    Selling my BMW M3 was not an easy decision, but I've ALWAYS wanted to see what a Lexus ISF was like to live with. There are certainly things that the M3 does better than the ISF, but for my needs, the ISF is the right choice right now.

    I had an '11 ISF for a few years. Loved it and was a great car and then decided to stay in the F family and upgraded to RCF with carbon fiber/torque vectoring differential (2016) for $55K with 5000 miles on it. Both are great cars and ISFs are incredible value for the money now. Have had my RCF for almost 2 years now. Best decision ever. Lexus quality is unbeatable. Would keep it for a long time. It feels like a an evolution of the ISF. More matured and everything kicked up a few notches. A lot more power (472 HP), sharper chassis/suspension with torque vectoring differential and more luxury/nicer interior. Nearly 7500 rpm revs limit. Have a full exhaust and it really howls. Exterior is subjective, but I love my bright Orange color RCF with the carbon fiber roof.

    • @KLRGT500KR
      @KLRGT500KR Před 4 lety +5

      @@SkywalkerOGK No it is not with all things equal. I owned both so i know. I love both cars. 1/2 mile trap speed for me was 140 mph for the RCF and 133 mph for the ISF with all thngs being equal. An RCF with exhaust only makes 415 - 420 whp. An ISF with full exhaust is around 370 whp.. An FBO ISF is around 420 whp while RCF with FBO and tune can get as high as 460 whp. RCF is heavier, but the RCF has the better power to weight ratio of 8.4 lbs/HP vs 9.0 lbs/HP and a broader powerband because of the higher rev limit. 0-60 mph is very close as it comes down to traction, but after 80+ mph, RCF takes over with everything being equal. RCF was tested only a couple of seconds slower than the M4 recently. I love both cars, but as I said it is an incremental improvement over the ISF. Not a big leap, but everything being 5 - 10% better.

      I was actually considering replacing the suspension with the 2012+ setup. It looks like you can get all 4 shocks/struts with springs and bump stops for like $1300. Debating if I go that route or just put Ohlins on the car..

    • @blakeparker6378
      @blakeparker6378 Před 4 lety +8

      Ohlins from FIGs engineering will be your best option. I’m sure you’re aware, but another known issue is cracked manifolds. Most owners, affected by it or not, upgrade to PPE headers. Supplement headers with exhaust, intake elbow/drop-in filter and tune the ISF is a 400+WHP platform. Really looking forward to your progress!

    The 2UR engine is completely different that was developed for the RCF in 2015 with 472 HP. There is a press release with all of the details of differences. Only the bottom end is the same. Everything else is different. It is a high-revving concept in the RCF with a 7300 rpm redline (7450 rpm rev cut off) and then it was later on put in the LC500 and GSF. It revs more freely and quickly due to lighter internals RCF got another updated version with 472 HP and 395 ft-lbs in 2020 with some minor intake tweaks. LC500 still uses the older 471 HP.

    I did this exact same thing. Sold my e92 M3 and bought a 2010 Lexus ISF. The 2012 has the better suspension that makes it much faster around a track. I swapped out the suspension with the Greddys made by KW. The 2010 suspension is just too harsh for me. I prefer the steering in the 2012+, so I bought the computer new from a 2012, funny I never bothered putting it in. 5 years into the ownership of the ISF and simply the best car I've driven. For a while I'd had a two-car garage, the F with a 997 Turbo S which was exceptional in its own ways. But when the time came to let go either one of them the keeper just had to be the Lexus. I just couldn't (and still can't) imagine parting with it. Such a well balanced car for its weight, and unlike the e92 M3 which is highly strung from factory, the car has a lot of potential left in the engine and with a mod as simple as a freer flowing exhaust it gets much faster. Reliability is just something that naturally comes with it.

