    Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
    As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

    Talking about a subject based on sound research with an honest intention to cover the facts in an even-handed way and without omitting information to skew to a bias, is surely an approach that no one should criticise. Also, presenting that topic with passion and humour and touching upon the human cost or sharing lesser known poignant details is something that I really appreciate in your videos.

    First time viewer here! I recently tested my DNA and have been researching my family tree. Found out my maternal great grandmother was half Scottish. Also a great great grandmother on my paternal side. Always wondered where my red hair and my interest/love for Scottish history came from! So I've been loving my journey of finding out more about my Scottish heritage and ancestors. But I often ask myself the exact question of should I as a black woman talk about my new found Scottish history. Learning more about myself and where I come from is so exciting but I keep most of what I find to myself because of the responses I get, like weird looks, they don't seem too interested, or they ask "Are you sure?" almost like I'm making it up lol. It's funny at times but also a little discouraging. So this video was definitely helpful and looking forward to checking out more of your channel!

      Hmm Respect…
      Respect is a complex issue, and lies at the heart of every movement for equality or against abuse. The primary struggle against racism, misogyny, and genocide are all directly related to the limited number of people who have taken the time to understand respect worldwide. Without respect, real love is not possible, and neither is a healthy culture or society.
      One way to understand Respect is having Self Respect or in other words Honoring thyself.
      In the words of Rob Roy “ Every man with Honor is a King but not every King has Honor.” Honor is something no one can give and No One can take away..
      So what I’m saying here.. is you’ll have to look inward to find out what Respect is.

The fact im alive here today shows he was a bright lad, not only do the strong survive, so do the smart. Theres ALOT of MacKenzies out there like the ones in castle leod who im vaguely related too. I consider myself Canadian, as I was born, raised, and still live here - but I'm Canadian only 'by accident'' and Scottish 'once removed.' Both my Grandfathers immigrated here from Scotland for work reasons, my Paternal Grandmother's father did as well, and my maternal Grandmother's family immigrated here from Finland. I've never been to Scotland (yet) but have a love for the country that's been passed down to me all my life and I do get nostalgic when I hear bagpipes (Grandpa played them). I envy our native people's here in Canada because they have feet on their native lands. There is no question that humans can be, and have been, incredibly cruel to each other for the stupidest of reasons such as skin color, belief systems, and of course greed. None of it is, or has ever been, justified in my mind. In one way or another, many of us have been 'displaced' over time from our original homelands. You sir, are the real deal, regardless of the color of your skin, and I look forward to the day when every color of homo sapien is considered simply 'homo sapien" wherever they live! This is one of my favourite takedowns of all time. 😂 I only found your channel last week, and my first thought was how much I love your dreads and dress sense haha. Nationality and identity is so complex! I mean, Australia, where I live, is so multicultural that it’s impossible to pin down ‘the thing’ that makes someone Australian. Why would it be any different in any other country, for any other person, no matter how they appear on the outside. Also, most of the historians who have researched our indigenous history are not of the heritage that history is about. So isn’t that just as problematic, according to this ignoramus’ so-called logic?
    Although you’ve just shown that you’re eminently well equipped to deal with these trolls, I’m sorry that they rear their ugly irrelevant heads in your direction. Carry on, sir!

    • @Saffron-sugar
      @Saffron-sugar Před rokem +2

      @Marcus you have a point, but you’re not correct about the history of Australia or North America or South America, for that matter. Those continents WERE very homogenous too. They were taken over by people of different ethnicities. Now white people in Australia, and the United States consider it “their country” but the actual natives certainly don’t. You’ve obviously not heard much of a native perspective.
      If Sweden was taken over by another country, and all Swedish were subjugated, I don’t think you would be happy with that either.
      Most of Scandinavia is pretty homogenous, much of the UK is not. Some is.
      As a Britt myself, who is also biracial, I can tell you that when you have one parent who is native to the land, and one who is another colour, but also raised there, you still feel very much a product of the land you are raised and educated in and the language and culture you know. Your skin pigmentation plays a very small role.
      I am British.
      I have even met biracial Scandinavians, who feel the same. And I believe we can talk about our homes just as well as anyone.
      The most disgusting part is the pure hatred of different colour skin. For example, if somebody is part Scottish, and then they have a parent who is from another country, but white, the child will not have people telling them they are “not Scottish“ because they’re not obsessed with everyone being deeply inbred, they’re just racist

I was born here from an Algerian father & a Scottish Mother & adopted by a white Scots family in 1972 I see myself as a genuine Scot it is all I know. To be Scottish encompasses many different things that can include but is not limited to DNA. To me at least it devalues the meaning of being Scottish if you can just arrive here & then claim to be a Scot. Over time people who do settle here will have many if not all the traits other Scots have & resonate with & then they can have a claim to be Scottish. No one thing can determine your Scottishness so a single thing like skin colour cannot on its own stop or make you Scottish.

