This week I show you how I built this custom floating bed and headboard. This is one my favorite DIY projects and I am so amazed by the end result. I added LEDs to make the floating effect even cooler! The bedroom makeover is really coming together, and we only have a few more projects left before the room is complete! - Jak na to + styl
It's cool that you tackle this project even though you are without proper place to work...like us normals.
Great build bud, very impressive. Only thing I will say is PLEASE stop with the clapping.
Thank you! And yes, all my future videos have no clapping haha!
Damn. The clapping was my favorite part.
True
Clap away dude!
Agreed. No clapping.
"It looks big but not too big."🤦 Great line for a bedroom🤣🤣
Looks great, love what you did with the room. One minor suggestion I would make is adding black fluted wooden panels on the wall behind your bed.
Good idea! That would look very cool!
I made this bed frame! It turned out so amazing! It definitely had some challenges... But thank you so much for the inspiration and tutorial!
That’s awesome! Thank you for the comment. I love hearing stories like these! It makes me happy that others out there are able to use my videos to build their own DIY projects!
Pictures?
Love it. Sending to my handyman (son) so he can make it happen for my daughter.
List the challenges so others can learn???!!!
Wow you are very talented and I love how you take the time to make sure everything looks just so!!!
Can't wait to see the side drawers. Well done!!!
Thank you, really appreciate the kind words! Side drawer video is up! Hope you enjoy!
Great job- I made my first platform bed in 1978- wish I had CZcams back in the day - it would have made my life a lot easier. Excellent job it looks great.
Thank you! You were ahead of your time haha!
The design and execution are flawless. You are an excellent carpenter.
Thank you very much!
I second that
Thanks! I built this bed over the weekend. It turned out great. :)
That’s awesome! Hope you get good use out of it!
Great job. I like the project, as a carpenter. You definitely did a good job.
Thank you, appreciate it!
The 3-side screwing mode gave more security to the center of the bed❤❤❤
This bed is tremendous. Love it.
Thank you, really appreciate it!
Love the video. My daughter watched your video and now she wants me to build one for her.
Thank you and that's awesome! Good luck with the build!
I clap too . Keep doing you !
Guess I’m not the only one haha! Thanks!
The end product looked great. The underbed lighting certainly helped add the visual effect of it floating.
Personally I would have rounded the corners to stop you stabbing your self in the future.
Thank you so much! And that's a great idea! So for there have been no injuries haha!
How do u round the corners
@@laughtillithurts4253 You can use a jigsaw if it's a large cut or some low grit sandpaper
I really enjoyed your build. Your instructions were on point. Thank you sir.
Awesome, thank you!
I came to find a way to build myself one of these beds and learnt that I need to get a man who can build things. This whole process is so cool and a lot of work but the end result mindblowing.✌🏽❤️💯
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Great video! I’m planning on making a similar one this week with one minor change…lowering the 2x2’s by 1-3/4 and not using the 3 top 2x4’s.
Thank you and that’s awesome! Good luck with the build!
Is your purpose for lowering to give the mattress more of a place to fall into? If so, I was thinking the same
The clapping is hilarious. Nice work!
Glad you found the hilarity in it! Thank you!
This is really nice love the finish you did a wonderful job on this one
Thank you, really appreciate the kind words!
That one you made what size mattress was it for
Would love to get the measurements I would love to do that as a present for the wife
This is for a queen size bed and all the dimensions are in the description!
Fantastic job mate love ❣you're skills !just keep on doing what you're doing ,sooo talented .Much love &Respect 💯💞🇧🇿🇧🇿
Thank you so much 😀
moving into my house im abut to have a daughter! this idea omg thank you !!! best gift for my wife to come back home to !!!
That sounds like a great idea! Congrats!
Tip, don't screw your slats you want them to be able to give for more comfort...make spacers between them and anchor them
Thanks for the tip!
Can u elaborate on making spacers in between the slats and anchor them in?
Dude, you're an artist!!!! Keep up the good work
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it!
For DYI and workshop enthusiasts where saws and drills roaring all the time, few claps should be totally fine.
I was just wondering how this design could be turned into less permanently nailed build, an assembled one that can be moved easily. Great content!
Haha, very true about the claps 😂 I think the 2 boxes would need to be permanently built but they could be more easily separated and then the headboard could be separate so it’s more easily transported
Really like the bed design! Great job!
