Today I wanted to get back out in the van but didn't want to travel far away, so thought it would be good fun to try and do some stealth van camping in the city of London.

That’s one of the unstealthiest camps ever. Those covers for the front windows are nice, but they are an obvious indicator that someone is in the vehicle. I know it didn’t matter in this case because the curtains you have show light through and every man and his dog would have known someone was in there, but if you go on a real stealth camp, those covers for the front windows will expose you, it’s better to have a blackout curtain between the ‘living area’ and the cockpit.

I kinda wish we didn't need to stealth camp and hide ourselves. But we do. I have stuff chucked at my truck in the wrong places. I don't steal. I don't take drugs. I work for my living. But at times, I feel the hatred.

IMHO stealth camping is for fun (but also has a serious element if you are a prepper).
If you live on the road per se, then isn't that a lifestyle choice?
A good sleep mask does me good, if it’s too bright.

The window covers just scream that someone’s sleeping in there, curtain across the bulk head is much less obvious

Is it just me but with the reflective surface on the front windows it couldn't be any more obvious someone is sleeping in there. I used to put black fabric on my car windows then from the outside at night it wouldn't arouse suspicion.
Yep, they're a huge giveaway that someone is camping in that van. Needs a divider wall between the cab and the van with door access. A black curtain can work but a divider wall is much better. Then you put a clipboard and yellow safety helmet on the dash, to make it look like a work van. You can also put some magnetic stickers on the side of the van, with a fake business too. This creates the impression that it's a work van and not a camper van. I have a magnetic sign on my van that says "WASTE LOGISTIC SERVICES". Looks like a work van.
I use weed matting it’s lightweight cheap and can see through a little from inside.
Triple layer thermal curtain across behind the seats is a better idea for stealthiness. We found that that the windows in the cab would be dripping with condensation in the morning with the foil blinds, not great if you need to move quick..

He'll probably want to use the cab area when there's a swivel seat so I get why he's using the blinds but black is better for stealth at night than the silver ones.

This is about as stealthy as the SAS scene in Whoops Apocalypse with Rik Mayall. At least you didn't bring a tiger.
Duuuuude, so many mistakes made there. Rule #1 is never enter your van from the side sliding door when you're at your sleeping spot. That's a HUGE no no and attracts the wrong kind of attention. Always access the back of the van from the front of the cab. Rule #2 is always have your window coverings on in the back of the van before you pull into your sleeping spot. Hopefully you build a wall with a door in it, in between your cab and van sections. This way you pull into your sleeping spot and discreetly go into the back of your van, close the door behind you, and then turn on a light. This way you attract as little attention as possible. Then when you leave in the morning, never leave through the sliding door. Those suction-cup windshields are a huge giveaway the van is a camper too. Put a hardhat and clipboard on your dash and most folks will think it's a work van and not a camper too. The divider wall with a door in between the cab and the van back is a must for stealth camping.
Also you opened your sliding door to tip water out. Huge no no. That's like waving a neon sign saying someone is camping in here!! And yep, ear plugs are a must have for sure. I use the tradie ear plugs and they work a treat.

Believe it or not, condensation can create a lot of water. Noticed you closed your vent. Since we produce over a quart of water vapor just sleeping, you are going to want a way for moisture to escape. Crack the vent an inch and leave the sun shade open.
Thats a good bet, otherwise use some food coloring in a bucket of water and soak w/e part of the van Will think its leaking. Easier to see than water but just as easy to clean up
That very well could be, just seems very odd that he only has it in that one area. I would expect it to be all over the van.

@@mail4castle Another good point. The window covering could have channeled all the moisture from the window to that one area somehow.
Will those window vacuum things are great for scooping up condensation :) also the condensation traps (or cat litter in socks) work well as well
Checklist for Will:
1, get yourself a checklist.
2, check off the things on the checklist.
3, you'll then have a chair and pillows.
4, be more organised!
These vans are notorious for rain water gathering along the top of the sliding door seal. Then as soon as you pop the side door, it runs down the inside of the door and on to the floor. Since you were in and out, I'll bet that was the problem. I've fitted a rain channel above the door and it stops the water sitting on the door seal.
For the mean time, maybe you can put anti-slip mats below the boxes and the loo. its not permanent, and it should reduce the shifting around

