God, I used to work in retail. I admire anyone who can stick to their programming.
I remember one night I glitched while working in the fabric store. A woman refused to leave until she was helped with her embroidery project 8 mins before closing. Spoke as if I had been twiddling my thumbs for the past hour while she waited there. I had had a line of no less than 6 people for the entire hour before closing (and I appreciate all of them!! No one complained about the wait, even though I was the only person cutting fabric, and they were working on the honor system instead of numbered tickets).
When this woman said she had been waiting for help for the past hour and wasn’t leaving until she got it, I glitched. In front of the MOD, I asked her if she saw the massive piles of fabric behind me (there was 4x the normal amount of fabric that needed to go back BECAUSE I HAD BEEN TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE LINE AND COULDN’T PUT ANY AWAY!!!) and told her that was what I had been doing for the last hour.
I apologized to the MOD afterwards as my programming hadn’t prevented me from speaking out of line. She said, “well, she did refuse to leave 🤷🏻‍♀️” I died laughing

Entitled people are everywhere. I work at a flower shop and we had a client order flowers for a baby shower for a boy she brought us a picture of what she wanted we ordered the flower special for her occasion. I made up the arrangements packaged them and presented them to her, she took them with her complaining that they were expensive. Then came back a few hours later with her posse of women (like mean girls) and then proceeded to chew me and my coworker out about how ugly the arrangements were and couldn't get over that I wouldn't remake them on the spot for them in spite of having a stack of orders to complete in front of her. They finally marched into our flower storage selected new flowers for the arrangements and told me to remake them. I did so and before packaging them I showed them the arrangements they then informed me they wanted a full refund and hated the arrangements. So I told them I would need to call my boss and see if they could get a partial refund as they were special flowers ordered originally. My co-worker and I quickly priced the arrangements that I had made for them and put them in the cooler for walk in customers to purchase and while I was trying to refund these women, three customers came in and purchased their baby shower arrangements out of the cooler exclaiming at how beautiful they were in front of these girls. It was the most satisfying petty revenge. 😊

Ironically, for my hotel reception last year, it was another party that caused problems. We had booked our rooms, like, months in advance, including a suite where me and my ladies got ready. While I'm sure we made noise, we were super courteous and polite to everyone. At one point during the evening reception, we lost the key to the room where my wedding dress was (I had changed briefly into a cultural outfit and needed to change back). My MOH was sent to the front desk to get a key. She had to wait an extremely long time for a minute-long transaction because another party was bitching the FOH out for not just giving them our suite room "because we're a conference!" Yeah, and we booked the room months ago! My MOH was horrified by how bitchy they were being when the hotel had been top-notch the whole process. Hell, the usual room that they use for "nuptial room" had been booked when we first signed the papers and we just shrugged. So I had to miss over an half an hour of my own reception because another guest was mad we had booked a room they wanted.

The sports teams were always my least favorite. We had a sports group check-in to the hotel and the adults took lawn chairs and chairs from the rooms out to the back of our hotel. Where there was a small field and red necked their way to drunkenness. All while we had to deal with their grade school kids trashing the floors and knocking on guests doors and running off. By far, the worst group we had, one that caused me to quit on the spot, was a WWII tank division. Talk about disorderly, and this was first thing in the morning! No alcohol! They were worse than kids. Worse than rock stars. Worse than a kennel full of mean homesick dogs.
I worked for a veterinarian, and I’ll take schlepping kennels and walking 6 strange dogs at once before an entire battalion of 60+ yr-old men trying to relive their glory days!
When they realized one of their 3 servers really quit and they probably wouldn’t be getting breakfast, (the dining room was severely understaffed) they came after me and promised to behave if I’d come back. Not bloody likely!

