A peahen takes her peachicks for a walk...then they all file in beneath her, for a rest and for safety. Taken at the L.A. County Arboretum in May 2010.
I feel like the Peahen gets somewhat overshadowed by the Peacock - Peahens really are magnificent birds in their own right. And the Peachicks are utterly adorable of course!
It is interesting how they nestle beneath Mom. You'd think it would be easier to get in from the side but they make Mom work lifting herself up so they can scoot under. This is precious.
+Anthony Palumbo I wish I did own some! And yes, I have been attacked a number of times. I just chalk it up as them being wild and I try to avoid the ones who attacked me. There are plenty of sweet ones who eat contentedly out of my hand.
+Anthony Palumbo i keep the dominant male separate and out of view of one another. cut the calls down to by more than half and back to the usual dawn and dusk times.

+Anthony Palumbo I might add, I've never been attacked by a peahen or peachicks...just peacocks. The peahens & peachicks are sweet & innocent.

@peacocklover27 You are very welcome!!
It was nice that the mother was not aggressive like the goose! :O
This is the first time I'm seeing a peachick. Never thought about what they looked like. They look like little ostriches with a sparrow coloring..
👌👌👌💜👌👌👌
Thanks! Have a good week!
The average lifeapan of peafowl is 15-20 years, but they can live to be 30.
Had peacocks at one point. They are very loud and obnoxious, not to mention arrogant and very aggressive.
+Anthony Palumbo I guess you have to love their calls and noises like I do! And of course I love their beauty and innocence.

+hhn2002 Interesting!
Peafowls
She is not so much fat as she plumps her feathers up to give the peachicks room to get under her.
