Thanks so much Robert! It was really hard to record most of the day as it was downpouring most of the day which made it quite the adventure!

I’ve seen in on pictured many times, just a bummer that it poured cats and dogs that day. I’ll be back one day!

Hey Luke! I want to thank you for this video. My friend and I were camping this summer and planned to go to Nantahala. I had read that the campgrounds were sketchy (open/closed, unattended, neglected and potentially abandoned). When we got there, I had great difficulty finding the campgrounds and at the locals acted like they’d never heard of any campground in the area. While it was pretty and we had been looking forward to rafting, it was afternoon and we had to make a decision. We decided to drive on and check out Gorges State Park.
The only way I knew about Gorges was from the end of this video...in the mist! I had seen it when looking into places to visit, camp and have adventures along our road trip. We loved it! The campground is less than a year old. It was clean with very nice bathrooms and showers. They accommodate tenting, RVing and had a few very nice cabins (must be booked in advance for a minimum of 2 nights). Each site had parking for two vehicles, a high/low lantern post, a gravel tent pad and picnic table. We really enjoyed the waterfall hikes and the brand new visitor’s center was beautiful and very informative with views and rockers on the deck. There was a nice gift shop and the rangers were very helpful. It wasn’t crowded at all. If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t have found this park, so thanks!
For anyone considering visiting the park, we ate at THE FIX in town. The people were warm and friendly, the restaurant cozy, the service good, prices reasonable and the food (pub style) was delicious! đŸ”đŸŸđŸ„©đŸ·

This has to be one of the best comments I have yet received on my channel! Thank you so much - it makes me really happy to know that my video has helped you and that you enjoyed this gem! Gorges is a fairly new park, if not the newest in NC!

@LukeGeeTravels Rainbow Falls and Turtleback Falls (just a short trail away from Rainbow Falls) were well worth the hike. I was amazed at how many people were climbing up and sliding down Turtleback Falls considering the huge signs with warnings and multiple deaths, but they were indeed dropping down into the falls not knowing what lies beneath.
Yes, the campground is new! At the visitor's center they had great displays about the geology, but they also had a video (don't know if you had the time to do this) about how the park exists because locals fought it being flooded for a dam. I'm a huge advocate for renewable energy, but also for protecting natural areas, so this resonated with me. Glad it's there for all to enjoy!
Thanks again for the video. If it wasn't for you standing out in the rain, I wouldn't have even known about the park! Happy travels! (I just followed you on Ig!)

@@stephanieispink4theplanet427 people will always be people, not abiding by laws and ruining for everyone elseâ˜č That day was super rainy, I’ve never experienced so much rain in a day which made it quite an adventure! Next time you are in the area you can head over to see whitewater falls and over to SC to check out Table Rock State Park!

Highlands is in a rainforest, but in the summer has an abundance of sunshine early in the day with afternoon showers. It's very lush and green.
