    Having been corresponding with prisoners for over a decade, I’d like to weigh in for a little bit. Prisoners can NOT receive gifts from the outside, so no: “oh, I’m letting my kids make them something” or “I’m gonna send them stuffs”. Not allowed. They’re going digital in most states and even the handwritten letters are being sent to a central point only to be scanned and sent to their tablets.
    Fwiw: writing with prisoners is kinda dying because of the rise of social media and life getting more digital, also: there’s a lot more scamming going on and finding a decent penfriend is nearly impossible compared to 13 years ago when I started writing.

    Hey. So crazy but we have a prison here in South Jersey called Bayside and when the inmates are close to their release dates they can ask to be moved to the farm. The farm has cows (they milk them) and chickens (eggs only) and they move into what is called cabins on the farm and this is their job and life for say the next 6 months. My uncle was a part of this program and my best friend was the Day Shift Sargent C.O. and she had the best personality and really wanted these inmates to use their skills and strength for good. All the officers on the farm were really great men and woman. My uncle said my best friend made them all feel as if they were humans again by treated them all so well and giving them more skills to learn and leave with. Anyway, I wanted to just let you know we have exactly what you said the first 3 minutes into this video. Lol. See, we have many things in common and a lot of the same thoughts. So crazy. Haha. I came across your page for a reason and I truly believe it the more videos I watch. God may have a plan. Lol.

    I'm an older Black man, 62. Never incarcerated, but I feel for those who are. Living in Boston, voracious reader, musician, Harvard grad. Looking for friendship only. The pleasure of getting a nice hand written letter is rare. If you would take the time.

    That sounds like the game word wars! I got on there to play Scrabble and maybe talk to some people.. but it seems more like a game people use to date online.. it is so strange! Back to you! I think it is really cool you want to work in corrections. It takes a special kind of person to be able to do that. If scheduling wasn't an issue, what type of prisoner or facility would you most want to work with?

      Oh man!!! If I could be any job I'd be the case manager. They have so much more to do with inmates and helping them better themselves. Now I would just love to get in to records, reception, maybe intake for the families that come to visit. Anything!

      I think that is super awesome. This is similar but different. My mother-in-law is a social worker and does case management. It is both really hard and really rewarding. Fingers crossed for you that you can achieve your dream of working in corrections someday.

    As a married man, I’ve actually had male inmates (pen pals) ask me if my wife was okay with me writing them. Especially if they’re sex offenders. So, the question may have been sincere. I get that a lot, and I’m not bothered my it. My wife just asks that I remain anonymous for the safety of our family, but other than that, it is a legitimate question they ask.

    Should I write my address down on the mail letter to the prisoner? Because I don't have P, O BOX that I couldn't afford it at all. Thank you if you answer my question :)

    I'm Brazilian and I would like you to answer some questions.. two months ago I sent a letter to a prisoner, I'm in love with her. I would like to know what I say to her, if I ask her on a date, can I put these things in the letter? she said she liked my photo, she's a widow, that's what's on her profile.. but the fact that she receives several letters, right, I'm afraid to ask for a date, she'll accept and deceive me, because there must be several correspondents her. And how do visits work? can they receive visitors? Because here in Brazil the laws are different from there. I liked her, and I even intend to marry her.

    Didn't think inmates would have access to the internet like that sussspious

    • @Digital_Dreaming_
      @Digital_Dreaming_  Před 2 lety +5

      They don't. They pay the site for a year of having their profile up!! I should have mentioned that.
      But almost every inmate I've talked to is getting their own personal tablet within the next 6 months. Means they can make calls, send emails, store online books...etc.

    • @moonlampje79
      @moonlampje79 Před 4 měsíci +1

      That’s because they don’t. Every “internet access” they have is an extremely secure prison system. Yes, most inmates can send/receive email, but only through their designated provider, usually jpay, gtl, corrlinks etc. As for the penpal profiles: they can send a letter to writeaprisoner or have an outside contact put up their profile.