Thank you so much!
really like the Sensor lighting idea you installed, great idea for when you get up at night an don't want to wake anyone up
My thoughts exactly! It really comes in handy!
First time watching you work brother. Outstanding work quality and a job well done. Leave the clapping in. Really like the 'floating bed' concept.
Thank you so much! Glad you found me, welcome! And yes the clapping is quite controversial haha!
Wonderful job brother!! That came out spectacular! Keep up the great content and I look forward to you’re future videos! Also the floating bedside tables was a perfect touch!
Thank you man! Really appreciate the feedback and kind words!
How many board feet of lumber was used?
@@charlesmueller2160 I bought 6 8' 2x8s
I like that you have a normal set-up like the average person, it's more relatable and the clapping was funny mate, didn't mind at all.
Haha thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video… and the clapping lol
So beautiful, well done x
I love this and might even try it myself one day!👌🏾
Thank you, please give it a try!
@@GoldenKeyDesign I will soon, once I buy my place. Have a blessed day 😉🙏🏾
I enjoyed your video. I never thought of using the motion sensor on the led lights. Pure genius.
As a contractor I can find a hundred things I would change on every build video. In this case there are only 2.
1. A mistake I made in a bed build is you should have recessed the slats approximately 3/4" and placed 1/4" luan, MDF, Ply (no matter) or the mattress will begin to fail and you will feel every slat.
2. The top trim boards should be under sized by 1/2" to 3/4" in length and width.
These two things force the mattress down 1/2" which gives a neater appearance in the corners and prevents the mattress from shifting.
Thank you for the thoughtful response and appreciate the feedback!
The final look was awesome!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
They are all jealous of your clapping skills. 👏👏👏👍 His Grandma was in the old Clapper commercials, he learned from the best.🙃
How’d you know 😂 She was the best the world has ever seen
I built one similar, my wife is short and she complained about the height and the exposed edge. I cut it down to 3 inch base and a added boxs springs . Good job keep going I like it
Nice, that's a great solution! And thank you!
Just a tip; when ripping boards on a table saw, keep the bigger piece against the guide. You had it switched in the beginning. It can be a safety hazard.
Yeah good tip! My small contractors saw doesn't have much width so I had to do it the other way round but I try be careful when I need to do it
Did it at the end as well. A lot more stable by having the larger stock between the fence and blade.
Your bed LOOKS WONDERFUL TO ME 😅😅😅😅❤❤❤I love
Thank you!!
Stop clapping 👏😂😂
For the headboard I found the standard Ghost Wood boards sold at Home Depot in-store. They’re like $13-21 a Board depending on size. Worth it. I also used pocket holes to hold everything together, including the 2x4 top edging. Other than that, I followed your plans and it turned out great. Made my wife happy. Those lights work great too. Bought a second set for beneath our kitchen cabinets. Total project cost was right around $345 in supplies. Free labor…me.
I had seen another more complex video with hardware. But yours was so fantastic and simple to move around the work at the end man it was top 👍
I'm following you and I gave 👍 because you deserve everything
I'm following you and I gave 👍 because you deserve everything
Man I have no words; you were EVERYTHING. Lighting up the room; to the blankets, roller and pillows 💯
You can hardly see the huge one at the edge of the bed ; as the varnish disappears😅😅😅❤❤❤
Well done!! The house is coming together
It really is! Almost done with the whole first floor!
Very nice, really good idea I never saw a floating bed, maybe if the wooden wall you mounted on the side of the head, you would make a space of 10 cm with lighting, the feeling of the floating bed was stronger.
Question: Have you checked if two people are sitting right at the end of the bed, the bed balanced?
Nice job .
Good idea for the lighting. And yes, the bed can support multiple people without any issues. I used 6" lag screws to secure it to the wall so it is plenty strong
Was not a fan of all the claps personally to be honest, but the rest of your work was exceptional and has inspired me to build one, it looks very slick and different
was just going to type the same - way too many claps :D
Everyone has to have some authenticity. Everyone snapping their fingers. The clapping is his way of uniqueness. Enjoy the video and keep it pushing. Dang someone always complaining.
@@odalysh23 hardly a complaint, Get a grip.
If I said get a grip every few seconds, would you actually get a grip or would you be offended by the fact that I told you to get a grip every few seconds because you need to get a grip LOL.
