I love how you're unbiased. I know you're a really big Ford fan but I LOVE how you're not the typical "Ford all day. Nothing else is even close" Type of guy. And for that you've earned a sub. :)
I’ve been doing a lot of hauling in a 2017 tradesman dodge 2500 diesel, and I love the truck. It is the first diesel I’ve ever used, and for hauling long distances and often for work, what a great machine. The engine is loud when you’re accelerating and idle. But I love the sound for the most part. Good review.
Thank you for doing these reviews. I have a Ram 2500 Laramie with CTD 800 ft lbs and 68RFE. I would love to see a review compaing the Ram 2500 to the 3500 (single wheel base) with it comes to axel ratings, frame strength, towing, etc. I was origionally wanted the 3500 SWB when I bought mine. It was between payload and ride quality, ride quality won so I went to the 2500. I may end up overloading my 2500 1-2 times per year but I wasnt willing to ride in the 3500 the rest of the year. Again, really appreciate the reviews.
Fun fact: the Zürich Opera house in Switzerland operates a Ram dualie to tow around Stage equipment. It's also the only dualie I've ever seen here in Switzerland and one of only 2 Full-size US pickup trucks :P
Great job explaining things in this video. My wife and I just purchased a 2016 Ram Laramie 3500 Diesel Dually. Wow talk about a stout truck!!! And we just purchased a toy hauler yesterday. Talk about stability when towing and the power under the hood. Hey I’m sure the detail guys love you test driving their truck through those puddles! You are job security for them!! 😜 Also that front suspension had more arms going every which way than an octopus in heat! All I could think about was all those arms equalling out to stability when towing. Thanks for another fabulous video! ✌🏽
Turned up in towing position the Ram mirrors are the best I've ever used. The magnification differences between the two types of glass are very well matched. That stupid void that Ford created on their mirror causes an unnecessary blind spot for night driving. In daylight you can see the mirror ends prior to the flat mirror but at night it is disturbing.
They've had the mirror set up like that forever. The reason why they're like that is because when you're just daily driving without towing anything the mirror should be down but when you're towing then the mirror should be flipped out obviously. I know everyone has their own opinion but those are my favorite style.
Subscribed. You are knowledgeable on these HDs. And I like how you going into detail (suspensions, frame + thickness, e-coating, etc.) on these trucks. Looking forward to a review on the 2017 Ford F250 6.2 with the FX4 package.
Thanks! Also looking forward to a review of you loading a truck camper into the bed of the aluminum bodied F250. Wondering if it'll dent or puncture it with a heavy load in the back, as well as the ride quality.
If it has an up-charge on the options side it probably has the 3.73. The dual rear wheel Rams offered it as an option, but last I checked single rear wheel only had the 3.42 with the diesel.
Big Truck Big RV I went from a 07 with no peddle lag, ton of power and such pick up it was faster then a lot of cars even with a trailer, to an 11 with so much the vehicle felt unsafe when merging or pulling into traffic from a stop sign and much less usable pulling power. I know the number say different but anyone that drove them could tell right away. The 15 is better but still a concern. If the 17 has little to no lag maybe time to sale the 11 and try a 17. Thank you for that information.
you mentioned the running board not going back for bed access. Ram offers 2 running boards, one cab length, and the other is just beyond the cab length. You can get either one, on any configuration. I have also test drove 4 different ram 2500 & 3500s and they all ride and driver different, even different laramie trucks ride different; I can only assume its different front end preloading because of a snow plow prep package.
great review!!!! great truck! for the future, you might get one of thos silver sun shades for the windshield when youre filming interior...couldnt see that well =/
Supa Doopa If you compare the big 3 work trucks, they are all about the same price range ($51-54k) with the Chevy being the most expensive. This is before any discounts and what I have found is you can can $10-14k off all of these trucks.
outstanding video. your absolutely right on the value. great price for a brand new truck. someday I'll end up in a dually. I gotta sell my Dakota first. great review keep it up! was the pricing a dealer incentive or was this Ram giving the discount?
