3 in the tree is the very best but you got to feel it or you'll just locked up the gears like my old man used to all the time I learned on a three on the tree my grandfather's 1963 Chevy Impala was the last car he owned I set on his lap and he let me drive I just did what he did he died in1969 never forgot my lessons I was 9 years old and all the vehicles i owned till 1981 were 3 in the tree 69 and 70 ford truck 65 Chevrolet wagon 69 77 Chevrolet pickup never locked it up but my old man my grandfather's son every time he tried to shift it too fast my grandfather said that boy just doesn't get it but you do I miss my grandfather just this little story about a great person in my life
As a kid, I grew up in the early 1980's driving a '74 F100 with 3-in-the-tree and manual steering. At only 145lbs at the time, it sometimes felt like I was wrestling a gator😂
Learned to drive stick in a ‘72 F100 Sport Custom. 302 2v, three on the tree and everything manual. To me it’s the easiest manual there is to learn on and a pleasure to drive!
I’ve got a ‘71 F100 Ranger XLT with the 390 FE engine, all original and its the love of my life! ❤
That brings back memories of when my 1971ford f100 had the three on the tree later on I put the 4 speed in it
You tell a young guy that it has 3 in a tree and he'll look up and say which tree??😂🤣
Love the 3 on the tree. They were very common years ago. They were phased out in the mid 1980's.
That's cool I grew up driving one of them hauling hay that's where I learned to drive in many pastures .That brings back many memories. Thank you for that !!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Leave that clean survivor alone. Build the 68 instead.
Very beautiful 71 F100 Foxcast.
I learned to drive on one of these in 84-85. Had been my grandfather's, he passed in 82 and I inherited it. Clutch wasn't great. Thanks for posting.
Took more effort to working that tounge than shifting gears lol. Now that's a beautiful piece of history to put some modern love into.
I'm with you. I'm 45 and have never driven a 3 on the tree. Looked fun as hell though.
Ryan Patrick it was definitely different than a console mount
love those trucks👍👍👍👍
Love the new intro buddy. I had a 69 F100 with a bored and stroked 390 but it was an auto. I miss it.
Got a 72 if you're interested
I drove am Impala with a three in a tree. Vehicle's that shift as such are RARE these days. I'm 47 years old and that has been my only experience and I've been an automotive technician for 20 years!
Add an OD unit on the trans, power steering & disc brake conversions, Vintage Air, satellite radio, and clearcoat the paint....nothing else.
Had the same truck. Took it up logging roads past Darington wa
Three speed, was great.
Thats awesome to see an old ford 3 on a 🌲. I learned how to drive manual on one of our old company econoline vans with the same setup. Manual everything, power nothing. Brings back fun old memories. 👊🤘.
Funny. It's just an H pattern, man.
The first truck I ever drove was 3-on-the-tree. My first car was also a 3-on-the-tree. A mercury comet. It's what I learned to drive in.
First truck I drove was a Bumpside like the one in this video, but it was an F250 long bed with a 390 and an automatic.
I love driving a manual transmission
I drove lots of 3 on the trees back in the day 👍
Actually my friend the street name was called three on the tree this is how I learn driving standard at 42 Acre Farm with a 1970 Ford 150
My mom & dad a 54 Mercury Monterey with a 239 ci with a the three on the tree
I learned on one with the 300 I6. It was fun.
I'm like you - I've had a bunch of Fox Mustangs and Capris with four speeds and five speeds, and driven all kinds of other manually shifted vehicles, but I was older when I drove a three-on-the-tree for the first time. And I liked it so much that I bought it - 1977 F150 long bed with a straight six.
That '71 is sweet! I could tell it was a six when the starter cranked.
First thing I ever learned to drive was a 3 on tree at 13 years old!!
First vehicle I ever drove was my grandpa's 84 f150 straight 6 with a three on the tree when I was 9 years old. He got rid of it when I was 12, I want to drive one again!
I had a 71 same color 360 C-6 automatic i put power steering on it..bought it in 89 sold it in 99..wish i had kept it..
I have a 72 for sale
I learned on my Dad's 79 Ford with a "3 on the tree". That truck was the Bane of my existence for awhile. So when i finally got it and was doing good he got rid of it and got a 98 s10 5 speed. I seriously thought he did it just to mess with me.😂
68/70 f100 ranger fav truck!!! This is gonna sick!!
Nice job! My first stick shift was a 1968 F100 Ranger with 3 on the tree that I bought from my Dad. I grew up with that truck. Then I bought his 1961 F100 he sold a long time ago. He thought he would never see it again, but we found it. It also had a 3 on the tree. I had never driven a regular manual transmission until I started working at Carvana. Great Video!
I bought one in summer 2020 with a three on a tree. There is nothing quite like it, and nothing as satisfying as a inline 300 with a three on the tree. It's just magical once you settle into it. I'd drive yours to California and back if you paid for the gas. Those tires are just fine. No joke, call me out? Please!
