      His death made me kinda sad tho.
      It’s kind of like cap in endgame, he faced thanos’s army by himself, standing his ground against impossible odds but ready to fight to the death.
      This big guy here, realizing he will die, did not cry, did not weep, nor moan, he stood his ground with no help, gave a battle cry before swinging his shovel, and took as many as he could.
      His strength was incredible, but even the strongest shall perish.
      He was literally at that moment, fighting all by himself surrounded by the monsters while his friends were dying as his leader was getting to the detonator, but he still stood his ground no matter what, even after losing that arm.
      Just incredible tbh, even for a fictional character

    Honestly, years later and this scene still gives me chills. The hopelessness setting in as the music swells and you realise that they’re never getting out of there, and that there is no point in fighting anymore. I think that’s why 1:40 hurts and changes the tone of the scene immediately and drastically. In their minds, as the light dims and the fires slowly go out one by one until the lieutenant’s flare is the only light left, that there IS no hope, there is no glorious death for them (in their minds), just death. That’s why, as soon as the flare dies, he closes his eyes and activates the bomb.
    This scene merged horror and action so beautifully, and not just the horror of the monsters, but of how it will break you mentally when you’re backed into a corner with no hope. The weak and the strong all died in the end, weather by their own hand, or by the hands of the monsters.

    • @Jordan-ok4yb
      @Jordan-ok4yb Před 2 lety +52

      Also I love how it doesn’t show the singular bomb actually exploding, but rather the true bombs to actually wipe out the monsters, symbolising that the lieutenant and his men were the ones who truly eradicated the monsters, those planes could never have dropped those bombs if it weren’t for their sacrifice. Idk if I explained that right but damn, there’s so many layers to this short film, it’s awesome

Just an endless horde of monsters trying to eat you, slowly getting closer and closer and all you can really do is fight for every second, slowly, one by one, watching your friends run out of bullets, lose their weapons and having to resort to hand to hand combat and one by one yall are being picked off, either by being eaten alive or some lucky enough to take their own life. And even as the last of you fall, there hasn't even been a dent in the numbers of these fucking things! Truly truly terifying! Brave men all around!

The Civil war in Russia ended only in 1923 after the total defeat of the white army in Siberia and far east region. The Emperor was executed in July 1918 in my hometown Yekaterinburg together with all of his family, yet that didn't mean that all of his supporters immediately surrendered. The bloodshed continued and went to the east Siberia regions and further to the east. So there is no mismatch in my suggestion. Believe me, I know the history of my country)