Your videos are excellent. I'm currently in the market for a truck and you have provided a wealth of great information. I found the pricing information from MSRP to sale price very interesting. Is it safe to assume similar differences in price on other brands? I am looking at a Chevy 3500HD Diesel that builds out at about $55,000 (MSRP NET PRICE). Thanks.
I love my 2500 Ram the only issue I have is I need bigger suspension for the back I'm going to get air ride but I hear they're all the new ones come with air ride that's sweet
Love the Cummins sound, most dodge guys seem to agree. Yep, just like I said. No lag on mine which is the same as this 3500 370/800 68RFE. I like the Ford towing mirrors better. But, the dodge mirrors serve their purpose. FYI you said on the dually trucks you still get leafs, 3/4 half ton is coils...the 3500 SRW has leafs as well. But less I think.
Mac102004 Farms: agreed, the sound is great. I found that the 2016+ 3500 SRW also use springs in the rear now. Check out my previous RAM video where I show it on there.
You'll find it on the 2015's and down as well, that's what mine is (2015) just less leafs I think? 2500 are coils since....I want to say 2014? The 3500 suspension was revamped in 2013, that's when they went to the radius arms like the Ford. I've never seen a 3500 with the optional rear air bags though, not sure why.
I know this is a super old video and all, but I can explain the confusing final drive ratio thing. The "default" configuration for the 2500 and 3500 is the gas engine, which comes with a 3.73. As soon as you put the Cummins diesel engine in it you get a 3.42 instead. The window sticker lists all the default features including the 3.73 rear end, and then later shows you the 3.42 as an added feature. Good way to figure out if a used dealer knows what they are talking about... If the ad says 3.73 and it's a Ram diesel, don't expect the salesman to know anything about the truck he is trying to sell you.
I have a 2015 Ram 6.7 4x4 long bed, the biggest down fall to the Ram brand is its lack of warranty or should I say its lack of standing behind it's warranty.
no way you live in corpus christi TX?? lol I noticed the street sighs knew right away. I just bought my 2017 lonestar mega cab cummins from lithia Chrysler on staples.
I cant believe the great prices on trucks in the USA. The dodge has a great power train..have you driven the 6.4 gas , I've heard they do great pulling an RV . From what iI hear they have a good low end torque in every gear and with cylinder deactivation the fuel economy is pretty good with daily driving.
Shackles it's going depend on what your standards are. I get around 13 in normal driving and I just pulled a 7500 pound travel trailer and averaged around 8.75 or so. It towed ok for gas truck but I pretty much ran in 4th gear the whole time.
I have one with a 4.10 rear end it does great I pull a 7k stock trailer a few times a year like it’s nothing and stops on a dime with that weight and the rest of the time it’s a daily driver as far as mpg I average about 12 around town and 18 highway and around 8 towing so I guess it decent on gas but by no means is it “good” I love the truck tho it’s been reliable and does everything I need it too
The Ram is the last to offer the 6-speed manual. That is a huge selling point to me. I love my '04 F-350 PSD manual, but was very disappointed that Ford went the way of GM and no longer offers a manual transmission. I understand why, but I will always prefer the manual. I was disappointed that Ram only offers the floor shift 4x4 in the Tradesman trim. You are absolutely right on your Ram review videos that they are the best bang for the buck currently. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy one. I've almost talked myself into it! Great reviews!
Big Truck Big RV Yes, James you do lose some power, but if you like the manual it is absolutely worth it. What are your thoughts on the manual Big Truck Big Rv?
Great review! Can't wait for the longhorn! Quick question though, and forgive my ignorance, but with these new engines do you even have to plug the Cummins or any diesel in anymore when it gets colder? I love in PA so I wasn't sure.
I'm really in a situation were I don't know if I want the ram 3500 dually or the ford dually.ive had ford for long time and closest thing I've owned to a dodge was my wife Chrysler 300 she once had.me it's been ford since day one.
Could you do another video like this but of a previous super duty f350 crew cab dually xlt. And a video talking about the comfort of a f450, I hear they ride much rougher than a f350 an MPG on the f450 is lower to. I was just wondering if the ride quality an MPG is as bad a people say.
