  • wellllllll here i go again! in 2021 i almost lost this plant completely to root rot, and now my beloved micans has almost been taken out by spidermites (womp womp). at this point i'm not surprised and am even kind of baffled the entire plant isn't dieded completely given how bad the infestation has been this year. anyway, gave you a little peek into how i'm choosing to rehab it and also giving it the biggest haircut i've ever given it. she wanted to go shoulder length but i thought a bob would suit her better in this scenario.

    Thank you for showing the “not so good” or “Easy” parts of this hobby. I have so many plants thriving.. but sometimes one just takes a 💩. I used to get so discouraged… I’d throw them away if they even started yellowing. Now I take a page from your book and we go full rehab mode until every node is spent. Lol. You’re amazing and your micans will be amazing again, soon. Sending much love! 😊

    I love how casual and chill you are whenever you found the spider mites😂 helps me to remember that spider mites aren't as gross as they feel in my mind, and it's actually just a natural part of plant parenthood. So thank youuuu ❤

    not sure this is selfish, but I actually really enjoy seeing the messes behind the camera. It's very much my situation too and it actually makes me feel really calm and a relief that this is all part of being a plant parent with a million things on the go figuring life out in our 30s! Thanks for another video Charmaine. Much appreciated.

    Love your "That's what she said"😂(quietly)! I am going to try no drainage and a darker area of my bright Eastern room on my micans. I love this plant, but it doesn't like my conditions. Evrey other plant grows like a weed, this one's stagnant. Pudge looking for them dollars for his appearance 😂😂Go Pudge! 🐾 🐾 ❤

    This really a fun video to watch. Your confidence while you’re working on the plant is a draw for me to have the confidence to do things with my plants. I now know I can repot my big bop. It’s tipping the pot over and the soil is heaving up on the uphill side. It time to clean off my table and “just do it”. Thank you.

    I use the same exact concoction in a big spray bottle as a preventative for all of my plants. Except I add a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide as well but, knock on wood because I spray my plants when they first come into my house and whenever I’m just doing a typical leaf cleaning project. I think that this is the best “serum”. Another amazing video as usual :-) thank you so much.! I have a great feeling about this! That mixture works great in my opinion

    Love that you are you and dont change for the camera. I get frustrated at times with my plants when an infestation breaks out. You are so calm about the spider mites.
    Do you have any suggestions for eradicating fugus gnats?
    Im currently battling these for over a month after repotting 8 plants, and then it just infested my whole collection. Is there anything i can do?
    I've added hydrogen peroxide to my water but still have the problem. My plants are in soil with perlite, and some of them are in tropical soil like my mini fiddle leaf figs. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. 😢

    I always wet my substrate when I can’t get plant out, is it easier if it’s dry ? 🤔 have I been doing it wrong All this time.

      I’ve been informed that pudge is demanding a raise before he’ll make a full appearance again. Working out details with his agent this week! Also I do find wet pon is much easier to loosen up but I HATE working with it wet because it sticks everywhere and gets messy 🤦🏻‍♀️

      Just did a HUUUGE chop to our 40yo Euphorbia Trigonas at work that got really horrible frostbite during Covid and then root rot. I also have had such success with big chops from mites and aphids at home. 2/3 plants recovered from being chopped to just the stem or one single leaf and are now growing back pestless and healthy. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR MICANS!

  • @horace6851

    Hi, fyi, Provanto and Bug Clear Ultra are supposed to be systemics that kill spider mites (not like Bonide), so far I've only seen good opinions about them. There is also a targeted spider mites systemics developed by Bayer (in US sold as Kontos) but it's like $300 :) so I'm waiting for it to get a teeny tiny bit cheaper. I might save and get it though, spider mites are getting on my nerves slowly. Predators seem to control them in my collection but any time the humidity drops and predators hide in the soil the buggers are back. They never get to the point of killing the plants but the damage they leave is ugly and thus annoying :) Thanks for another video and all the best to you and yours!

    Great video.
    I saw another video that warned not to use alcohol that is package at a percentage higher than 70%. The explanation as to why didn’t all the way make sense to me 😂 but I only use 70% in my treatment with the same soaps. I also add hydrogen peroxide that comes to me at 3%. It was also recommended in the same video.
    My treatment seems to make a big difference. Hope yours does too.

    I saw another youtuber wash her plant, but she washed roots and all. She then put it in a bottle of water and let it grow and it was beautiful. I know you explained it, but I am still confused as to why you didn't wash the rest of the plant instead of throwing it away?

  • @amalia2669
    @amalia2669 Před 11 měsíci

    I always assume burying the stem would rot but it would make a great alternative to chopping if not.

    • @unplantparenthood
      @unplantparenthood  Před 11 měsíci

      I find that it’s not an issue unless the stems are at the very bottom of the pot! Otherwise, it’s really no different than propagating it :)

    Idk if you’d care but i dont think thats just any regular schmegular micans. Its not the OG one. I think youve got a micans var. kirkbridei… i got mine under “costa rican micans” from a friend and eventually found the proper name, and i can see the differences and yours is especially saturated and beautiful/shaped like it. So… its special-er 🥺 lol

    On a serious note - not to doubt on your level of expertise but does alcohol even bother mites? Because spider mites in my area are resilient to a military-grade acaricydes so that amount of alcohol is just gonna get them tipsy for free. Or am I just illiterate and should give it a try? My poor micans is under attack rn too so this is a real question

    • @8888margaret
      @8888margaret Před 11 měsíci

      I fucking hate spidermites. I would rather get scale, mealy bugs and thrips all at once but those tiny tiny fuckers. Maybe thats because we have acsess to systemics but anyway.
      Your micans always was a token lush trailing plant and here we are, starting fresh. Keeping my fingers crossed its gonna be better than ever in no time❤
