Conrail Shared Assets train WPCA-11 heads northbound on the Pennsgrove Seconday in Woodbury, NJ. Leading the train is C40-8W CSX #7785 with one of the best Leslie
RS5T's I've heard. Hearing a Leslie RS5T in 2011 is certainly a rare gift. Nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to the rich, haunting, melodic tone of a Leslie RS5T.

In the '80's, this horn would appear frequently attached to really beat up, and old Chessie GP- 9's and
GP -7's in their original C&O paint schemes roaring Northbound out of Toledo, Ohio on the old Pere Marquette line to Plymouth, Michigan and the junction with the Detroit/Grand Haven line. I lived out in the country close to Monroe,
Michigan then . The echo of these horns at night would go on forever.

I miss that sound so much. Grew up in southern Ontario CSX and NS both ran through/beside out farm. When the video started you could hear the familiar low drone of a GM, was surprised to see that horn on the GE.

Nice catch, also this is probably the only video on youtube that a locomotive had a burnt out ditch light as well.

I saw a similar video where a conrail was driving in the snow and instrad of having a burnt out light, the locomotive had its right ditch light completely covered in snow.

As of 10/7/11, this unit no longer has an RS5T. Now has a 3rd Gen K5LA.

That horn (Leslie RS5TRRO) was the standard horn on virtually all of CSXs predecessors and they inherited over a thousand of them. CSX management decided to standardize on the 2011 K5LA and aggressively replace the Leslies at every opertunity. A crying shame.

That might be why the manufacturer decided to stop
making the S5, according to an
article in Trains Magazine quite a few years ago. If they don’t
buy it, they stop making it!
I think Trains also reported that
      the company that made Leslie
horns sold out to someone else!
If a person looked into it, it’s
either a cost issue, or there might be politics involved in why railroads stopped buying
      Leslie’s!

i watched this in 1080p. nice video.
i saw one driver at 1:20 turn around. why are so many people impatient with trains? yes it's somewhat inconvenient, but the train will pass and you all be on your way. oh and why do some impatient people have to drive around railroad crossings? they won't win. those who make it, got lucky.

The people saying the ditch light is burned out have no idea what they're talking about. What you're seeing is a courteous driver signaling for a right turn to give other trains a chance to swerve out of the way.