Besides the Valley plate leak, known issues are cracked exhaust header, water pump failure, difficult starter replacement and radiator cracking (plastic), and lower rear control arm bushing being soft causing early inner tire wear on the fronts. Last one easily fixed with Figs or RR-Racing LCA bushing replacement ($350). Once you are past all of these issues, it’s bulletproof. Also, don’t believe the lifetime trans fluid BS. Should do some fluid service every 40-60k. Join a FB F channel and you will get lots of help and answers to questions. Enjoy this car! It is amazing!

      Calvin Mad My 11’ is about to hit 70k. After I changed my LCA bushing with a Figs Engineering at 36k, the steering got amazingly better. I would think an 08’ with 140k, the suspension is starting to get worn. Most F buyers swap out the shocks for new coil-overs right away. I haven’t seen to many in our F forums talk about suspension issues. My car is all original except for the rear shocks. If you do your own service work, jack up the front end and check the play in the front tires (grab the sides of the tire and try to shake, then the top and bottom and see if there is any play). It the tires feel like there is no play, then hit the dealer or a trusted shop and have them check all the front suspension for wear. Your upper and lower control arm bushings might be starting to go.

    That’s a great deal for a rare IS! I recently bought a 2013 Lexus GS 350 Luxury package with 106k miles and had to drive it back 2.5 hrs home from Sacramento to San Jose. This vehicle has sport and sport + modes.. but I drive it in “Normal” Mode 😂 Lexus/Toyota is the way to go!! I posted a video of the 2013 GS on my channel if you’re interested!

    I’m about to sell my Is350 and buy an IS-F, was going to get an older M3 at first but then I realized how stupid it would’ve been because one really big part of a car for me is that it needs to start up every single morning without any issues. (At least most of the time) so now I’m putting my IS350 up for sell for this beast!!

    The ISF is an outstanding piece of machinery. Vs the BMW you find it's more comfortable, eaiser to use, much lower maintenance, and that naturally aspirated V8 sounds amazing. remarkable sound system...and those rims look awesome.

    Very happy for your purchase! It's a great car and I love my MY2011 ISF I have. I wanted to share some info for the valley plate leak. I recently repaired mine as it was leaking coolant. You can not see the leak from the top of the engine. The coolant leak is only visible when looking with a mirror or borescope towards the rear of the engine and can be seen leaking along the transmission case. The other tell tale sign of a coolant leak for this car would be topping off coolant. Since I have fixed my leak, no coolant has been needed even after thousands of miles. If you're topping off coolant every 2 weeks to 1 month, you may have a coolant leak. Unlike BMWs where they consume some coolant with normal usage, these vehicles do not.

  • @ReferenceFidelityComponents

    A man with taste and common sense! Lexus make fantastic cars...the only one they don't make for some odd reason is a decent estate car. A rwd or awd GS Estate would do really well, especially with the 3.5 litre v6.

    Superb car my friend. I myself have a 2012 Lexus IS250 F Sport which I have owned for a year and a couple of months now. It has been extremely reliable. Only maintenance I have done so far is oil change, brake pads and rotors, and a K&N air filter. These cars are not too hard to work on so I do all this maintenance myself. Toyota seriously makes some of the best cars. I had a 1994 Camry LE and the beast is still running. I passed it on to my brother we just had to replace the thermostat and radiator. But yeah man you made a great choice!

      You can't own them all if you hang on to each one! At least I can't, I don't have the budget for it. It's hard sometimes to move on from cars, but I'm always looking forward to experiencing the next one. As for a manual family hauler, you can't go wrong with a F80 manual M3. That's probably what I would own if I had kids. Or maybe a Chevy SS, I love those too!

    I drove the ISF extensively when it was new and was left underwhelmed compared to my bimmers. I was not converted to Lexus. However, for most people and those who want more reliability than Europe can provide without getting a 911...it's a big win I can't argue against.

    This was creepy, my name is also Kurt, I owned a 2011* (Not 2010) same color, Nebula Grey Pearl. Was also my daily. I loved it but sold it and have been keeping an eye out for a clean example lately as I want to get back into one. I always wanted a e90 M3 but I couldn't justify it given their reliability vs an ISF. Second induction opening is A+. You made a good choice!
