#audient #audiointerface #sound - Věda a technologie
You are lying. You are not just an enthusiast. You are the most genius tech nerd professional with exceptional explaining skills on earth. Period.
I sang the perfect camera song in the Audient iD14 :) I went with that over the Focusrite for those famous Audient preamps.
Nice! There's an accolade and a half! 😜 (It's a great theme song!)
CC, GU. G'day from Sydney gentlemen. Loved your colab.
On a practical note, have vicariously 'auditioned' a lot of gear via your* reviews - steered me in the right direction for my children's streaming aspirations, thank you. Keep up the great work.
*And the usual suspects, EposVox et al.
That's all I needed to hear to make my decision.
iD14 is King. Sound quality of the Universal Audio and other super expansive interfaces but less than half the price.
I use an iD22 for voice work, the ability to completely physically bypass the preamps was the deciding factor. This lets me use an external mic preamp of my choosing (Avalon M5). A lot of these interfaces only disable the internal preamp gain, but route an externally amplified signal through the internal preamp circuits. The iD22 lets you completely bypass the preamp circuitry entirely. It's one of those "probably marginal increases in quality" things ...
ON the voice I hear a minor difference, although I’m willing to bet that’s due to minor variances in the proximity to the mic. The guitar on the ID4 had a more well defined high end. On the piano, the evo 4 sounded ever so slightly muddier in the low mids. Very close, and for $120 or $130, the evo 4 is quite impressive.
Thanks for chiming in! :)
Eyy Podcastage I like your stuff.Watching to get advice on buying audio equipment.i do wish in your reviews you would mention problems that can be encountered with certain interfaces lol
Podcastage which do you prefer for baritone voice. SSL 2 or ID4. Maybe do a comparison video
i just bought the Evo 4 and what a difference it makes to my Focusrite. huge difference
I'm an audio engineer (for whatever that's worth in Internet Land), and the main difference I hear on voice was definitely a variation in mic placement. It almost sounded like the mic was in a different part of the room between the two recordings. The line inputs and the DI comparisons were more fair. I agree, it's definitely splitting hairs, especially in this segment of the interface market. Microphones, in particular, are where a would-be recordist should sink more of their money, all things being equal.
Next intro, say: "What's done *can* be undone"
I’ve already watched tons of reviews of this tryna figure out if I want it, but I’m so glad you’re covering it too. Your reviews are so comprehensive and easy to understand
"I don't fancy myself an audiophile or professional"
My ass! You're that and much more. Your standards, and insight here are second to none. Well done.
One of the best comprehensive and honest reviews I have seen in a while. As I got back into music, I was on an intro/broke-producer-budget, just trying to see if I was serious again, so I got a Behringer. It served it's purpose, especially for the price, but as I upgrade other things, Audient gear has come highly recommended. I have a small home studio. I went to check out a friend at his studio. 23 years in the business, he turned a full 2 car garage into a home studio. A lot of top of the line equipment. I sat down to check out his everyday work "interface", it's an Evo 8. I look at him and he says, " Trust me, get you one. I use it more for recording, than I do my high dollar equipment". This video is helping with my decision. Thanks!
Perfect timing! I happen to be on the market for one. Thanks Garald!
I had no idea you were so good at guitar and piano! Sounds great
hey thanks man, i was breaking my head to decide which interface to buy at all. you made my work easy in a snap. cheers!
I waited for this comparison. Thank you!
To me the mic sounds more neutral and detailed with the id4, while the evo4 has slightly boosted lows and highs.
Using a set of beyerdynamic T1
I just noticed, the EVO 4 uses USB C for power. That's awesome!!
Great video as always Gerald 😁. It's like you read my mind, I was looking for an audio interface 😂👍🏻.
Great video man! What mic did you used to record your voice?
Love your videos! Thank you for the great info
Wow Glad I found your video, I was about to pull the trigger for the Focusrite 2i2, until I saw the EVO. Thanks!
just found mint shape used EVO4 and snatched it up right away after watching this. Brilliantly thorough comparison. Thanks!

wow, i love your review so thoroughly on both devices
Wow this is super comprehensive, great review. though i'm still undecided on which of the two I'll go with, it's great to know both are fantastic interfaces.
Great review and nice piano playing 😊 I personally use focurite solo for my voiceover, and I think it's very good.
I Got That Now Imma Upgrade To The Audient
I've got an Audient ID4, its pretty good - the dual headphone ports have been useful for me
As always, great job Thanks Gerald
More audio gear reviews please!!
Would love to see you do a review of the best OSS lenses. Cheers
RHCP guitar solo right there. HAHA love this review! Thank you!
I actually also listened with DT770s and completely agree with your opinion on the sound difference. Especially on the warmth of the guitar. Personally that was almost nice enough on the iD4 to make the whole decision for me but that is only a small part of my use case which is primarily cello and keyboard based.
in-depth af just how i like it - subbed
Gerald playing music is so soothing
You always provide informative review... kudos bud!
Do you have a suggestion for a simpler set-up.. let’s say if i want to screen record my ipad zoom call for my classes.. and capture the audio?