Big Truck Big RV yes please I was bringing my new 5th wheel home the other day in my 16 ram 3500 laramie swd had the exhaust brake on and was great barely touched the brake when foot off the gas, noticed 2 levels tho, on or auto.... I kept it on, would like to know more about the auto option tho.
I have. drove fine, definitely felt less powerful (is it is severely derated). With the modern improvements in automatic transmissions, there really isn't any justification to buy a manual unless you just enjoy driving one.
One thing that I am sure you noticed as well as others that watched your review was when you look under the hood of the Dodge is that the Cummins looks like it has a lot less going on under the hood and looks like it would be easier to work on than say the 6.7 Powerstroke and the 6.6 Duramax. Looking under the hood of a Ford or GM/Chev it looks like they used every inch of space they could for the engine and all the works in there. Now the 6.7 compared to the 6.4 is way different the 6.4 looks like and has the rep of being a PITA to work on, the 6.0 while no slouch was way easier to work on than the 6.4 was by a mile. The Duramax under the hood has changed but it like the 6.7 looks like a pain but seems okay to work with, but the cummins definitely looks easier to work on with room to spare, which I find surprising, but hey learn something new. Nice review. Most folks that use and have a need for Diesel while having brand loyalty, really develop a trust with the engine and their ability to pull and the torque that they require. All diesel engines have their faults but I will say this the refinement that the big three have put into their product and refinements in the engines to make them more reliable and more horsepower and torque are something you have to marvel at as they have become very impressive in their capabilities and reliability. Diesels have never been cheap to buy or own, but they are definitely becoming competitive btwn the big 3 on the various engines output and abilities to serve the needs of those who have and want the ability to pull heavy
Hey I'm look to buy a used truck to screw around and build as a project what was the first year ford started to put up fitter switches in there diesels
Jeff K I'm a Chevy guy born and bred, but I took a gamble on a new Ram 2500 tradesman almost 3 years ago. Couldn't beat the bang for the buck and have been pleasantly surprised overall. That being said, I still haven't quite gotten used to the mirrors. My Silverado, I could back up to a wall within an inch.. The Ram however, the mirrors still mess with the depth perception because of their design I think.
james dean I had a 97' ram sport and it was 230,000 kms before I changed a ball joint. it was a 2 wheel drive mind u but I can tell u those were not all highway kms
I actually tried driving with my mirrors flipped up empty and couldn't stand them. I use the convex mirrors for blind spots and love them. To me it is the best of both worlds.
I'll probably have to wait to know the answer to this question since you've already reviewed the Ram 2500, but what's the best price on the SRW 2500 Cummins? I don't think that Dodge used to make good trucks, but it appears that they're getting better and that price tag is pretty hard to argue with.
If you say so. I'm sure people know what I'm talking about though. "Warren Truck Assembly, Warren, Michigan, United States. First opened in 1938, the facility has produced trucks for Dodge and Ram for over 70 years. Near the plant are also the Warren metal stamping plant, Mount Elliot tool and die plant which contribute parts and components to the manufacture of the Dakota and 1500 series." Same shit to me.

why does dodge cheep out on 9.25 front axles with 33 spline shafts which is 3/4 ton in there 1 ton trucks? ford puts 9.75 35 spline D60s in there super duties.
Staci Moody how many times have you heard of one breaking? A front axle doesn't get used near enough to justify spinning a massive gearset all the time.
Vinny Fiorella those aren't low profile one bit but you could always get tractor trailer size tires if that would be a worry for you but you would also need to lift it and get new wheels and tires
Big Truck Big RV ahhh okay I was wondering cause you said you had the calipers but never saw anything I'll be looking forward to the next video great review
age good: according to Motor Trend: The diesel, available in three specifications, pushes the 2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 to beast mode, with up to 385 hp and 900 lb-ft of torque. The two lower-output versions of the diesel are rated at 350 hp / 660 lb-ft and 370 hp / 800 lb-ft, respectively.
