- I'm a cyclist and I live in the Pennines and today I went for a tootle in the Pennines. The route took me over to Hebden Bridge and Todmorden with the fantastic descent of Cragg Vale.
If you are a keen cyclist or are looking to get into this great sport, then I hope this video offers you some inspiration to kick start 2024

Always good to do a loop , glad you do those speedy descents so I don't have to. The weather is due to pick up next week so we can all get out in the dry. Happy New Year.
It did feel a bit quick at ne point Terry and yes the weather looks it might settle down with a cold dry spell. It might make for some good early season riding

“Passed by a mountain biker” 😂 I sometimes go so slow I’ve been passed by an old lady in a wheelchair 😳
The main message as you say Daz, is to go out and enjoy what you enjoy, and for us it’s riding our bike.
The main reason I gave up running a long time ago is that I was eager to go faster, further and for longer just to see more of the countryside of which you always show so well.
I think this video along with your final message at the end rounds off nicely your years work, and I’d be proud to have produced such high quality work and allowed others to see what you and Mike have experienced.
I’m sure I can speak for all that love seeing your videos when I say a big THANK YOU and let’s see what 2024 brings.

I've never seen any one carry speed quite like it.
I'd have never been able to get on his wheel.
All in all , it's been a good year on the bike, despite the weather.
I guess we can all reset and do it all over again from today . New goals and new challenges ...
Happy New Year Day, thanks for all your videos and this one on NY's Eve. I grew up in Longridge and was able to get back there this year to ride some of those roads again. Did the long ride up to Dent and over Barbondale. The rain was biblical but still enjoyed it. All the best, AndyC
Hi Andy, that's a cracking route all the way up to Dent, I always get a real sense of accomplishment on a big ride when I get over that way.

Hi Daz, all the best for 2024. Away in Tenerife ATM (3 weeks) hiking. Canna wait to get back next week to get my wheels turning again. However I’m aware there’s been lots of rain and several usual routes will be out due to flooding.

If you had a wish list of what to include in a 20 mile ish loop that probably has it all. The descent from Sharneyford, particularly as the road surface is really good, is a cracking (and somewhat life affirming!) few minutes on a road bike! Hope you have a great start to '24!
I think we are blessed to have all of this on our doorstep and that Sharney ford descent is a scary fast one, I always have to have a word with myself at the top, before hand..
I haven't done Cragg vale anticlockwise for a while now and I really enjoyed it.

My circumstances changed significantly this year which did impact the bike riding
(it was work related ) and I did start to talk about it in the video but then edited it out.
As a life long cyclist, I really need that cycling fix and I hope you find it too when you kick start your season...

You would have to lean into the bends Bernice otherwise we wouldn't get around that left hander at 30mph. It's like flying without wings.

@@MrDazP1adv3ntures Believe it or not that’s just what I did fifty years ago on the back of my husbands motor bike, we did come a cropper once in a freak storm when my husband pulled into a filling station hitting a curb that was covered in a stream of rain water, I went flying without wings strait over his head, through a new windshield and set of lights, apart from the stream of running water going down the neck of my leathers into my boots I never got a scratch, I tell you I’ve had more lives than a cat or, a wonderful guardian Angel 👼
My word, that sounds like a proper tumble but great to look back at because you lived to tell the tale
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures That’s true Darren, less than half a mile away we pulled into a pub to ask the landlord if I could use the bathroom to ring out my under garments he looked puzzled and said what rain storm! we had a hundred mile ride back home I was frozen to the bike, the land lady had to help carry me up three flights of stairs, should have wrote my memoirs, who knows I might have made some money on our mis-adventures, it would have taken a life time to list them all 😂 have a good day hope it’s still not raining 🌧️ 🥴

It's all about getting out and spending your precious time having an adventure, no matter how big or small.