I was yelled at for not getting coffee right away because I was in the kitchen getting food, yelled at for not getting food because I was getting coffee, or yelled at because the pancake syrup was too thick. That last one got it. When that guy stood up and waved his pancake in my face and asked what I was gonna do about it. I said “I’ll show you what I’m gonna do. I quit". I tore off my apron and ran sobbing from the dining room. Mph, and the cook was on speed and being really abusive, so it really was time to go

Back when I was in Law enforcement we had to evict an entire wedding reception from a Elks lodge they rented for fights and property destruction then go to 3 different hotels to evict those who got back to them and continued the mess in those places and wouldn't leave. In the end we locked up about 30 for various charges from drunk and disorderly to serious felonies of assaulting an officer and one with assault with a deadly weapon. (Hit a hotel employee with a fire extinguisher giving them a concussion and 18 staples in their head.) The latter ended up serving 20 years as it was the 4th time going to prison for assault and just got out after 7 years when they stabbed someone with a broken bottle.

I worked at a fancy hotel that did weddings on site. It was a damn nightmare. Between guests complaining, brides acting like the hotel staff is her PERSONAL staff, & just over all drunken nonsense & nonstop bitching…. I do not miss it at all. Not even a little bit.
I will say though it was hilarious when one bride insisted that her family/friends carry in her wedding cake instead of the staff from bakery. This was a tower of a cake, like 5 stacks… with all this extra stuff n last min details that the bakery staff had to do after it was set down on its table. Now instead of using the service elevator & going through our kitchen (like the bakery staff has done hundreds of times) she insisted they take it right down the stairs bc it was faster, the stairs lead right into HER ballroom…, yeah but reason they use the elevator is bc going down 3 flights of stairs that turn… ya know like 7 stairs then a landing & u turn right then another 7 stairs and so on…. Well like I said she insisted that her people bring the cake bc she did not trust the bakery staff. They begged and pleaded and even said one of her friends could help them but please let them do it and use elevator. Well we all know how brides are so of course “her people” pick up this cake and start down the stairs… the bakery staff was so nervous, one girl looked like she was about to cry watching them. They got down to 2nd landing- one more flight of 7 stairs to go…. And of course the bride turns to bakery staff who were following closely behind and goes “see they were able to get it down here no problem. They didn’t have to use the ‘lazy way’ and take service elevator”…. Well right on cue, before the word elevator fully left her mouth, one of “her people” tripped alittle and this entire 5 tiers of wedding cake went everywhere. And I mean everywhere, the floor the stairs, her people….
Omg she lost it. The bakery staff was almost in tears and the one girl, I think she was overwhelmed already, was like “you damn brides always think y’all know it all about everything!! Hope you like grocery store bakery cakes, bc that’s about all you’ll have time to get now!” And stormed away. Poor girl.,.
(Later I found out it was the first wedding cake she did by herself, from start to finish it was her very first project alone and it went amazing until the very end. She was so upset).
The bride wanted them to make her a new one immediately!!! Lady, that cake took them FOREVER like days-wks even- and her reception was only hours away. Bride tried telling the hotel WE had to pay for it and then go find her a new cake that was similar or close to the one that fell and the hotel had to pay for it. Her reasoning was bc the hotel staff should have known using the stairs to bring down the cake wasn’t a good idea & should’ve insisted on using the elevator. And we should have helped…. Ummmm whaaaaaaat…. Everyone begged you, EVEN YOUR PEOPLE, pleaded w you to please let bakery staff take cake in and use service elevator. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
I do not miss that job. Not at all….. I’d rather have the rowdy groups there at the sports bar every single night then deal w one bride. They’re the worst. And yeah the hotel staff to a bride all of a sudden become HER STAFF.

