  • Start up of my 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera that I have stored away during the winter. Just a quick video for people that like A bodies. If you’re interested, I have a friend with 2 Chevrolet Celebrities. Should I upload those too? Let me know in the comment section below.

This was a great car. Sold it about a year and a half ago. 2.5L
I now own an 85 with the 3.8L and as much as I like the v6.. the 2.5 was super reliable and not nearly as quirky as the buick 3.8 they put in these. If you go to my channel and check my other videos you should see it.
      Thanks for watching MGM

@@snipindowntown Thr Buick 3.8's with the plastic intake manifold were definitely trouble.
Had one crack and fill the cylinders with coolant...yay.

DO you know what years that spans from? fwd or rwd 3.8?

Tapping on the throttle does not cause a "kick down". The ecm brings the idle down based on time and temp. A dirty or malfunctioning IAC can cause issues as can vacuum leaks. I know this because I worked on and around these cars at a Buick Pontiac dealership back in the early 1990's. I still have 2 tech 4 powered cars. Btw, the iron Duke was renamed the tech 4 (IV) when it went to efi. Fun video.

How did you access the distributors/distributorless ignition on the transversely mounted front wheel drive iron dukes? And what might cause an iron duke to run rich at idle, get poor fuel economy, and not go into closed loop at idle and off acceleration?

You bet I'm watchin'! Thanks for the shoutout! :D For its age, this car is in such phenomenal shape! You can tell it's been well taken care of. I remember the one we had also revved high when it was cold and also kicked out a lot of exhaust at first. I think it's just a thing with them. I did notice the badging on the trunk in the beginning of the video, that's a nice touch! That's interesting though how the Canadian version has 6 slots for the mileage where the American version only had 5, at least ours only had 5 so once it hit 100,000 miles, it rolled over to all zeros again. And that's a great thing about priming the fuel pump as well, I do that on the 86 S-10 as well since it's fuel injected but sometimes doesn't want to start really well in the cold and since it's delegated primary as a plow truck, it needs to start up when it's cold. Oh what I'd do though for having the 86 back. I loved that car very much! That's why I especially appreciate seeing this one, so well taken care of and beautiful! The unfortunate thing is I don't have a garage so all my vehicles have to sit out in the weather which doesn't help. But dang, not even any rust by the fuel door! Usually those were the first to get rusted because people don't knock the nozzle off before they pull it out. I always do that and clean off any drips that may happen. Great upload! :D

Viper Jay 5 oh boy where do I start... well the rust at the fuel door... there is no rust below it, due to the fact that I too tap the nozzle. It has spit out on me before because the air slots on the fuel tank neck aren’t amazing so the air doesn’t get through and bubbles and spits out or clicks thinking its full when it’s not. There’s a small spec or at least a bubble next to the fuel tank door, so rust is going to start i’m sure... and no problem. I was hoping you’d watch the video!! I’ll hopefully film the celebrities tomorrow! Does your ‘86 s10 have a 5 speed manual duke??? Dude upload a video of that thing!! Yeah this thing usually fires up but I tend to let the fuel pump work its magic. The thing was a 1 owner before I bought it. Old man, had cancer in or around one of his eyes and had to stop driving. Bought with 99k. And your ciera must’ve been in miles!!

Viper Jay 5 i wish I had the steering wheel logo (jet logo). Also, this car was a Detroit car but it was the Canadian detroit plant, so some cars were destined for Canada and some the states. I guess this one was made Canadian. And I knew you’d notice the badging on the trunk lol. Next time i’ll hold the camera properly!

snipindowntown not too bad tho those are pretty cheap and easy to replace would be easier if they weren’t on the back of the motor tho. Wish I could find one as clean as this they’re all beat up here in WV.