Wow, that is a small world.
We used to meet up in Littleborough square or the park where I started this ride from, and then go all over the place.
He could pop a
Wheeley in first gear at 10,000 revs and would get his knee down on the bends near Hollingworth Lake like Barry Sheen.
He had a black RD 125 LC MK 2.
We used to try out different exhaust to make them go quicker, Microns and Allspeeds. Great times.
I used to see him at the Dale too and every time I went, they got beat. He would joke about them loosing because I had turned up.
So many happy memories.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures I used to go out on the fire blade with him in more recent times.
I went to watch Rochdale with him quite a lot, and he taught me how to play pool to a good standard.
As you say, so many happy memories. He was always tinkering with the bike and trying to make it sound better/go faster 😆

It's always a bit of fun on the descents but like you said, sometimes you can carry the speed a bit to much when the conditions aren't in your favour.
That pinch point near the skip and the dog walker was a bit of a squeaky bum moment .
Ah yer making it look easy now Dazza - lovely video and great edits. Happy New Year.
It was a gentle tootle.
Going back for the camera was a bit of a swine on the flyby shots, especially when the wind blows both cameras off the wall.

I live over in Ribble Valley, just near Chipping but I absolutely love having a climbing day round there, Mytholm Steeps, Doghouse, Cross Stone, Ridehalgh. . . just endless places to really dig in! Happy New Year Daz, ey up lad!
Tried making it up Doghouse around this time a few years back, ended up on my arse....like ice as it was so slippy, 30% gradients and slimy stone dont mix!!! 🙂
Lucky you having all of that on your doorstep, I fancy riding over to that cafe in the woods near Beacon Fell at some stage but yes, Dog house lane in the damp or with a frost is almost impossible to keep the traction going. It sounds like you like a good hill climb
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures the little cafe on top of Beacon, the visitors centre? Its pretty minimal to be honest, no scones as far as I know. Tis nice round there tho, spend a lot of time around there and around F.O.B in general. Dales and Lakes aswell.
haha yeah, there's just something about going uphill, actually prefer it to going downhill, proper weirdo! 🙂
I need to find another cafe on that side ...
But I'll probably give it a go at some stage .
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures surprisingly not too many round here really, Cobbled Corner in Chipping is hardly ever open. Cobble Hey near Calder Vale is nice. One at Holden Clough near Sawley too. All nice but not many to go at.

Smashing little loop to blow off the cobwebs and round off the year. Nice to see these familiar roads from your perspective.
First half of the Cragg descent is great fun when it's a pure tailwind and terrifying when it's cross-tail!
Judging by the cadence I think you were passed by an e-MTB.
My mate Frank Smith has gone down here at a crazy speed. He was hitting 50mph on some sections and filmed it with a Garmin camera showing all of his data on screen. Incredible stuff.

I used to catch the bus from Todmorden on a Friday night and sink a few pints in the pubs around Walsden before getting the next bus on to Littleborough.
They used to do a nice pint of John Tettleys in the Cross Keys but we all liked the Newky Brown back then and the occasional Grolsch
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures pubs not very good nowadays compared to how it was . i cycled past the wagon the last hot day in june i nearly stopped off cos looked ok tho. Grolsch bottles used to be good i never see them now

Yes, it was brought on after listening to Tyson Fury in an interview.
His words triggered something inside me and I thought I'd give it a go. It was hard because I enjoy a pint of real ale. I am over 12 months now and don't get that urge to sip a pint of real ale or have a glass of wine in the evening.

Ha ha thank you kindly. GCN has a top budget with an endless supply of bikes and equipment and there's me with an mountain bike converted into a hybrid road bike, made out of spare parts.

Hi Geoff, I try to lead a simple way of life and not to get drawn into what is going on in the world.
I just never realised that things happening thousands of miles away would end up causing issues on the streets and towns around the North West.
I love my cycling and couldn't think of anything better to do on a weekend with my time.
And yes, the videos are still in the process of being edited and haven't dried up , I just can't keep churning them out as quickly as I would like to do.

@MrDazP1adv3ntures yeah it's literally laughably that these protests are actually going to have ANY effect on the current situations going on .......anyway I've literally had to de rust my chain cassette chain wheel ect twice cos not riding ,I've got a pinarello f10 so cost me a small fortune so need to get back in the game mate ,strava telling me not been out since 8th October, drink funked me,but done after tonight back on the dogma son this week got good weather 🚴♂️💨💨💨
