essentially did create the Xeno because more than likely if David does reappear the Xenos will run rampant and David will have full control of them with a flute in his mouth
@@koncise0363 I appreciate your reply and this makes sense. I am onboard with your speculation. But what is the xenomorph in the mural about? It would seem that the Engineers know what the end game looks like. Is it depicting the thing the Engineers wanted to create but were unable to control? Is that what you are saying?
Sounds like you didn’t listen to the plot spoilers for Romulus before making this video. Might wanna catch up.
Thanks for the music from Breath Edge, a brilliant video game.
"Romulus" was the name of the founder of ancient Rome. The "wolf" image is an ancient image of the legend of the founder of Rome, which said he and his brother were raised by a "mother wolf". It's interesting and that's there in the movie for a reason

Probably nothing new will give us, just action and nothing about Engineers.
I for one hope you are right on both counts. - The blue mist is absolutely an Engineer tech!!
3:08 the image on the door is of the twin brothers Romulus and Remus suckling at the Wolf Mother. Romulus killed Remus, and went on to found the city of Rome, and the Roman Empire.

Thanks for pointing out the deleted scene.
I wasn't aware of it and regardless of the actual relation to any upcoming movie, it is noteworthy within the lore or mythology of the franchise.
Alien III did already make references to Latin Christian civilization, among other tropes, within it's soundtrack:

I REALLY hope we get closure for David...
Are you going to address the fact that the 'original script' of Prometheus that you spent several videos analysing has been proven to be a fan made fake?
Gladiator 2 will have the engineers
I can tell by the actors that I will be rooting for the aliens.
I felt that the 'blue mist' was more like an atmosphere thar protects and sustained the Alien eggs - perhaps triggered by the pilot upon an emergency landing scenario (which it did on LV planet).
A downed ship or mission failure by the Engineers would have eventually discovered by the Engineer race after the mission time had passed and not returned to base.
Engineers wouldn't launch a craft with eggs as well as a Queen, as the Queen would protedt its offspring and kill the crew.
In the absence of a Queen, maybe this blue mist atmosphere is necessary to keep the eggs healthy and recoverable.
In Alien 2 the mist wasnt needed as the Queen was present.
David was going to Origae-6, not the Engineer home world, the Engineer home world as stands now in the story is Planet-4, it could be rectified later though
Some info for you @Kroft - this blue mist is acting like a stasis field for the eggs. This can be seen in the original AVP games from early 2000s. Primal Hunt expansion pack had the mist i believe.
I'm sure the Engineers discovered or created their own xenomorph. David is simply creating his own version or trying to improve it.
I do think you have put 2 and 2 together and made 6 with these theories, Frede has stated he has put nods to previous movies as a sign of honouring what came before and will most likely not have any heavy influence on the story
Fantastic
I’m excited only about this
I was excited about Smile 2…. But the trailer looks stoopid!
So now it’s Alien Romulus all the way!
The blue mist acts as a suspension field or dampener for the eggs to keep them from popping in transit
I discovered the myth of remus and romulus thanks to my art-history teacher, she explained us that the word "wolf" in Rome was similar to the word they used to refered to the "ladies for company".
You know what word it is
Yes, the "wolf" who adopted them, in the original legend it could more likely have been a prostitute
"Ladies" in the context of a highly civilised Rome doesn't mean Ladies in the low sense of today.
@@wiard
Well I thought CZcams will delete my coment
You are referring to *'lupanaria'* or 'wolf den' - the reason is the refined fetish of excessive vocalization, say grunting, growling and screaming in the act.
The idea of an origin myth, related to prostitution is interesting, but considering that abandoned children sometimes do happen to be adopted by mammals (wolves children in France and India), it is rather the other way around (prostitutes fantasizing about 'raising' Roman legions)...
Yeah....I don't think we'll get anything referencing david except maybe another rouge transmission like he sent in alien covenant at the end of the movie which is clearly a stand alone film the only way we will se david again is if ridley scott does us a solid and finishes the prometheus trilogy
The Xenomorph as the Wolf, I am reading the Inhibitor series ( and so should you ) and the Inhibitors are called wolves by the mother of the human hive mind.
Did they ever explain the metal teeth ?
where can i find this background theme music??? its awesome
Imo the blue mist thing is a stasis field of some sort to contain the eggs in the original alien
If there are face huggers, there is a queen. You can't have the first without the other. They come out of eggs, and we all know where those come from.
The wolf is a reference to Romulus and Remus. I think you are seeing things that aren't there.
I’m still so disappointed that they abandoned the Engineers storyline, and doesn’t seem like they’re going to in upcoming projects. The Engineers storyline was a formula for success and would have rejuvenated the franchise-it was so intriguing as a viewer and left me wanting to know more and more after Prometheus. I watched that movie so many times I’ve lost count 😂 give me more Engineers damnit not some story about teenagers going back to an old colony from a previous movie or whatever Romulus is about. All I know is the plot is _NOT_ centered around expanding on the Engineers. So weak
I just wanted more emgineer lore, no remakes or xenomorphs

Sadly deleted scenes aren’t canon so this is all just speculation
Have you seen the footage of what could be the same ship Ripley floated through space in?

Romulus will likely not be treading on the toes of any other Alien Movies. It will likely not indicate nothing regarding the Origins of the Xenomorph. We will see the Goo, and indicate that it is used to create the Facehuggers.
So do you think they are making Romulus then make another Alien with a different with Aliens chasing humans then make another movie with another ship name and have more aliens chase humans. There won’t be hard ties to previous movies during the heart of the movie and towards the end it will tie this new movie to the engineers, black goo, or maybe the SJ and Juggernaut
@@koncise0363 It really depends on how well Romulus does and how it Ends....
But the Ending doesn't matter in regards to sequels.....i mean look at the End of Aliens and Alien 3... and Alien Resurrection. Meaning that if the end of Romulus there is no Station, no Xenomorph it doesn't mean they can't follow up to it.
