    I already included this game in the Rodman vs Shaq documentary, and LamarMatic already did a great job highlighting Rodman's defense in this game, but I wanted to make a separate video that focused purely on Rodman's defense on Shaq during Game 1 of the 96 ECF.
    After abusing Longley and Wennington, Shaq only scored 2 points when Rodman switched on him, then padded his stats in the 4th quarter when they got blown out

    People don't realize Rodman's work ethic. He put enormous effort in in the gym and was insanely strong for his size. He was also obsessive about studying video, learning every opponents tendencies and how they impacted everything from backing down in the post to the general trajectory of their misses. The intelligence clearly displayed in his approach to the game is vastly underrated. And that's not even factoring in the psychological games he'd play against opponents either.

      The pschological games he played against opponents is kind of forgotten today, but he was among the greatest to ever do it and it had huge payoffs for his team. When I think back to his time with Chicago and the playoff and championship series, one of the strongest memories is Rodman getting into the heads of their opponents. He should of gotten the MVP in the series against Utah, the biggest story going at the time was Dennis mentally crushing them. Even more impressive was how he did it, not through trash talking and bullying or cheap shit, but through all out defensive ability while staying calm and collected.

      LilPrince Killa Of those you mentioned, I believe Jordan and Pippen were the best pure athletes, but Lebron probably has more athletic ability than anyone who's ever been his size or larger. Jordan was just as athletic if not more than Lebron however, people compare Kobe to Jordan most often but really Jordan was actually much more impressive physically than Kobe ever was. They just had a similar approach to the game and Kobe was a little better at shooting.

    • @TheMendo123
      @TheMendo123 Před 8 lety +2

      LilPrince Killa Kobe wasn't as gifted athletically as Jordan, Jordan had a vertical leap of 48 inches while Kobe's was only 38. Kobe was a great athlete but he was more skill and will than anything, not a freak of nature like Lebron, or Jodan. I think you're underrating Lebron as an athlete as well, he's just as big actually heavier now than KG ever was and he's far more acrobatic and explosive. Take Lebron's speed and explosiveness and apply it to any position, even a point guard with that level athleticism would be impressive much less a 6'8" guy that's 260 plus.

Kobe was very important too, but Kobe is also a big reason they lost the 2004 finals, so he wasn’t all helpful. And the 1995 loss wasn’t Shaq’s fault he put up amazing numbers it’s just the Rockets got hot and took advantage of the Magic’s relative playoff inexperience (outside of Horace Grant who didn’t play that well nonetheless). 1998 and 1999 are not fair cause Shaq was dealing with weight and injury problems, and also he didn’t even play that bad considering.

    Despite being an oddball. Rodman was my favorite player. I tried playing just like him in high school in the 90s.
    They would put me with players 6 inches taller than me.

      yeah, Hiroshi Morishige was supposed to be Shaq, It's a shame that the Author ended the series before we got to see their fights though.

    Rodman is the definition of a guy that is all heart and never complains even the fact he's sick and this guy could guard all 5 positions. I would love if NBA went back to this kind of era where physicality is the heart of the game unlike today's soft ass crybabies and even a drama queen(well not mentioning any names but we all know who this is).

    I noticed that when Longley and Wennington were on Shaq there was little to no help D whilst with Rodman, Pip/Harper/Toni/MJ were immediately doubling on the catch or staying within reach. The few times they didn't, Shaq was either able to score or was getting the same looks as he did with the regular centers and not just making it.

      Rodman defended him single handedly at times too he made Shaq work harder to get position in the low post, in the Finals against the Rockets Dream did pretty much the same thing.

    Rodman goes down as the the most valuable rebounder and defender in history. He could guard 1-5 and snatch 20 rpg, even at only 6’7. What a stud.
