Welcome to my channel! Here I share my passion for model trains. I show everything from building benchwork, backdrops, track work, wiring, weathering, realistic train operations and book reviews. Everything you need to get started in the hobby no matter what scale! Please subscribe if you want to see more.
👏 Simple AND far less expensive.
Yes, I guess around 75 bucks for the entire layout. 😬 Including signals. Of which i will need to replace one because it doesn't look that great.
Thanks for sharing your thought process, I cannot wait to see the final results.
Your welcome HJ, It might be too simple for what you are planning. No automation here!
@@DubaiTrains I need to find some part of the RR to not over complicate.
Although my current plan is to use NCE Light-Its (DCC Connected) with JMRI for signals. It will end up being all about the programming. (I am not a programmer)
It's always the internal debate, do I make it vs buy it. At least with me.
It is. Time vs money vs fun.
I see your approach. JMRI will be that magic box that needs to be programmed. If you want to learn how to program, go for it! If your not sure, keep an option B in mind, that still allows you to utilize the investment.
Personally I try to be less in front of the PC and I have no ambition to learn how to program, although I have done some basic stuff in the past. But what are the options? The atlas signaling system? I am sure you have done some basic math on that system already.
Good luck with the journey!
Interesting, thank you
Very interesting topic, not sure if will add any signals, if I did it would be just for looks , time will tell , great video for sure
I like the signaling system you're putting in place. The Pennsy used tower operators to control portions of the line. The one Pennsy layout I operate on actually assigns people to operate the towers. However, since COVID he has gone to smaller crew sizes, so some of the towers are now controlled by local crews when in the area much as your doing. His signals are interlocked to the turnouts to minimize mistakes (or cause more because we all don't always understand the system).
Thanks for the addition. Your last comment ties in nicely with my guildline 2. Not that one should always shy away from complexity, but until our crew is a well oiled machine and we have rolled out other layers of realism like horn & bell use and speed restrictions just to name a few, this will work just fine.
cool, ready to get started on my setup as soon as your're available
Hi Reg, working on it!
Hey,
You are doung very welll to create your own signalling system and its up to you, of what you are using onto your own roadname.
Me I am using Main- and Branchline signalling.
Shunting operations are possible at any Station or inside yards apart from the mainline signalling operations.
If any train passes the Main or Beanchline, the shunting will be stopped or would be banned into areas apart from the mainline, sounds complicated but it isen't it.
Hi Ingor, thanks for the addition. Yes that is also how i would do it if i wanted to fully signal the line. I do have a rule that all traffic onto track 2 to must be called in.
it all just got a little more complicated
But it was meant to be simple ;-)
You are right. Another layer. And I have so many more layers in the 'drawer'. I need to pace the complexity a bit as we 'the crew' are still just getting acquainted with the layout. Despite being another layer of complexity the signals will simplefy train movements for us crew. Now its clear when they run a red light!
