The Conwy cafe ride - I'm a cyclist and I live in the Pennines

  • An insight into what road cycling in the United Kingdom can offer the keen cycling enthusiast.
Today me n' Mike took on a 100 mile ride to the fantastic and historical Conwy Castle in North Wales where we had a spot of lunch at the Cantin cafe which is nestled next to the Castle grounds.
We started the ride from Graham Weigh Cycles, which is a well know bike shop in the area and is a great place to visit if you are into your classic old bikes from the 1980's.
The ride then took us along the coast passing through some well known seaside holiday towns with a challenging return leg where we headed into Snowdonia on a rather hilly route.
My videos are not sponsored and I aim to offer you, the viewer, a genuine perspective of how the ride went along with a narration, route maps and so much more, I hope they give you some inspiration and motivation to get out there and go for a ride....

Lovely to see and hear more interaction from Mike., he’s great. Of all the times I’ve been cycling I think I’ve only had a TAIL wind a handful of times and what a difference that has made, but the HEAD wind, oh my goodness, talk about energy sapping.
As we approach winter, it’s so lovely to see your summer rides and look forward to those days again and the speed this years gone so far, Spring won’t be long.
Thank you lads for all your encouragement both in the commentary on your rides, the brilliant filming and simply taking the times to do what you do.

Hi James, I have had a change in circumstances with my job which has really impacted upon my free time to edit the videos quickly and at one point to even get out on the bike !
I am trying to address all of this by tweaking the work / life balance where I get the commutes in on a daily basis to keep the fitness levels where I want them to be and to get that all important "Fix" which exercise gives you.
I don't blame you for slowing down a bit on the bike riding, the weather has not been kind to us for some time now and we are in the thick of it with the darkest of nights right now ( two and a half weeks to the solstice )
The Rapha 500 is a challenge that is well worth thinking about, I will certainly give it 100%. if I decide to take it on. It's a lot of miles to cover in December and I won't be doing it on Zwift either ....so the average speeds will be more like 13 - 14mph
I hope you are well too and thank you for your continual support and comments in this corner of CZcams.

Thank you Jay, most of the routes I plan kind of make sense if you spend 5 mins looking at a map. I try to give enough information in the videos for people to get a general idea of where we have been. Hello Tony and thank you for the kind words. I used to be able to plough through the videos easily within a week but the more I have gotten into the editing side of things and narrating they just take so much longer to create. This particular one took a month to put together. I can spend literally two or three evenings creating the maps of the ride in Photoshop alone before I start to look at making a video. Hello Terry, you are correct, things are quiet and I am not happy about it but I am hoping to rectify this over the coming weeks. I have had a change in my role at work which has impacted many things, one of which is editing the videos and another is actually getting out on the bike !
Believe it or not I also lost loads of unedited video files from all of my summer rides, however I have managed to find a company who can retrieve data from corrupt / damaged hard drives. Fingers crossed there ( It never rains, it pours..)
Anyway, all that to one side Terry, I do have a nice cycling video coming up where me n' Mike are out in the Yorkshire Dales National park and " Spoiler alert" I gave Mike a camera OMG !

I see cars on a daily basis who show total disregard for me as a cyclist when they pass by and then almost have a head on collision.
Take it easy out there and if possible do routes where you know where the potholes are. I know it can get boring, but this time of year after riding a couple of local loops , you will become familiar with road and the dreaded cavernous holes.
