  • Aretuza the Witcher sorceress school is the place where most of the famous witcher sorceresses trained in the ways of magic. Sorceresses like Yennefer of Vengerberg, Triss Merigold, Philippa Eilhart, Margarita Laux-Antille, Tissaia de Vries, Sabrina Glevissig and many other mages trained at this sorceresses school. But what does a life at Aretuza look like? What do the sorceress learn? How do sorceresses learn these skills? What is Aretuza even like and what happened to Aretuza in the witcher 3? In today's witcher lore video I hope to answer these witcher questions and more, as well as just discuss magic and sorceresses in the witcher.
    The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game, set in a visually stunning fantasy universe, full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter tasked with finding a child from an ancient prophecy.
    Geralt of Rivia, is a witcher, or monster hunter for hire, a white-haired and cat-eyed legend in his own time. Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength and reflexes, witchers like Geralt are a natural consequence of and counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live. As Geralt, you’ll embark on an epic journey in a war-ravaged world that will inevitably lead you to confront a foe darker than anything humanity has faced so far-the Wild Hunt.
    Built exclusively for next-generation hardware, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt marks a new era in RPG visual quality. Raising the bar for the entire genre, with its deeply integrated 5.1 audio and jaw-dropping graphics powered by CD PROJEKT RED’s proprietary REDengine 3, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promises an entirely new kind of experience.

      The Lodge wasn't a school though, it was a group of female sorceresses who got together after the Coup to further the cause of magic. Aretuza was Hogwarts for girls in the Witcher world.

    One minor point. It is mentioned in the books that a witcher's touch produces a tingling sensation to witches, and apparently Geralt is particularly good.

  • @AnimeAmimatorMizore
    @AnimeAmimatorMizore Před 4 lety +174

    It's very interesting how the books vs. the show are about handling Aretuza; the show really makes an emphasis on how much Aretuza and the established sorcerers/sorceresses (the Brotherhood) really dedicate themselves to politics; that they can and will manipulate their students into various powerful courtly positions so that the North is held at a certain kind of controlled equilibrium by the Brotherhood. The books are a little more ambiguous; there's signs of manipulation and the like, but it's not completely clear. Many of these sorcerers/sorceresses seem much more interested in more than just politics (that is not to say Philippa and Yennefer and some other notable sorceresses aren't). It's just very different. The book makes it seem like they have a lot more varied choice post-graduation. The show makes it seem infinitely more politically-driven (and at times as harsh as the Witcher Schools).
    Plus lol, yeah. I'd say that Geralt (and any other witchers) would be very interesting to the sorceresses. Long-lived, reasonably magic resistant, invulnerable to disease, etc. Geralt's also a pretty decent guy. And eye-catching; cat eyes and snow white hair? Makes him downright *exotic.*

      Where did you read in depth description of swords !? Steel sword is regular sword with runes etched on it. Silver sword is compound of steel coated with silver and is not used that much. Geralt have hobby for weaponry, because well he likes swords and his armors. There is nothing that much "in depth" about swords weaponry. The only descriptions of weapons is when he first encounter some soldiers, with different weapons or any character with weapon so we get description to imagine how it looks. But its mostly medieval weapons. Very well known.

    • @kazoola4309
      @kazoola4309 Před 4 lety +7

      She was actually talking about her experience as the Rectoress of Aretuza. At the time, Vilgefortz had become an esteemed sorcerer long before she became rectoress. Most of the members of The Lodge (possibly excluding Ida Emean and Assire, because none of them were present at The Battle of Sodden Hill, where Vilgefortz became the hero of Sodden) already knew and saw how powerful Vilgefortz is. So when she said this, she was talking about the current state of the students from Ban Aard, which wasn't as competent as the ones in Aretuza.
      She wasn't forgetting Vilgefortz because he'd long graduated before her time as Rectoress. And to be honest, Vilgefortz actually became one of the only sorcerers who was incredibly powerful both in magic and politics, because the other powerful and competent sorcerers were already killed during the coup in Thanedd, leaving only rather mediocre sorcerers (except Vilgefortz, of course).