You see, it is easy to over use something to the point it becomes annoyingly and unnecessary
Duuuude incredible video!! I'll be watching your channel from now on. Thanks bro!
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
You clapped your way to a million views bru😎👏🏼 we learn and grow if we dare to fail✌🏼❤️
Thanks 😁
Well done, really nice build.
The only annoying part is the clapping at the end of every clip.
Thank you! And agreed haha! Trying to cut down on it. It is a really bad habit lol
Wow that was pretty amazing. The clapping was a bit annoying and funny lol. But good job on your build! Subbed
Thank you! I know the clapping is a bit much so I have limited it in my other videos haha! Thanks for the subscription!
thanks for all your help bed came out great!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😁
Love how it turned out. Great job! Now l need one...
Thank you! You can build one!
Love the Claps. Great bed. Now let's see how my project turns out for my daughter. What are the dimensions of that bedroom? Thank you for the video. !Happy 2023!
Thank you! You are in the minority for loving the claps haha! This bedroom is 10’ by 12’. Hope that helps and good luck with the build!
Lol I’m not opposed to the claps either don’t know what the big deal was
This is very nice and love the look. Would you share your dimensions and wood lengths of this build?
Thank you! I will list all the dimensions in the description. Let me know if you need any other info!
@@GoldenKeyDesign Thank you soo much. Is this build a king or Queen size bed?
@@GoldenKeyDesign hey what would dimensions be for the cuts for a king size?
@@Spogzzz queen
I used to use the one extension cord method . So many times I’d switch tools and have the disappointment of not remembering to plug it in 😅
Very well done. Looks great.
Thank you very much!
Amazing build! I was wondering if the measurements would be different for a Full Size Bed?
So this is for a queen and a full is 6" narrower and 5" shorter. Therefore I would take my dimensions in the description and subtract those measurements from the box sizes. Hope that helps!
Nice design and video but without the dimensions it is not very helpful, especially given the issues around balance/stability. Can you please post the dimensions? Thanks! Would this bed work in a situation where you CANNOT secure the bed into the wall, like an apartment?
Thank you! I will list all the dimensions in the description. Let me know if you need any other info!
Also, I think it would still work in a situation that you cannot secure it to the wall but it would be slightly less stable. But, as long as you are aware, I think you could avoid having any issues. Just probably shouldn't jump on it haha
@@GoldenKeyDesign Thank you very much!
Really cool build!! Great job, man!!
Thank you, really appreciate it!
From South Africa Shout Out🔥🔥Hope You Go Big
Thanks for the support!
how much weight can this hold if you have a rough guess i have 2 friends who are giants and weigh around 260lbs would they be able to sit on this bed with people? or would it be a thing where i would have to politely ask them not to sit on my bed?
I have had a variety of people sleep on the bed with no issues. The most amount of weight in total was probably around 400lbs. I can’t guarantee that it would hold 520lbs but I think it would fair just fine
I came across your channel. I love your content but that clapping transition is painful on my ears as I listen with buds in.
I know, I’m trying to limit the clapping moving forward! Thanks for the feedback
Same here..
Beautiful, you're very gifted.
Thank you!
Well done! Looks cool!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
STOP. FUKING. CLAPPING.
I know, I know...
Working on it!
I loved this idea. I finished mine over the weekend
Awesome! It’s very cool to see people actually replicating the build on their own!
What did you pay for materials roughly?
@@dstewart7470 about $300 in materials but this was a year ago and since then lumber prices have come down a lot
@@GoldenKeyDesign Appreciate the replies, brother
Good video qaulity build I actually like the clapping that could be your new signature as your channel grows( let's get started 👏)
Someone actually gets the idea 😅 That was the plan haha, to make it a catch phrase or something of the like but it got a pretty bad reception lol! Maybe I’ll try to bring it back…
Man that is really nice. I may try this to surprise my wife, thank you sir.
Thank you and go for it!
This is a nice build!!!
My hat off to you. Excellent work!
Thank you, really appreciate it!
the claps are killin me. but great video man, very educational and to the point.
I appreciate it man! I don’t clap in any of my other videos haha
W for putting dimensions in desc
man you are meticulously good!!
Thank you, appreciate it man!
This is a great tutorial. My daughter and I are going to attempt to duplicate for a full size mattress. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! And good luck with the project!