I love how you're unbiased. I know you're a really big Ford fan but I LOVE how you're not the typical "Ford all day. Nothing else is even close" Type of guy. And for that you've earned a sub. :)
Mrjoecreeper; I'm a big truck fan more than anything. Thanks for watchimg
Mrjoecreeper you're 100% correct
Electric Cherry "I like Ford but they're all good trucks so just get which one you like" He's the guy that EVERYONE should be in this toxic community.
Mrjoecreeper i agree

Nice review man! Once again Im watching Ram videos:)....Love the floor mounted transfer case shifter!
TShull: thanks brother
Big Truck Big RV do you know if ram has an off-road package for their 3500 like ford has the fx4 package?
I love the videos! These trucks are a lot cheaper than I thought
Leigh Yates: thank you
Thanks for the video for the money dodge has it,thanks for your time and hard work.
Gary Campbell; thank you sir
The Cummins diesel is such an awesome engine.

Isn't competition great...that is what drove manufacturers to always strive
to produce a better truck.

How about a Power wagon review between all three versions.? Good stuff.
Glad to hear they finally gotten rid of that throttle lag. It's been a problem since 08.
davisnneal: the trucks I drove definitely didn't suffer from pedal lag. Seems like a big improvement even over the last few years.
Big Truck Big RV
I went from a 07 with no peddle lag, ton of power and such pick up it was faster then a lot of cars even with a trailer, to an 11 with so much the vehicle felt unsafe when merging or pulling into traffic from a stop sign and much less usable pulling power. that Cummins tho..... puuuurrrrrr. BTW love your camera work, great to be honest.
Geez Joe: thanks brother....I try to show what others don't..
im an f150 owner and have no need for a that much truck but wow thats a great deal on one hell of a Ram.
great review!!!! great truck! for the future, you might get one of thos silver sun shades for the windshield when youre filming interior...couldnt see that well =/
pnut555: good idea.
New favorite truck channel, tks for new video.
sandman 62 same
sandman 62: thank you
Even though I found the lower trim Ram interiors to be the worst of the big-3, $43,000 for a brand new 4x4 diesel dually is hard to beat. Good review.
Supa Doopa: thanks
Supa Doopa If you compare the big 3 work trucks, they are all about the same price range ($51-54k) with the Chevy being the most expensive. This is before any discounts and what I have found is you can can $10-14k off all of these trucks.
outstanding video. your absolutely right on the value. great price for a brand new truck. someday I'll end up in a dually. I gotta sell my Dakota first. great review keep it up! was the pricing a dealer incentive or was this Ram giving the discount?
Dakota TRX4: most were dealer incentives. Great place to buy a truck!
I’ve had my 2017 dually for 2 years and didn’t know I could fold the tow mirrors down..
Great review
I have a 2012 Ram 3500 and agree the tow mirrors are better out. I always leave them out.
Thanks.
Does the RAM have the set up for dropping in a fifth wheel, like an Anderson, etc.?
can you review the g56 transmission since nobody has made a diesel manual truck since 2010
I love my 2500 Ram the only issue I have is I need bigger suspension for the back I'm going to get air ride but I hear they're all the new ones come with air ride that's sweet
Mario Bajac: not on all, it's only optional
I learned about the mirrors when my dad got one..from there on I stopped judging lol
Aldo Torres: exactly what happened to me
Love the Cummins sound, most dodge guys seem to agree.
Yep, just like I said. No lag on mine which is the same as this 3500 370/800 68RFE.
I like the Ford towing mirrors better. But, the dodge mirrors serve their purpose.

would you trust this truck to pull your Rv safely because of price might have to go with ram instead of ford superduty?
I have a 2015 Ram 6.7 4x4 long bed, the biggest down fall to the Ram brand is its lack of warranty or should I say its lack of standing behind it's warranty.
would you trust this truck to pull your RV safely I prefer Ford but cost might me go with a RAM?
no way you live in corpus christi TX?? lol I noticed the street sighs knew right away. I just bought my 2017 lonestar mega cab cummins from lithia Chrysler on staples.

The Ram is the last to offer the 6-speed manual. That is a huge selling point to me. John hey John, by choosing the manual option on a truck, do you lost some HP?