Any time I've ever stayed in a hotel I always make sure to always bag up trash, put all the hotel towels, etc into one spot in the bathroom and I always strip the bed and leave the linens on top of the bed but I don't just bunch it all up I make sure they can get each piece of linen without it being bawled up,etc I couldn't imagine just making a huge mess then leaving it all like that for the staff to deal with

Yup! I used to think I made good money as a senior manager with an incredible and creative team that worked with so much passion. They were real heroes that hardly ever needed me to step in and solve a conflict. But it did happen with the incredibly audacious ones who “demanded the manager” if they didn’t get the penthouse when they had booked a bloody standard room. Their logic: “it’s available and we are on holidays so why can’t we have it?”
Certainly not enough £££ to deal with them. Now that I’ve switched careers to STEM I understand how rubbish people in hospitality are treated and paid. Also remember, during the pandemic, and any recession, hospitality folk are the first ones who get redundant. Pay is really shit comparing to what you actually deserve, you are expected to be on your best behaviour at all times and can never look like you are having a bad day, holidays are meaningless to you, you are constantly on your feet, handle rude people that have some serious complexes and now feel like you are their PA. I adored my job, had a way with all the Karens, people used to call me the guest whisperer, and I was the highest paid Guest Experience Manager in a group of famous super cool hotels (not gonna say which one, but if no you know studio 54 you know what I mean), I used to get an allowance for shoes and clothes that was virtually unlimited because image was everything. I had my GM’s company credit card with me most of the time to buy whatever was needed to make our guests happy. I loved my team and everyone who worked so hard to make guests happy.
Some nationalities are next level rude, cheap and tend to lie a lot. Not gonna say which ones but if you have worked in hospitality you generally have an idea what passports the Karens hold. Sorry not sorry!

Oh this was a good one and it bought back the horrible memories of a similar experience of my own whilst working at a hotel. Three days of hell with the roughest, drunkest, rudest group of people I have ever met in my live. This was in the 90's so a fair way back but I'll never forget that last morning when they were all kicked out, all 120 of them, and yes the police had to be called.
It was group booking that was for a whole week but they didn't make it past the midweek.
They just didn't stop drinking, arguing, smashing and breaking things. Even blatantly groping and swapping partners without care. The worst of which was two women who were making out on the dance floor the first night. A colleague nudged me and pointed to them and said "Aren't they mother and daughter?" (Yes, yes they were). We were fozen in shock as the father join in and I realised he was actually on holiday with a different woman as well.
They would demand the bar to be open during breakfast, I saw parents giving children as young as nine alcohol and even used beer instead of milk on cereals.
After finishing my morning shift on the second day (11am), I was heading home and saw two women of the group crawling like a couple of commandos, on their hands and knees, back to the hotel. They were so drunk they couldn't even stand up.
I've seen and experienced a lot of crazy things whilst working at that hotel but that is probably the worst. It took a long time for all of the staff to recover from that one.

I commend all hotel employees, they definitely don’t get paid enough for everything they have to deal with.

Ohhh 12:34 (my fave #) also, this truly insightful front desk clerk has my heart. They have my soul. They have my entire understanding. They speak a language that only hotel/motel staff could fully interpret in the details. As a front desk manager a time or two myself, I have felt those dreads. Those ... anticipated annoyances and customer service skills queued up and pre-recorded. Ohhhh yes. Also, seeing cops everywhere when you pull into work, at a hotel, just like they described.... only murder in the building, could this be.... or, as in my case, outside of the building but right underneath and in full view of our cameras.... a suffering person turned a *** on himself, in front of his terrified girlfriend, and my night auditor watching in horror inside trying to understand with no audio.... that is also why they could be there. Unfortunately, an entire workplace has to resume it's functioning, so it becomes a very heavy day.

I've been a night auditor at a hotel for almost 20 yrs. now. Our hotel is about half the size of this one and we don't see very many wedding parties (thank God), but we are in a college town. So, we get Move-In weekend, Homecoming, Graduation, and a whole other plethora of college event weekends that turns our normally quiet hotel in to a flipping drunken frat house. I understand the pain and suffering these employees went through because I've been there myself more times than I care to count.

Then I listened to this invitation of the helpless hotel and the abuse the staff had to deal with and will forever be grateful that our wedding party did have fun, cleaned up after ourselves but there wasn't much of a mess anyway, and our biggest worry was falling up or down the steps to take our vows.
