Is St. Anselm’s Butcher’s Steak the Best Cheap Steak in NYC?

- Today we’re trying what is quite possibly the most affordable great steak in New York City. St. Anselm is always ranked alongside some of the best and most expensive steakhouses in the city despite being known for its reasonably priced Butcher’s Steak. We are going to give that a try along with their Anselm Burger, Pan-Fried Mashed Potatoes, and Banana Cake.

With all the greatest provisions going to NYC every day, because there are plenty of residents and visitors and commuters with incomes and expense accounts able to pay for them; any restaurant in the metro area that wants to up their menu, or just a part or a special for it already has a purveyor or knows one who can get you ANYTHING! Keep looking for these gems. Mom &Pop only eat 8-10 oz of steak and can't afford those reasonably priced $50 a steak a la Carte places. And my expense account expired 10 Amex renewals ago.
Totally agree. Affordable places are hard to come by in NYC especially when it comes to steak but we’re always on the lookout for a good price. If there are any places you think we should check out let us know!

I love the restaurants with open kitchens. You can see first-hand the pride the Chef takes in their work!
Same! Makes you feel like they have nothing to hide and it’s fun to watch them make everything in front of you
I look for the smiles on the chefs and cooks. When you love your work and proud of doing your best there is a certain contentment of competence thar SHOWS! Try USPS vs FedEX, or In 'n' Out Vs Mickey D's! It also reflects the establishment's management style.

With steakhouses being so insanely expensive, this place has such an incredible price point. Would love to try it.

Wow this is a great comment. That’s a really tough question. The burger surprised us more, fully loaded like that it’s one of the best we’ve had. You can get better steaks in other places although they’ll cost a whole lot more, but there are few better burgers

Always wondered if there's a relationship between price & quality. As one quality guru said in my Stats 101 class, "always look up stream". I'll stick with the Bentley over the VW Beetle. Thumbs up on the video

I wouldn’t pick this specific steak over some of the best porterhouses and tomahawks around but price to quality in NYC this is definitely the best we’ve had!

It was! The atmosphere probably isn’t for everyone. It’s very laidback, not really a celebratory steak dinner sort of vibe but the food was unbelievable!

What kind of spices on the potatoes?
I think it’s mostly garlic and pepper, maybe a little rosemary and truffle oil!

Food there is great, but like so many Brooklyn restaurants, they have gone down the natural wine path, so there is almost nothing on their wine list worth drinking. It's a shame.