      You are definitely Scottish mate as is the presenter of the channel. Never let anyone take your cultural heritage away from you! Race politics was invented to divide us as they want us to see ourselves as ‘white’ or ‘black’ first before Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Northern, whatever as it breaks solidarity amongst folk.

    • @harrypmay
      @harrypmay Před 3 lety +3

      @Tigerman writer no mate, I know a lot of black people see themselves as Black British but race politics predates the Windrush generations and even Pax Britannica. It begins in the Carribbean at the outset of English/British colonialism when Irish indentured servants were sent there to work alongside African slaves. The Irish and Africans joined forces a few times and rebelled against the English colonialists. Obviously sharing the same oppressor will do that so the English had to come up with a way to divide them and thus race politics were born. Only after these rebellions do you start to see the idea of a ‘white’ race and its used purely to make oppressed white people think they’re better off being oppressed than uniting with their fellow oppressed man (who’s apparently stealing their job and all that racist tripe the media vomit out.) Emma Dabiri’s latest book touches on it so maybe give it a read if you think I’m chatting guff. Also, the reason a lot of black people see themselves as Black first and foremost is down to racist arseholes othering them not because they think being Black is better, or more important, than being British. If it wasn’t for Enoch Powell, NF, and the rest, these people would see themselves as British Jamaican etc. and that would be the end of. Instead, just as they did all those years ago in the Carribbean, the British establishment baited poor white people into thinking black people were their enemies (as opposes to them.) As a result, regardless of whether you were from the St Lucia or Nigeria you were always ‘Black’ first so black people stucked together and thus you get the ‘Black British’ which is borne out of the racist reception they got when they arrived (and still do for the most part.) Putting people into categories of ‘black’ and ‘white’ is simple divide and conquer and it’s very obvious if you think about it. Anyway, my point was whoever you are, wherever you are, the place you call home is what you are. If you’re privileged enough to have foreign heritage then it’s a bonus but you’ll never stop being Scottish, Welsh, Irish, whatever first and foremost. Unless, of course, you don’t identify as such, which is fine too. Personally, I consider myself Lancashire Irish which isn’t even an ethnic identity last time I checked but it sums up me and my family’s past and present up quite well. Bruce might see himself as Scottish Ghanaian, or perhaps even Ghanaian Scottish. Notice how none of these identities indicate race though? You can presume if someone is Scottish Ghanaian they will probably be mixed race on account of Ghana being in West Africa but does the race even matter when it comes to nationality? Not at all, so why do we have to point it out? Who wants us to point it out? Those are the questions you have to ask yourself and, in my opinion, it is just an extension of the age old British imperial tactic of divide and conquer. Besides, what actual the fuck is British anyway? Technically speaking, the Britons are the Welsh but when someone says British they mean English, don’t they? But they don’t mean a Geordie, or a Scouser, or even a Midlander. When they say British they’re talking about the people they see on TV who, more often than not, comes from the Home Counties and had what’s known as an elite upbringing. Which is to say boarding schools and a ticket to Oxbridge. ‘British’ is a fantasy concocted by colonialists and it’s a dying identity. By the end of the decade Scottish and Welsh people won’t think of themselves as British, they barely do now. Nobody wants to be tarnished with the toxic British exceptionalist attitude anymore.

    • @harrypmay
      @harrypmay Před 3 lety +2

      @Tigerman writer long story short, race politics is not ‘identity politics’ and began in the 1600s as a result of colonialism. If black people see themselves as black first and foremost it is because of racists not allowing them to simply be ‘British’ or ‘American’ or whatever. I don’t see myself as ‘white’ anything, personally, as I’ve got very little in common with most Europeans.
