    Watching someone have to manually manipulate the lightning to a single room makes me realize how much work really goes in to a game. Imagine you clock in at 8am and all day you're just tuning and retuning lighting variables for each and every location in the game for a setting not everyone will be able to experience.
    Then imagine this person being told there will be an enhanced edition but everything can be done by toggling a single setting. Crazy how far we've come in two years.

      Actually it's the thing you described - 9.00 you load a single project ( like this room) tweaking it to 21.00 with a constant doubt if its a right setting. The next day is the same, sometimes its a whole stress week on a single stupid scene with tests like in the video. 3D game development is the same as building a Skyscraper on Government money - a very stressful job.

      I can imagine. I'm a modeler and texture artist and occasionally do lighting. Digital artists spend hours upon hours tweaking and perfecting our work. Metro was made by a team who clearly loved their work and had great passion for the project. In my personal work, I'm used to using ray tracing and GI in VRay renders which take a very long time to calculate (two hours for my last project) and that was just for a still image. I never thought we'd get real-time light bounce like this. The quality is going to rival pre-rendered cinematics very soon.

      I believe they stated native 4k 60fps with all RT on aside from reflections. I played some of the game on the PS4 Pro and I just couldn't get used to the weird input delay. It's the only AAA FPS game I've played that had such a bad input delay, hopefully that won't be a problem with the next gen ports. Politics and other factors can inhibit or accelerate progress, but his arguement is that it happens regardless as this is an exponential effect. He wrote a book called "The singularity is near" in 2005 ish, and has another book end of this year called "the singularity is nearer". So if you continue on for many years, that "2000's" feeling will probably return. Again, if his ideas are accurate, looking forward to see his thoughts in his next book. Getting raytracing to run in a performant way does not only depend on the hardware but also more efficient software. Now that global illumination and shadows are being fully Ray Traced, we have to literally retrain ourselves to see this as the correct lighting model. • @MLWJ1993
      @MLWJ1993 Před 3 lety +7

      I just hope the other alternatives are good enough to compete in order to keep pushing each others implementation to be better & better. Although on innovating DLSS, Nvidia did not disappoint even without much competition. 1.0 was pretty "meh" in quality though but they could've just stopped at 1.9 with a good enough. Instead they went ahead with 2.0 & 2.1 and decoupled it from system load to be used wherever the user wants (even low/very low settings).
      It's also definitely not magic, there's a lot of work from Nvidia in AI & every single thing is actually mindblowingly impressive. I'm just glad they decided to push it to consumers as well even if pricing increased not insignificantly as a result.
