  • In this video I am doing up the spare bedroom from start to finish. Painting wallpapering the walls and building a bed from scratch. As always I'm finding the most cost-effective ways to achieve a really nice look. And with this room I really do feel we achieved this we even go as far as laying the carpet ourselves.
Unfortunately towards the end I had an accident on the tow path when getting off my boat. Due to the tow path dropping away suddenly I dislocated my ankle. Resulting in me not be able to complete my video the way I wanted to.
Thanks for watching please like share and subscribe and I look forward to any comments.
Particularly what your views are on the canal and rivers round Britton.

I've only just come across your channel today. 19/12/2023. To dislocate your ankle both the fibula and tibia must also be broken. This happened to me and Incidentally, I also broke my heal bone. It took a year for the swelling to subside but the initial 6 weeks of non weight bearing was soo incredibly tedious to live through I truly feel for you. 10 years later and I don't have 100% movement in my ankle. You are a brave man to experience a similar injury and display a great outlook on life and your future. All the very best for those difficult times ahead. I have naturally subbed/liked your channel. 👍

Thank you very much a truly lovely message.
You're absolutely right in 99% of cases. People break bones doing this type of injury or that is what my specialist has told me. I used to do a lot of martial arts and I think it's thanks to this that I have incredibly flexible joints. I got away with a chip on one side of the bone but I have a torn ligaments all the way around. And I've been told if I get 80% movement back. I'll be very lucky.

I had to laugh when your dog came in to help you with the bedframe. They're always on hand to give advice and offer their suggestions when any building work is taking place 😂

He really does love to get involved if he's not right in front of me stopping me from doing things. He sits on my legs if I'm on the floor.

I'm surprised by the CRT. I'm 64 and when I tore my cartridge in my knee, not at all CRT's fault, they were awash with offers of help and they got the local guy to ring me and check that all was well. As it was I decided to abandon the boat and go home for a few weeks, but that was after they had offered to get me supplies and all sorts. I have to say though it was at Sawley cut and it is a busy stretch.

That's lovely to hear and what I would expect from a charitable organisation. A little kindness goes a long way. With this happening to me I'm just so pleased that I have people around me because if I was to rely on people that don't know me I would have been in serious trouble. I would love to have the time for myself to volunteer for the canal and River trust so I could be there for other people that may need the help in the future.

Slowly getting their mate. I've been out for the first time to work today and to be honest I am absolutely shattered.

You will have to be careful of weakened ligaments now which take months to heal !

Thanks for the message. I am very aware when I'm doing the lock sound dangerous it is now. Stepping off the lock gate is very treacherous.

Not sure about the support in the bed. If for an adult, the wood is too thin and lacks the number of support cross beams needed.

It's actually very strong. The top of the bed was then finished with 12 mm ply and I'm just over 15 stone and can stand on it as I was when I was decorating with no movement or deflection at all.

You know, of course, while building it, you measured it in inches, then metres, then tested it in stone! Metric is the only way to go and understood by more people everywhere.