Thanks Gerald. Great review. I've been looking for this head-to-head comparison.
As much as I'd like 2 XLR inputs and loopback, your review has helped me decide in favor of the ID4.
For me, sound quality is key and the ID4 has a richer, fuller sound.
Thanks again.
me too
@@konpadelic In the end I changed my mind, because I need the other features - especially the loopback, and I like that there's the potential for firmware updates.
I'm really impressed with the preamp in the EVO 4. It sounds great.
Did you get the ID4?
Enjoying your videos. If you only needed the interface for voiceover and video, would these still be the interfaces you recommend?
I just have to say, you are really talented. Great video, great voice, and great detail!
So I have the GoXLR Mini, but dislike it due to the lack of XLR inputs. Would the EVO 8 be a good replacement, or a great addition to the GoXLR Mini? Thanks man.
Merci beaucoup pour cette critique honnête et précise.
That's a damn great review/comparison, thank you
looking forward to trying this product, new to producing so can use quality equipment...
very well done ------ excellent production values
thank you for a detailed review
Great comparison vid man
Nice Californication solo :)
251 minor voicings that heal aids
That's a nice little box... I don't have anything to route audio now and this seems to hit all the right buttons.
Great work. Can you do eq on the microphone input and monitor it live
This came at a good time, I've been tempted by Focusrite for a while but interested by the EVO 4 now. More research to be done!
Which one did you pull the plug on then finally ?
Great review Man!!
Excellent video ! Thank you
Excellent, thank you. I was waiting for someone to do this comparison :) Side question - is it the Aputure light fans we can hear in the background?
The fan of the 300d II was running, but usually it's not too bad. This video though has the Shogun 7 running too and I think that might have been more pronounced. It's a noisy boy.
Great video, Gerald!
Perfect video bro! Thanks!
I own the Audient ID14 and its just been treating me wonderfully. I use a pair of 250 ohm DT770s and they power up them easily. The quality is also incredible. I never would've gotten an Audient Interface if someone didn't recommend it to me over the scarlett. I have no regrets at all.
Very informative video!
excellent job dude, thx much!
Enjoyed your review, however I use a Behringer Xenyx QX1002USB with my iMac Pro. Seems to work pretty well.
I've got an active bid on an evo4 on ebay so I'm pleased it has a good wrap cheers
Let’s be honest they are both great, just pick your price which isn’t a lot really, was impressed with the instrument inputs in both, to my ears the piano sounded richer on the evo, guitar and vocals equal to my ears anyway. Form wise I prefer the iD4 but then I’m old and enjoy metal and LED’s.
That RHCP throwback
"Best budget Audio Interface" : starts at 129usd. Just took a look at my 30usd Behringer Audio Interface and laughed!
Budget is a funny word. Loved the detailed review.
Do you mind if I ask the model number/name?
@@panelsandbars1529 UM2 is the cheapest one and UMC22 is what I have. Looking at the US prices now, it looks like the prices have increased significantly. Probably due to China import regulations. I bought mine from Germany a year and a half back.
Arda Celik I appreciate it, thank you. 😊
is yours better/much better than what Gerald is reviewing?
@@guerrerosdigitales worse
- Has the native ability to record desktop audio
- Has the native ability to record in mono rather than stereo
- The XLR input's at the back
- Set and forget your gain level with the Smart Gain function
Then pile those up with an insanely clean and quiet preamp? This is everything I wanted from interfaces from the very beginning. The Evo 4 is an Insta-buy from me.
Can't go wrong with the sound on either... I got the ID14 for expandability... and the mixer software is great for the ID14...
They both sound the same.
You’re very professional with your content love it👍
The guitar sounded a bit better on the iD4 but it really is close enough, especially if you're mainly using a mic. I actually looked away on purpose and didn't realize it switched on the vocals! But the iD4 does have a very "warm tube" sound to that D.I.
Hi Gerald, amazing review.
I'm set on the ID4. Do you have any info if it's going to remain supported for Apple devices in the coming years?
Support-wise, the newer EVO 4 would seem a safer bet, if it isn't for the lack sturdiness and durability.
Which one would you recommend for the long-term (5 years or more)?
Thanks!
Now this is what I was craving.
Late to this video party. I LOVE my Audient ID14 ... am considering upgrading to the 44 as I would love 2 more inputs. Cheers!
Hi, what a great review! However, do you think that evo 4 suitable for recording digital piano (digital piano with L mono & R outs), thanks!
I'm a new Audient iD4 user. And I concur with what he says about the iD4. It's a solid underrated, sleeper gear.
Personally have gone down the path of the MOTU M2 and/or Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 that price out between these two. Thank you as always for the video.
Super dope.. can you please do a comparison with the evo8 or is the evo4 just it ..
Awesome comparison. Personally, I felt piano seemed more dynamic in id4 . Great video.
audient makes always awesome stuff! I love evo4's simple appearance and quality of sounds. Hope you can get a MOTU M2 and get a chance to compare to audient stuff. Thanks. I'm considering buying MOTU M2 which is overestimated than audient product.
