Could not be happier with this design. Everything that I wanted in this layout was included within the (very compressed) space provided. Bart was extremely easy to work with and communication with him was clear and concise. Highly recommend his services!

Thanks Bob for the opportunity to work on your design for you. I am really pleased with how the design turned out.

I'm actually starting to build a Lego train layout and I found this very helpful. I would like some realism to my train operations. Thank you.

Your welcome. I also design lego sets (track only):

    Lovely layout! 😊💜
Goodness! This my neck of the woods - spent most of my youth in Skaneateles, the eastmost Finger Lake. My dad made a really neat HO rendition of the Skaneateles Short Line back in its steam eara. This RR was a 5 mile point-to-point connecting the New York Central with many textile industries along the way to the resort town of Skaneateles where vacationers could ply the lake the resort spa via steamship.

Thanks Brettany for the kind words. It is such a nice part of the country. Let me look up the Skaneateles short line!

@@DubaiTrains there is a lot of history to it from 1840 to 1981. There was a wood (rail!) era, then early steam, late steam, and the last year's with a pair of GE 44 Ton diesels. There was/is a creek that drove several mills in the early eras prior to Skaneateles Lake becoming the water supply for Syracuse NY. Also, there was an urban electric trolly between Syracuse and Auburn the ran right down the main street of Skaneateles in the early 1900s. That would be cool to model in addition to the SSL.

What is that software you're using? It looks like it'd be fun to play around with and sketch up dream railroads that I'd never actually build.

The double track cross-over in the top RH corner faces the wrong way. As drawn, two trains cannot pass each other without one of them doing a reverse move. Using two RH switches instead of two LH switches overcomes that limitation.

Hi GL, thanks for the addition. The operating plan doesn't account for any trains meeting there. That is not the purpose of this yard and small terminal. Continuous running is the goal.
The design still allows for two trains to meet of you wanted to, down below at the siding.

    • @gulflines1960

If continuous running is the goal then reversing the direction of the crossover will significantly improve operations because it will provide two places where trains can easily pass, instead of one. Using it as a lead to switch the classification track (as you call it) is inefficient as that operation will interfere with continuous running on the mainline. If you want to switch those two classification tracks then you would be better off adding a switch lead on the inside of the circle. Trains could then run around the 'yard' using the two cross-overs, while the existing mainline is used as an arrival/departure track.
Reversing the crosover direction will add no extra cost but greatly improve operating possibilities.

As explained in the video, the operating plan is P2P. The track heading to the right completing the loop doesn't exist as far as the operating plan is concerned. Continuous running is only occasionally done when one wants to e.g. railfan or run in an engine. That is the underlying thought of that goal. So not to run as much train as possible on a single track 12x12ft layout. Furthermore the turnout arrangement is a nod to the prototype. I am not saying you are wrong, this is just how my design is. Anyone who wants to use this design is free to arrange the turnouts how they deem fit.