I admire you using the van even though it's not finished, shows you are not stuck on perfectionism.
Pillow? Just throw a cushion on the front seat and leave it there - then you've always got a makeshift pillow! Loved the opening scenes throwing all the stuff in (minus chair and pillow!) and then the excitement : "We're Off"

Condensation will be a huge problem Will , Anything metal will be ringing wet once it starts to get chilly outside, even the smallest metal part
Stealth Parking ? You might as well of left your hazard lights on. No one uses windscreen blinds in winter.There are some great quiet park ups in London, particularly by the river.
I have similar ones but the sucker mounts can be moved so you can have the shiny side inside , as mine are black on one side it works well , I use shiny side out in the summer when not in stealth mode .

If you forget your chair again use your dunny as a seat, its designed to be sat on after all.
Wet floor could be water coming in the top of the side door Will, particularly if you weren't parked level. We had to fit drip rails to both vans we've had, fiamma make some stick on self adhesive ones that aren't too expensive.
Stumbled across your channel by accident but am absolutely addicted. The videos you make are top notch and I'm so looking forward to the next one, you seem like a genuine guy and that comes across. People think videos just happen but you have to film record and edit them then upload them to CZcams, and I'm guessing the editing takes the most time, loving the van build stealth camping and road trips keep it up Will I can't wait for the next one.

Check the seal around the door just in case that's what's leaking. Better to find it now then when the van is finished! Great content dude.

Yes would love to see another supermarket stealth camp, Ive really missed your supermarket stealth camping. Perfect places for a quick camp over the winter period, I think it would be best to stick with carparks they will be quieter than streets :)

It may be condensation that is the issue with the excess water in your van. You could do a test next time you have access to a garage, spend the night in your van in the garage. Duplicate your experience as far as cooking, exterior temperature, closing off the vent, etc. and then in the morning check for moisture. I hope it’s not a leak! Thanks for all the videos!!!
The curtains look like classic condensation wet, it was probably just from the cooking and general overnight sleeping a proper heater will sort that out.
Could tint the rear windows will look less obvious then the curtains 😂

Hardly stealthy in a big white van!
Fun fact: most polluted road in London, proceeds to drive big diesel van on it for no reason. (great video though). Top tip: with a curtain across the cab you look a lot stealthier as having the actual windows covered (with reflective material) is a sure sign it's a camper and not just a van parked up.
Hi there Will i think your water Leek could be coming in around the sliding door seal it could be leaking at the top and running down the seal you could buy a new one. Or get some thin foam strips make a small nick in the rubber and push the foam strips up inside it; if you can do it every couple of feet you should be able to do all round the door and resealing the nicks with some Super Glue. I got this idea off of Edd China on Wheeler Dealers with a soft top Jaguar it works really well hope this helps.

In 1987 I was living in West Hampstead, London. My 'neighbours' lived in their van outside my place. We got on and I had no issue with them being there. They were good craic as it happened.
The van, Ford Transit, was really well set up. Their story was they'd travel for work, around England and Wales mostly, and were constantly needing a place to stay. As an answer to that they revamped the van they worked from.

Hey Will, how about setting yourself a goal? Stealth camp in the heart of every big city and town, as close to the center as permitted (and safe). Love to see that and follow along. And perhaps cook, or eat a take away of, the most famous meal of that City/Town. It will certainly get you around, and educate your subscribers to great British places and eats.

STEALTH CAMP ….puts semi see through home curtains up that let the light through the windows. Then bangs everything as loud as he can, knocks things over and shouts most of the video lol! I was honestly waiting for him to bring out the ghettoblaster and strobe lights!!

Hi Will, couple of tips:
You only parked on one of busiest cut through better off nearer south park or hurlingham.
Open front road side window 1 inch Def when cooking and have fan on and then when sleeping as ceiling blind blocks ventilation
Buy a roll of non slip mat and put under sliding stuff. Can then use on shelves and in drawers later
Could have sat on potti!
Finally remember cool box needs to plug into jackery when not driving, only keeps cool temp for few hours.
Ps anywhere between Balham and Hammersmith you are under Heathrow fly pass.
Possible condensation on door too. Will make big difference when put in more insulation. I recommend wool, bit more expensive but don't need full moisture barrier, healthier and less likely to have mold pockets.

Added to earplugs, you can get some white noise like the sound of a fan. White noise drowns out city sounds very well.
