  • BEST Bambu Mod! AMS Riser! DO THIS NOW
    www.printables.com/model/5574...
    This is a detailed review of the X1 Carbon 3D printer from Bamboo, renowned for its high-quality, high-speed printing capabilities. The reviewer emphasizes the printer's ability to print consistently with an Automated Material System (AMS) on top, particularly when using PLA material. However, due to the enclosed nature of the X1 Carbon, it's recommended to open the door for ventilation while printing with PLA, especially if the AMS is in place, as this helps prevent jams caused by heat build-up affecting the hot end's temperature control.
    A key part of the video is the introduction of a 3D printed shelf designed to sit atop the X1 Carbon, allowing for better ventilation without removing the AMS or opening the front door. The reviewer successfully printed this shelf using Polymaker PolyLite PLA, noting the impressive bridging and overhang capabilities of the printer, even though some minor imperfections were present. The shelf uses unique bow tie butterfly connectors for easy assembly.
    The review concludes with the assembly and successful installation of the shelf on the X1 Carbon, demonstrating its utility and compatibility with the printer. The reviewer expresses a personal connection to the hobby of 3D printing, sharing their enthusiasm for creating functional parts and enjoying the process, especially during the holiday season. The video ends on a grateful note, thanking viewers for their support and encouraging them to engage in hobbies they're passionate about.

    I decided to go with the BLV - AMS Riser, because it also got two drawers. With that I got all the extra stuff, and spare parts for the printer, out of the boxes, and into the drawers on top of the printer. :)

      @Void-in7yl Před 4 měsíci +4

      I also went with the BLV-AMS Riser. It requires supports, takes a lot more time to print, and uses a lot more filament. However, I believe that it is worth it if you have the resources as you end up with a far better looking riser along with extra functionality. You can also install LEDs and a TPU seal directly into the riser which comes in very handy.

I noticed when printing it for fun to give to kids and people for joy, I recieved joy as will. The minute I get people asking and "kindly" demanding things takes a toll and ruins the fun. Especially when it fails to print... Curse you 3D printing god!!!... Anywho, it's always a blast to get full functional print. I've been on the fence printing the bambu riser. @@matbroomfield I'm saving up for an X1C and will get it soon. One of my concerns with this mod would be noise, I imagine the printer would be a lot louder with the top glass wide open? Not sure though. The mod is interesting but yeah I will try the printer with the door closed first

    • @matbroomfield
      @matbroomfield Před 4 měsíci

      @@SangheiliSpecOp I've never had a problem with the door closed. Bambu just released a new driver that allegedly reduces print noise by about 15%. There is also a box you can print and attach to the back that reduces fan noise. If you are sure to keep the AMS lid closed, that also reduces noise. I'm very sensitive to noise and I run it in another room, and it's still loud enough to stop me falling asleep, although if I leave my PC on, the white noise is enough to mask it but sleep through.

    I've been looking into the different ones you can print, but if it already hasn't been mentioned, you'll need something to stand on to change out the filament. The normal height of most work stations or counter tops is 36 to 38 inches. If you have your printer on something lower than this print should be ok. But even in this video you can see how high it is above Joel. Thanks for the vid. Cheers!

      It really depends on your local climate. I live in Virginia, and my printers behave way differently in the summer than in the winter. Room temperature, humidity, etc. In winter I need to run my Enders in a closet behind plexiglass for prints to stick. In summer, I need to pop the plexi out and run a fan over them or prints will warp. I bought my X1 in November, so I've only seen it work in winter. It's amazing how much a few degress of room temperature and a few percentage points of relative humidity will mess with print quality.

      There is a few different mods, while they dont easily switch from the spool to the AMS, you wont have to move the tubing. Its a Y-splitter that allows for another line of ptfe tube that goes to the spool to be fed into the printer as well. When I printed this, I did need to buy a ptfe tube kit with the adapters and clips and such in order for it to work, but it works so well, i'm glad i did!

    How does the temperatures hold up?
    I'd guess there would be slight temperature drops, since there will be small gaps between the plastic and the top of the printer, as well as where the glass cover rests.
    But if so, how big of a difference is there, if any?
    Thanks.

    Agreed. We got into the hobby to print stuff. Then my brother said, you know what, we can make a product that can sell. We don't have affordable Model rocket kits in South Africa. So he designed 1. 3D printed nosecone with laser cut parts. And with the anti-plastic straw campain, access to 6 and 8mm cardboard tubes for launch lugs. The rest is history.
    We do a STEAM workshop since 2012, and no, the world didn't end. And this year it was accepted as part of the school curriculum. Now we just need to educate the educators on how it benneffits their students to build a real rocket and go fly it.
    So print the things you love, and have an awesome 2024!

    My P1P (and other printers) runs most days, all day, just for fun things for myself. 700 jobs over 8 months! I love this hobby. I'm traveling in Feb, to trade off a DIY printer I have $4k invested in, to a business, who is giving me back a similar sized printer KIT, just because I enjoy the process of building up printers and I want to do it all over again. It's just my jam.

    There is one for the K1 Creality as well Joel, any chance showing that as well even though it does not have an AMS ?

    Cool and all, for anyone that wants to save time and filament you can just put a pencil on either side of the lip that holds the glass, drop the glass back on and put the AMS on it- the resulting 5/16" or so gap is enough to keep the heat down. Or use PLA+

    I did the original version of this first after getting my P1S upgrade kit, it's really easy to print and to set up. Though I ultimately went with the BLV AMS riser cause it looks cooler and has the drawers and build plate storage.
    If you want something a bit easier and with way less material than the BLV, this is the way to go for sure.
    And remember everyone, the best reason to own a 3D Printer is to print things for your 3D Printer ;)

    I have the Hex AMS Riser, that allows you to add honeycomb wall to both sides of the printer and add all the things to tidy your table

    One idea to improve it further. Create a frame with the same dimensions of the glass top, make it so there is a fine computer mesh in the frame for a dust filter so when the glass top is venting you can still keep dust out

    What are the tell tale signs that you need more air movement when printing PLA? I.e. what signs would help us know that we should be opening the door, or removing the top lid? Most of my PLA prints are fine. We assume some of the stragglers will be there from time to time. But I am curious to what to look out for? Thanks for the video, I may still try this mod. However, I would like to be able to explain the reason for this mod a bit more in depth?

  • @DavidHyman031

    I haven't had that problem with pla yet, but my garage is relatively stable temp wise. I do have high humidity (over 60%) so I'm always worried about leaving filament open to the elements due to water absorption