No
james dean: yes you do. You drop down in both HP and Trq.
Big Truck Big RV Yes, James you do lose some power, but if you like the manual it is absolutely worth it. What are your thoughts on the manual Big Truck Big Rv?
Big Truck Big RV they say it's because the clutch can't hold it, I don't understand why they don't upgrade the clutch to handle the extra power.

Dear Santa.
does this price include towing package?
How much can that one pull?
It would be cool if you did a video on how exhaust brakes work on pickups
Factory New Garbo: there's an idea

Where are these trucks for sale at that 42,900 price you mention?
How much would you pay for this one today... 6 years later? Obviously, with the typical mileage for a 6 year old 2017.
Have you driven a manual version with the G56? If so what was that like?
I have. drove fine, definitely felt less powerful (is it is severely derated).

Daniel Tojcic he's said he'd start doing half tons
With all money being spent on this trucks. Surely Dodge could come up with a better mirror set up.
Frank Contreras I've had no problems with it. You will never make everyone happy
To each his own.
Frank Contreras I prefer the dodge toe mirror over the others
Frank Contreras I prefer rams mirror set up
i like the dodge mirrors
Ram 3500 dully is a awesome truck.
Back up camera?
I see guitar centre on your right. Do a review on that !!!
raybbj: haha, seriously....maybe a drum solo just to show ppl how diverse I am
OMG that truck sells for $160,000 here in Australia for that price we get 3.2 liter ford rangers its enough to make you cry!
badass truck
Hey I'm look to buy a used truck to screw around and build as a project what was the first year ford started to put up fitter switches in there diesels
Joe Pennington: they've been an option for a while. I believe since around 2005
Review on the 18?
Do you think you would ever do a review on a 2017 ford raptor?
Cole Rader: planning on it.
I agree with you about those tow mirrors. When they are down it's tough to adjust to them, compared to when vertical.
Front end going out yet ???? ball joints ??
james dean I had a 97' ram sport and it was 230,000 kms before I changed a ball joint. it was a 2 wheel drive mind u but I can tell u those were not all highway kms
I actually tried driving with my mirrors flipped up empty and couldn't stand them. I use the convex mirrors for blind spots and love them. To me it is the best of both worlds.
dam fine truck!
even stock and at idle that Cummins definitely sounds like a clatter daddy
The dodge will always have the best engine
Dominic Valentine miss the 318ci
is that the 5.2 v8?
Dominic Valentine yes...that thing was bullet proof...so to speak
It's the 6.7L I6 Cummins Turbo Diesel
Dominic Valentine hemi
I'll probably have to wait to know the answer to this question since you've already reviewed the Ram 2500, but what's the best price on the SRW 2500 Cummins?
I don't think that Dodge used to make good trucks, but it appears that they're getting better and that price tag is pretty hard to argue with.
I really don't care to get into semantics.
If you say so. I'm sure people know what I'm talking about though.
"Warren Truck Assembly, Warren, Michigan, United States. First opened in 1938, the facility has produced trucks for Dodge and Ram for over 70 years. Near the plant are also the Warren metal stamping plant, Mount Elliot tool and die plant which contribute parts and components to the manufacture of the Dakota and 1500 series."
Same shit to me.
John: good question, just posted a video on that last week about the 3500 SRW, which is the same price pretty much as the 2500
the beast...
rene B-rod Raul Martinez Dodge pick up truk
How many pounds can this truck tow?
Dodge 1/2 and 3/4 tons have rear coil springs??
Andy Miller: even their 3500 srw trucks now
Not a bad deal but you could probably wait and get a used one with more features and options for the same price, just a lil miles on it.
as a general rule , only pay not more than 85% of MSRP. that is a good price. what's wrong with it?
BIG JOE 245: nothing. just a great price
When are you loading the longhorn review?
John cena Day care: hopefully in the next 48hrs
I totally agree with MrJoe.. but i was already a sub
Get the Asin transmission.
Where is that truck for sale ?????
They seem to be more expensive where I'm at.