I got a bone stock 100% complete '71 last year.Base modle, radio delete with a 360 three on the tree.A 360 has 390 heads etc.Mine is light green with stock rims and hub caps long bed.I"m going straight Smithsonian on it haw haw
I use 3 on the tree videos to help me sleep at night as my white noise, along with engine noise.
Now you should try a 4 or 5 speed on the column... and I’m not kidding!
Looks like a light seafoam green. Awesome old truck!
Memories of the ol 67 fairlane I had... ugh wished I had it or another one damn it man.
its teal, had my 67 for over 30 years ,same options only mine was ordered with power steering,YEA ,have the org motor,352 sitting in corner have a early 302 motor, and MARK 4 air DAMN GOOD OLD TRUCK,could of sold it many times,a keeper to hand down to one of the kids
Our station truck was a 69 F100-3-tree.....390V-8 longbed.....kinda the truck that Charlie Bronson used in "Watermelon Man"..........was very cool chase scene......
My friend had a 68 bronco 302 three on the tree... that was a sweet ride and the only three on the tree I ever drove 👍
To get faster shifting, you can grab the shifter down closer to the steering column. It shortens the throws.
What a gem
My dad bought a 55 Chevy truck with 3 on the tree when I was about 14. That's the first one I drove back around 1981.
Cool truck should make more videos on it
My first car was a 1954 Ford Customline, three on the column.
Excellent project choice, I’m tuned in !!!
Once you get the hang of it it’s not that bad. Awesome truck! 👍
"Three on the tree"
I would love to drive that truck every day. My current daily driver is a 1985 Chevy Chevette. I hate new vehicles.
Got a 72 F100 for sale....need my boy gone to a better home. Engine is in the shop getting stroked to a 445. 3 on the tree, FE390 block Ford rear 9 power brakes and steering, best for any gearhead. Someone get my truck, lost the motivation.
Is it still for sale?

I wish I could give this video a million views and 2 million likes🤣
Thatz a nice Truck Bro.👍
Haha!! I just had my first experience a couple weeks ago! Bought a 61 Falcon!
I LOVE THESE TRUCKS. IVE HAD A 67, TWO 69, 70, AND 72. THEY ARE DEAD SEXY. GETTING HARD TO FIND IN THIS CONDITION.
Bumpsides are THE BEST Looking pick up truck of the 1960s and 1970s.
What I took a little skill to do a race stand with three on a tree tagging it out top of the first sliding your foot onto the break by holding the threat love this video Man Killer and don't forget Dodge vans Chevy vans and Ford vans in the 60s have the same device three on the tree
I learned on a 3 on tree slant 6 69 Dodge dart
Cool I have a 72 f100 Ford
Nice work shifting. Smooth. I wouldn’t want to attempt it. 😬
Leve it alone just fresh it up
Nice vroom vroom
I had a 1980 f 150 3 on the tree. my daily for 10 years
You need to take the wife out on a nice date in the old seafoam green truck!!!
I learn how to drive on a 1975 Dodge D100 three on the tree slant 6 them trucks are a piece of equipment like driving a tractor
How much for the dash pad in the parts truck I need one
i'd keep it just like it is,except for the drum brakes.
So many f100 coyote swaps
Those drive better if you double clutch it. Basically falls into gear and old school brakes work better when you pump them.
Great video! I have 3 foxbody's mustangs now but, my next project will be a 67-72 f-100 short bed! I will be watching! ;-)
After the f100 swap how about a 90's ranger with a coyote for your next truck swap!
So if you guys can send me a message did they change the transmission from 1970 to 1971 because in a 1970 Ford F100 pull towards you and down was first year pull towards you and up with second gear but 3rd gear on a 1970 push and push up reverse on a 1970 with push out and pull down did they change the transmission am I forgetting 3rd and reverse and opposite direction if I'm wrong I a minute but can you please help me tell me if I'm wrong and right where do the different Transmission in 1971 my father's F-150 had a 302 or do you have a straight 6 in that Ford
I learned on one in a 79
Keep it as-is. Put that Coyote and slushbox in the junked out 68.
It’ll be sweet! Are y’all keeping it a manual? Obviously not on the tree. Or just throwing a f150 coyote and trans in it?
Again German what was the most dangerous thing between 1967 and 1974 Ford trucks they put the gas tank behind the seat if you had a bad crash at the tank ruptured gasoline would cover you and the entire cab remember the tank behind the seat before they put it inside the frame in the bed
Did the gentleman Learning Tree on a tree sometimes it was necessary to double clutch it clutch it wants to take it out of gear clutch it again to put it back in gear how's that for a tip I'm a farm boy in Connecticut
is there supposed to be that much slop in the shifter?
I have driven a 3-on-the-tree. It's not difficult.
Does the F-100 use the same transmission as the Bronco?
Leave the back bumper
Coyote 6 on the tree lol
That needs to be done
That’s would be funny as hell
What size motor?
Crown Vic frame swap that baby
The first thing he should have done is go in reverse so that he would have known where exactly it was.
FYI heck of theft protection 3 on the tree most poop for brains dont have a chance🤣😂
Now that's a good millennial anti-thef devise