Dude what an idea!! Going to want to try this one day
Thanks! Got for it!!
I suggest you to cover the gaps between the small and the big box in order to avoid dust and dirth stuffs!!
Good idea!
Those claps are mad loud 😂. Great video. Planning to follow your video for my own bed.
Thanks in advance!!!🎉
😂 Thanks! Good luck with the build!!
I made one like that in '82 and still use it however I discovered the " Torsion Box " by Ian Kirby, Fine Woodworking, '82. Its basically a box consisting of a " honeycomb " type network of 1/4 " plywood covered by two sheets of 1/4 " plywood. It's like an airplane wing, very light and very resistant to twisting ( torsion ). It's important to rip all the pieces ( sides and " honey comb " at the same width without changing the fence. I made one for my table saw runoff table 20 yrs ago and it's still doing great. Nice job on yours though.
Yeah, I have built many torsion boxes before. For this bed it wasn't needed as the structure was already strong enough and there won't be much twisting forces applied to it. Thanks for watching!
@@GoldenKeyDesign I was referring more to the benefit of being lightweight.
Wow, super sturdy and quality, Love the 👏 LOL
For screw holes you can mix glue and the dust from your saw to fill it in. Alot cheaper then filler or bondo
Good tip! I’ve used that method before but I found that it doesn’t work well for such large holes, especially if it’s to be painted. I prefer using bondo in this instance since it dries faster and you can sand it down to a perfectly smooth finish
Beautiful!
Thank you 🙏
Awesome, work. I might try something like that one of these days.
Thank you! Go for it!
Great job I used this to make a Floating bed it cam out Spectacular!! One *Note, your Inner/ outer dimensions for your cap are set for a 2x6, however you made the decision to go 2x4 won’t get a 45 degree cut with the given dimensions it’s not hard to figure out just watch your cuts! Amazing video Thank you!
Thank you! That's awesome that you were able to make it yourself! I actually did, however, list the dimensions for the top cap using 2x4s but I had it as 4" instead of the nominal width of 3.5" wide. I updated the outer dimensions to reflect this. Thanks for the catch!
Mad skills , great job dude!
Thanks man, appreciate it 👊
Best bed you got man, I got the same similar bed lol 15 yrs ago my uncle did it for my birthday gift
And all the drowers for clothes are in the walls
Your video helped me a lot. I really appreciate it.
Thank you, glad you found it helpful!
Awesome work! It made me consider building one. Next video, maybe edit out the "Let's get to it 👏" 😅. But seriously, congrats, it is a very minimalistic and modern bed and I love it.
Thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words! And yes, I edited out most of the “let’s get to it” from my other videos haha
I wish I could afford a shed and some nice power tools to be able to do these projects lol great work!
Thank you! Keep that dream alive and I'm sure one day it will happen!
Super nice. Hope your channel grows. Cheers from 🇧🇷!
Thanks, I really appreciate it! I hope it grows too haha!
This is criminality.. Wow. Awesome and lovely. Good work brother
Thank you so much! Really means a lot 👊 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Excellent design, man! Worked for me. :-). I dropped the slat rails 1/2" and put a 1/4" piece of plywood on the slats, under the mattress, so you can't see the floor at the edge of the mattress. Oh, and stained to match the rest of the exposed wood.
Thank you and nice job! I would drill some holes in the 1/4" plywood for ventilation of the mattress. The slats are meant to allow the mattress to breathe so some holes in the plywood would help with that.
@@GoldenKeyDesign Brilliant -- I had not considered that. Much thanks.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching
4:05 you could use beam hanger too🙂
And those claps in my headphone! 😵
Good point! I thought about it but thought the screws were plenty strong
Best video. Simple. Clean. To the point. Have you done a king size frame?
Thank you! I haven’t done a king size but all the dimensions are in the description. You can adjust the measurements to fit a king bed. Hope that helps 😁
Nice skills, sweet build!
Thank you, appreciate it!
Wow this looks so rich
Thank you!
Pretty decent build, I like the wall mounted night stands too... as far as the clapping 👏??? Umm yeah, idk what that's for. Lol
Great idea and realisation
Thank you so much!
I kinda like the clapping dude !! 😊
You are one of only a few 😂 Thank you!!
@GoldenKeyDesign