Let me
Know, I am looking to buy one
icutemall: Lithia RAM in Corpus Christi TX. I have the phone number at the end
I wonder when they're gonna change the look on these trucks...
Viktor Step maybe in a the next two years last change was done about 6 years ago
no ud contact your local dealer while buying a truck at a sports store with a spec sheet on the window
the mirrors are so small in the RAM
Could you do a review on a tundra
Nick Ferderer: sure....on my list sir
Word of caution if you do follow through with this request. You may just end up trading your Ford in for a Tundra after test driving it.
Are these still available with a manual gearbox?
TX Camper yes
Will 2016 tail lights fit on a 2017 Ram?
Haleigh Ann yes
Coming from a Ford 6,0 To my 16 Ram, the cabin is WAY quieter as far as engine noise.
RobShutt357: yeah, I don't doubt that. The 6.0 and 6.4 was much louder than the 6.7
Good Video Well You Did Make Seven Traffic Errors.. Typical....I Just Watch, So I Know What I'm Up Against... My 99 F350 7.3 With Hughes transmission, gear vendor double overdrive. 3.73 Air Ride
I'll Run, You All .. Just Getting, Started AT 100 MPH... with the Michelin's..see you in Texas..I love your state... I ran 100+ MPH For Over An Hour And A Half. .Love Texas...18 hr NoneStop GA To AZ
The Corp Gov... Can Keep The DEF Piss
Can you review the new Ridgeline?
snomass1 haha he only reviews real trucks i think youre shit out of luck
gooseontheloose12 yea I know. Just asking. At least the ridgeline is a smooth ride.
Why do you think Dodge and it seems only dodge has a neutered transmission
I wish I can buy a new truck at those prices
why does dodge cheep out on 9.25 front axles with 33 spline shafts which is 3/4 ton in there 1 ton trucks? ford puts 9.75 35 spline D60s in there super duties.
Staci Moody how many times have you heard of one breaking? A front axle doesn't get used near enough to justify spinning a massive gearset all the time.
Look at that you can actually see the pavement when looking at the engine ! I bet you can't do that with the Ford or GM .
No rear ac vents :(
Jonathan Montes: pretty sure it has them
If you're towing a 5th wheel, order it with the factory hitch and save yourself headaches.
is the Asian transmission better then the 68rfe?
Much better. 68rfe -- 70k miles they were going. You need the Asian if you want to haul the 30k.
KarasCyborg I just don't know why ram doesn't make just one transmission like Ford does.
Why do they put skinny tires on duallys?
Vinny Fiorella causes there 2 and not enough for wide ones tractor trailer tires aren't wide
I'm sorry I meant height wise. Like they are low profile tires.
Vinny Fiorella those aren't low profile one bit but you could always get tractor trailer size tires if that would be a worry for you but you would also need to lift it and get new wheels and tires
I prefer the Mega Cab.
Do you know anything about DEF fluid?
6speedguy84: what would you like to know?
Big Truck Big RV is it used in diesel pickups.
I know semi trucks use it to keep diesel exhaust emissions down.
6speedguy84 yes it is used in diesel pickups
6speedguy84: simple but long answer. might do a video and mention it
Thats a steal for 42k
Cheapest price I can find on the same optioned truck is around 47k
did you measure the frame?
Brandon Simons: yes, but on the longhorn. it will be in the next video
Big Truck Big RV ahhh okay I was wondering cause you said you had the calipers but never saw anything I'll be looking forward to the next video great review
Brandon Simons: I believe it was .14 or .15in
It has 385 Hp and 865 Tq with that transmission. Good vid though.
age good: according to Motor Trend: The diesel, available in three specifications, pushes the 2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 to beast mode, with up to 385 hp and 900 lb-ft of torque. The two lower-output versions of the diesel are rated at 350 hp / 660 lb-ft and 370 hp / 800 lb-ft, respectively.
this is where I got my info: www.ramtrucks.com/assets/pdf/brochures/2017_Ram_Retail_Brand_Saver.pdf
your reading best in class torque for those num. the high output paired with Aisin.
