  • LARAAJI & ROGER ENO '"ISLANDS" (December 1989)
Out of print Compact Disc recorded at the Lanzarote Music Festival December 1989
This album consists of 2 solo live performances, the first half by Laraaji (3 selections) and Roger Eno (1 selection).
The sound, being recorded live, isn't as pristine as a studio recording, but I think the music is good enough and still deserves to be heard.
    1) Laraaji "Kalimba" (0:00)
    2) Laraaji "Zaragoza ll" (7:28)
    3) Larraji "Radiance" (19:48)
    4) Roger Eno "Music For Two Islands" (24:45)

Really? Wasn't even sure if you had this one buddy. It appears to be kind of an 'under the radar' release that I just stumbled across myself online years ago. Yes, that Laraaji is a great listen-one can almost use it as a meditation session. Simply wonderful, i'm sure you'll like it- Will chat with you soon buddy!

Wow Gary, this is fantastic. Now isn't Laraaji a multi instrumentalist?
I am not a big fan of live albums per-say because I always wanted to see the performers live instead. Sort of hear them before the recordings are doctored up in the studio. That is the main reason why I love bootlegs so much. You can hear them as is. Producers from the seventies were famous for that. But this one sounds really good. Do you know what studio album this song is taken from if any?
Enjoy the rest of the weekend Gary. I hope the weather there is better than it is here~

Hey hey, brother Rob. I was just thinking about you! Then I see you're the first to comment.
Yes Laraaji plays a hopped-up zither various ways so he gets a bunch of different sounds from it. He also plays a small thumb-piano (the one I see him play live is exactly the same one I have), plays some synthesizer occasionally as well as does some vocals-usually chanting type stuff.
I don't think these live performances were very much 'fixed' in the studio simply because of the budget (probably) from this very small label and also I do hear a couple imperfections that I would have fixed if I had access to a multi-track recording of this gig which leaves me to think the album may be just a live from the soundboard recording giving them no chances to remix things in a way a multi-channel master tape would.
There are short versions of 'Kalimba' and 'Zaragoza 1" (but not 'Zaragoza 2") on the multiple artists 'Music For Films 3" album which also has Brian ENo, Roger Eno, and even a track from John Paul Jones (!) on it. A decent album actually. I don't see the track 'Radiance' on another album although Laraaji does have an album with the title 'Day Of Radiance'-though there's no piece by that title on the album.
I haven't seen Roger Eno's "Music For Two Islands" listed on any of Roger's other albums actually.
Yeah, well it's still a bit cold and overcast here as well buddy. But i'm Ok with it-it still isn't as bad as it's been in the past few weeks and i'm not expecting anymore snow. Hope it's getting warmer by you. Hey, if you like, i'll send you all of our Jersey days that are over 80 degrees-I can't stand them myself personally!!!!!
-Hope you're having a great weekend my friend!!
      -Gary
