My intensive 3 month stay at Castle Craig rehab Scotland was a precious gift from God. I committed to giving it 100% It saved my life. Drunk going in. Found out friend had taken life day 1. I was grateful to be there when heard news. Didn't listen to the moaners/gossipers/whiners. Not everything will be to your liking. Embrace that - you need different. The same kept you where you were. Listened. Went out comfort zones. Grew. Gave thanks daily. Challenged my self-pity. Five and a half months sober. Its impossible to relapse by accident after rehab. Think about that. Good luck - give it your all!💯💪

I'm am pleased you found it helpful. How is your son doing? I know for my wife, when I was in rehab, she was relieved.. yet she remained skeptical. I have no doubt that if your son is open, honest, and willing.. he has a strong opportunity to learn how to fund fulfillment in recovery.

Last February, I went to rehab for 2 days at Cedar House in Bloomington, CA. It was big, and for someone who has bad social anxiety, I chicken out and left. Tried outpatient, but still couldn't get sober. After a few months, my case manager and peer support suggested giving rehab a try. I'm 28 and still live with my parents. My mom is also an alcoholic and my Dad is an abusive piece of work. I'm ready to grow up, and I want out of this house. I'm semi looking forward to going to rehab again this month, and part of it is I found a small one that takes 6 women at max so perfect for someone who's socially anxious like me. I'm not going to lie, though. I'm still scared, and I'm not entirely happy about leaving alcohol behind, but I'm tired of that abusive relationship I have with alcohol. I just want to be happy and independent, and I know I can't have that if I don't get sober.
Sorry for my essay. I appreciate you sharing your experience it helps me feel less nervous about this whole decision.

I had the same anxiety when I went! I too used alcohol to medicate my depression, anxiety, and PTSD.. Congratulations on going to rehab, that is a monumental deal. My divorce from alcohol was brutal and I thought I couldn't live without her! I was broken by the fact that I could never drink again..However, when I learned all the ways my life and the way I handle life is without it..well, it became clear to me that my I insanity in drunkenness was a temporary fix that left permanent scars..literally and figuratively. I wish you the best in rehab, put your car (you) in the shop and focus on you..that's all you have to do my friend. If you need anything that I can help with don't hesitate to reach out.

Congratulations on "Getting your car in the shop!" That's how I like to think of rehab. You go for one thing, but you have the opportunity to the whole thing looked at! I also had my son as my primary motive to go to rehab (of course secondary to losing my Army career, losing my wife, and oh yeah.. losing my life). You can definitely survive it without a drink ..but do yourself a favor, do the work, be present, focus on getting sober for you, go to meetings, share your experiences, and learn how to live sober after you leave...If you need anything while you're there, reach out to those around you and if you find yourself doubtful... remember your son needs a whole and present father, and you deserve the opportunity for self love.

Meditation as well as knowing what to do when your bored takes practice. The more you practice New and positive things will make those hard times that much easier to handle..and to handle them by facing them instead of allowing the drink or drug determine the outcome. Let me know if there's anything that I can do.

Isn’t that the key? Why is a person drinking why are they drugging this bull crap that is a disease makes me wanna puke. I was drinking too much alcohol I did no disease I did it about the alcohol I drank the alcohol it was my poor choices on my fault rehab I’m sure it has its place but generally speaking I give rehab about a D+.

You misspoke when you said your BAC was 2.34 and not .234 isn't possible. You would be dead before getting remotely close to that level. Not meant to bust your chops but merely as a clarification. I do agree that after you stop it's imperative to find a way to fill the void that was created when you quit. I'm 74 years old and stopped drinking eight years ago. This was after drinking for fifty years with the last thirty-five of those years drinking excessively every day
I've used AA more as a conduit to sobriety rather than a means to an end. For example that alcoholism is a discease and not an addiction
This is merely a no fault excuse for bad choices. Besides I don't know of any discease that can be overcome by soley using your force of will. I do believe that talking about a problem may not solve it but it makes it easier to cope with. Which AA allows you to do.

for me the hardest thing is the insomnia. I didn't go to rehab and i never drank alcohol from the morning or afternoon, just at night. It's been around 10 days, and my sleep is non-existent, waking up every hour and then unable to fall back asleep. Going to work feeling like a ghost, going to uni with brain fog and a headache. No matter how tired i am, i still can't get a restfull sleep, and nothing i tried is helping. I guess it takes longer time to pass to normalize.

We don't know each other, but we share this common bond.. It's absolutely normal to be terrified of this sort of change. For me, I was petrified of breaking my life with my drunk.. Hell, that bottle was my identity and my escape, not to mention my adversary at the same time. If you go into it ready to find ways to take on your life in an entirely different way then you will find that it's an opportunity for you to break free of the distractions of all the things that prevent you from discovering YOU! Life indeed will always bring obstacles and challenges..(For me) without the reliance and active addiction to alcohol, I am able to either go straight through my obstacles or, find the path of least resistance. Fulfillment is self defined: I can't say that your world will improve dramatically. However, I can say that the waves will not erode your foundation. Does that make any sense? Same goes for yourself or anyone else reading; I am here for you and anyone who is suffering from addiction or just life in general, I don't have all the answers.. but I have had most of the experiences. @1Sober2Another  Před 2 lety +3

That was a question I had when I went to rehab also! I said..."Who's gonna take care of my family?"... "Who's gonna Take care of my Soldiers?"..."Who's gonna head up the mission?"... and all of these other reasons why It wasn't the right time yet! My wife said, "I've always taken care of myself and Noah when you were drink and gone anyway...we need dad back, and I need my husband"...she said. My boss told me..."Your team needs you at 100%, and the mission will go on!".. Your question is not stupid Louis, but it's time to worry about you..They will be alright, and they will.be even better with you when you are healthy, clear, and present..

Went to rehab facility twice. First, did detox and left after 5 days. Second, 28 days. Very structured . 7 in the morning to 8 at night most days. Never left facility......no private phone calls first 8 days. Families could visit certain time on certain weekends. AA meetings on site (2-3 a day) along with group and individual counselor time. Hated it at first. Tried to jail break as we say......and yes , we all went in drunk as well. .22 here! Once you accept that you are there with folks in same circumstance and it is what it is, and you start feeling better, it gets more comfortable. It saved my bacon, I'm pretty sure. Friends now tell me they were pretty worried about me then. I don't ever want to go back....one of my motivations to maintain sobriety. I' m too old to have a roommate :) Like my freedom too much as well . Keep on