I wish the EVO 4 would have the mic and guitar input on the front with all the controls and xlr outputs etc directly in the back, so the knob faces you and outputs are directly behind it, would look much nicer in my opinion.
I almost pulled the trigger on the older audient model but went with the Yamaha AG03. Not going to lie, that EVO 4 looks sexy.
Wow Very Detailed Review...
Great comparison. FYI the Evo 4 does have a clip light - the channel light will flicker orange when it’s clipping.
What Vocal Rec. Chain are you using for the Voice Over in the shoot ? Mic and Audio Hardware for this Video ... You voice sounds really good :-)
Audient definitely has the some of the best preamps and A/D converters out there in the lower end interfaces. The ID14 is certainly comparable to a lot of the sub 1000 dollar units. And the ID4 is pretty similar just with less I/O. The ID22 however is one I suggest staying away from. They tend to stop working after a year or two and overheat. I've seen tons and tons of people on here as well as forums complaining about it. Audient has never come out and addressed these issues either so I can't say if they ever fixed them or not. I was going to spring for the ID14 a few months back but ended up getting an Apollo Twin for the plugins. But I definitely would choose it over the 2i2 I've been using for a few years.
hmm weird I have 2 id22 in two different set ups and never experienced it, not even overheating
Have you seen the Motu M2? I've got one on order and what I'm seeing looks great to me. I'd be interested in your input on that setup if you can get your hands on one.
Just photos. I like the LCD screen and the price is nice.
Your audio in this video sounds nice and crisp. You using something new?
I would say ..
The ID4 for music production.
The Evo for recording voice overs, dubbing, podcast.
Which one would drive 250Ohm dt990 pro better?
Donna Wilson
I watched this video with audio run through an amp into classic 80’s tower speakers. I felt like the EVO had slightly more warmth on the reading and with the guitar, and the piano sounded indistinguishable. To me the differences I did hear sounded like they would be a choice of taste, but my taste ran toward the EVO
Agree and they are both from the same company, so its a win win. The automatic setting adjustments on the EVO could be very useful for some.
i personally have an Audient ID4 with my Shure sm7b and some dutch preamp and it sound phenomenal for the price
“Hi I’m Gerald Undone y estoy re loco”
The guitar was sounding so good on the ID4 that I wouldn't either mix it that much, I'm so impressed for that price, and I've heard the difference even only on the speaker of my iPhone 7, I have to watch this video again with headphones
Dude, you had me at Bruce Banner. Make Mine Marvel! :)
0:24 @Mike Maxson well done!
0:24 You did in on Purples! haha
Listening to the differences on very decent set up with analytical headphones - the ID 4 seems more balanced across the frequency range with a bit more detail in the higher frequencies vs the Evo, which seems to have more of a bump in the low mid's giving the Evo a "warmer" tone. I actually prefer the sound of the Evo but I think the ID 4 is probably more accurate when it comes to music production and mixing. The differences aren't night and day but they are there - both are great entry level interfaces imho - I used to own the ID 14 and it punches well above it's price - I don't think you can go wrong with either of these at this price - hope this helps :)
I recently bough the ID4 and i love it!
Hi, how is the latency?
@@takaa01 I dont know. It does not really matter to me since i record voiceover works with one microphone, nothing more.
I love the smart gain function
Could you recommend the best uhs-ii SD card reader? Thank you.
i just couldn't not subscribe u. this is amazing content
Got it now 1 month. Works great.
I use the ID4 a lot. I even use the ID4 as a preamp before the camera without a iPhone or MPB as the DAW, and just go straight from the output to the input of the camera. There’s a slight decrease in quality using the GH5 converters, but I can’t really hear it unless I’m in my studio. Side note, and the irony is enjoyable, I like the sound of the ID4 over the UA Apollo Twin Duo. Better converters!
Any thoughts on the Behringer U-Phoria UM line, starting at around 50 dollars?
Room treatment is much more important than mic pres/interface or mics. There is some very obvious boxy frequency resonance on both vocal tracks needing for a surgical eq.
I can't decide between the EVO-4, Motu M2, or the M-Audio Air 192/6! I think I'm certain about midi I/O but, how necessary is it for sequencers/synthesizers?
Are there any other multichannel interfaces (aside from the Scarlett) that allow this (10:14) mono feature in Windows, instead of the usual stereo only option where the mic is only on the left side?
Amazing! Was just looking for a sound interface. BTW, would you recommend Evo4 over Focusrite Scarlett Solo gen3 (dont need second xlr btw)?
I'm just gonna say this, the Scarletts inputs are lacking and cheap compared to audients. I've had many interfaces, and I truly haven't found one that stacks up sound wise to the audient
audient anytime over focusrite scarlett
This content was QUALITY
Hey, I'm starting a podcast so would I be able to do both my mics in and 2 headphones out on the Evo4?
Audient has some serious well known qualityissues with their interfaces, especially the ID22 that is worth to read up on before purchase
Is there a way to have the monitor output not mute when you plug in your headphones in via software? I would like to have both plugged in at the same time and not have to constantly be plugging in and unplugging cables . Also , can I control the brightness of the leds?
Hey - what mic are you using in this video? The Oktava?
