Beyond how amazing it is! for me it will be the movie of a lifetime - because I was suppose to see it with my dad! He passed before it made it to the box office due to set backs.
Whoever is playing “Comanche” (support asset) is either real military or is a superb voice actress. The inflection, cadence, and tone are incredibly authentic to real world military comm chatter.
Yeah I like the comparison between her and the other radar actress. There is something more theatrical about the grandness the other one seems to speak but Comanche has that inflection of like this is my job and I take it serious.
The build up to the take off in this scene is amazing. Everything from Maverick picking his team to the conversations to the music to to actual take off. One of the best films ever made.
There is SOME real precedence too that could have influenced this raid choice. Thats called Operation Opera. Conducted by Israel in 1981 target was a unfinished Iranian nuclear reactor.

Some were CGI (the f-14 and the 5th gen fighters, also often it was one plane doing something and the other's were just CGI copies or it was multiple single plane shots spliced together to look like planes were flying close or doing more dangerous things). Also some of the cockpit shots were from on the ground as well. Any shot that showed the cockpit from a view from the pilot's feet (like when Rooster looks up and sees Mav defending him with flares) are shot on the ground in a fake seat since they couldn't fit a camera in that location in an actual plane.

This scene will never not give me chills. When Jon says “Send them.” And then “Dagger 2 away. Dagger 3 away” gosh just full body chills. The people that do this for real are super heroes.
This scene is perfect. The anticipation of the mission, pressure building up, friends possibly saying their last goodbyes, combined with the brilliancy of Hans Zimmers score makes for an extremely emotional pre-mission scene. I saw this movie the day before I left home for my freshman year of college. This scene broke me. This scene/act makes the movie for me. Movie making at its finest.
It is a close call. I’ve watched both movies so many times already. Obviously, I’ve had a lot longer to enjoy Empire, but Maverick thrills me and draws me in just like back in 1980.

The timing and shot breakdown of this scene is A-one -- the cross-cuts between the team members in their planes, the launch sequence with Maverick, the way it brings in the "Support Assets" (the comm officers/the radar specialist in the air) and those smooth shots of the planes racing through the canyon. Doesn't get much better than this.
The Academy always hates popular movies and always pushed 'oscar bait' trash - pretentious and niche art house movies that no one wants to watch. I seriously want to see if the Academy has the balls to snub Top Gun Maverick for some crappy art house movie. That will signal the END of the Academy Awards for the general public from now until the end of time. They had better be smart about it.

At this scene in the theaters I had chills, I was both excited and nervous because this scene was really cool showing the U.S. Navy getting ready to fight and I was worried if something bad would've happened like if the mission fails or if someone was going to die.
The whole final act.... I've NEVER been more sure the hero was gonna die in action movie history. Which makes his survival and the surprise finale all the more fun to watch!

@@georef8504 well actually that is part right the front wheel locks or bolts into a shuttle and many pilots use bolt! they use the same airwaves as helo air rescue and supply system and all the other service aircraft! so a pilot on the freq knows where the acft is what it is doing and what it will be doing. that acft might reference the pilot "bolt touch down helipad one". now the catapult acft knows his her status .... then you have acft orbiting the ship as well!!!! combat turn over can be 15 minutes between acft then you also have LSO, safety, fueling officer, service and handliing officier and the airboss staff all on the same freq or carrier frequencies.... not a good time to be picky!!
The first 30 seconds of this scene does such a great job at setting the tone. The expressions on their faces, the music, even the body language of Phoenix as she gives the “engine start” signal. No Hollywood false bravado or hype, just a group of professionals mentally preparing themselves for a mission. So good.

The lady “Comanche” stole the show she’s gotta be a real life operator the professionalism the cool collected demeanor, I think im falling in love with you ma’am, is it getting hot in here?
That's because she WAS real! I was watching a podcast (The Fighter Pilot Podcast) where former fighter pilots and a tech advisor on the film were talking. The movie producers went to the schoolhouse in Fallon, NV (Top Gun's present day HQ) seeking a technical advisor for the E-2 Hawkeye scenes (i.e. Commanche). They interviewed one of the instructors, and they ended up using her in the film. It's reminiscent of how R. Lee Ermey came to play Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in "Full Metal Jacket".
This movie was so damn good I laughed. I forgot how it was to enjoy something with no overbearing political statement. Just a badass military action movie.
Preach, brother. I've seen it 8 times in theater. My heart has never pumped this hard for a movie. It's inspired me in so many ways. I wish I could go back and see it for the first time again.

If you pause at 2:35, the ship designators are listed and they correspond to real ships in the navy... USS Seawolf (sub) , USS Leyte Gulf (cruiser), and USS Vincennes (cruiser) and the carrier is the Theodore Roosevelt. Even the designator for the Tomahawk is accurate (BGM-109c)
Which is a bit strange as USS Seawolf of its namesake class, despite being a fast attack sub, are more used for other types of missions. Would have made more sense to use a Los Angeles or Virginia class sub like the USS Cheyenne or USS Texas.

If you pause at 2:35, the ship designators are listed and they correspond to real ships in the navy... USS Seawolf (sub) , USS Leyte Gulf (cruiser), and USS Vincennes (cruiser) and the carrier is the Theodore Roosevelt. Even the designator for the Tomahawk is accurate (BGM-109c)
Which is a bit strange as USS Seawolf of its namesake class, despite being a fast attack sub, are more used for other types of missions. Would have made more sense to use a Los Angeles or Virginia class sub like the USS Cheyenne or USS Texas.
@@EmperorHelixseeing SSN-21 wouldn’t be that unusual. Seeing CG-49 is, because that ship was decommissioned and possibly scrapped years ago. So very, very minor error.

More so of the Leyte Gulf, active irl and in TG timeline. By at this time irl, USS Leyte Gulf is probably decommissioned now. But it's safe to say that Leyte Gulf made one last hurrah with its tomahawks in the TGM timeline before returning home from deployment.
@@scarecrow108productions7 if this AU US Navy is like our actual one CG-49 still wouldn’t be there. The 1st 5 Ticonderoga cruisers were decommissioned because they did not have the Mk 41 VLS system, and the money either wasn’t there or wasn’t asked for to upgrade them
