  • This is a video brochure of the 1984 Oldsmobile lineup. Rest assured, more Oldsmobile goodness to come. I'm a huge fan of the Cutlass Ciera and Cutlass Cruiser, so expect a Car Tale or two featuring this amazing brand... that should never have departed this earth.

Nice video. Oldsmobile sold 1M cars annually until or around 1986. Sales took a nosedive when its B bodies and RWD Cutlass bowed out. Olds had to depend on the Ciera to carry the sales mantle until it too bowed out after 1996. Olds was finished after failed attempts to rejuvenate sales with Intrigue and Alero.

While I own an impeccably restored 1967 Mustang, one car I'd like to have back from my past is my 1984 Firenza hatchback. Fun to drive with a 5-speed, got great gas mileage and the 1.8 liter from GM of Brazil was a much better engine than the 2.0 from Chevy (I think). Thanks for bringing back memories!

Nicely done. Thank you. I never realized how many toppings one could put on plain white bread, Oldsmobile did though! So many trim levels! One car that has always stood out to me is the Delta 88 sedan. I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved the look of them... more so than the LeSabre, Caprice/Parisienne. In my late teens, (1988 or so) working in a car wash, this one particular’84 Delta 88 would come in: white with maroon interior, maroon vinyl top, wire wheel covers and a power glass sunroof! It had a dignified presence, yet the sunroof gave it a sporty flair. Simply gorgeous. It didn’t strike me as an old man’s car at all. I would happily drive that car today. Of course, I am the age now that would have been the target demographic for that car back then.

I miss my mom’s fully loaded, wood-panel, Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, with an aftermarket sunroof.
She traded it in for a brand new ‘90 Ford Escort wagon that had no options; not even a tape deck! I was 6 years old.
That was the first ever grudge I ever held against my mom. She told me years later, that she regretted doing that because the Escort was an uncool, underpowered, piece of junk.

I got an 83 or so toranado as a punishment for exploding the transmission on my 87 Monte Carlo SS also while the engine was being replaced in my fiero.. ( I was a dumb kid) but little did my dad know I fell in love with that car. Very comfortable and the 307 sounded good but was slow. Lost that thing to cash for clunkers.. sad time in America

For me, Oldsmobile's hay day was the mid 50s to the early 70s. It took GM many decades to gain the design skills to incorporate those shock absorbing bumpers into a design that didn't awkward. I suppose material options were the big game changers. The 1966 to 1968 models were the pinnacle of Oldsmobile designs imo...particularly the Delta 88 and pillored 98 Luxury Sedans. These days it's just not that exciting when the new models come out. Very few new cars turn my head now.
