For some client websites, using Wix just makes sense. From my point of view, Wix is just another tool that web designers can use to build out simple client websites.

Wix had its own market, with that being said, to create more complex, intricate, and distinct website, market will always need professional who know what they are doing.

I had prejudice, and I still do in Wix case, but I used Elementor on a small project and it worked very well (and fast)

i think he also brought up a good point with wordpress; about how purists used to hate it back then, just like wix is hated now. Yet at the end, wordpress has become the norm.

I totally agree with you. I'm a developer and have dabbled with Wix and used it the way you described. My coding skills are weaker on the front end so I'm more interested in how I can hook a Wix site into a SQL database. Thanks for the info

There still is a learning curve with these builders and business owners just want the result and don't have the time to sit down and create everything thenselves.

Great video. I would like to say that wix has also added coding support (Wix Velo). So you can basically add your own custom code to wix websites.

These templated websites are easily spotted out. Also, you won't see coders using inmotion; it has zero API.

I like to think long term. I.e. this website could keep evolving and being added to and have new features and requirements for 10 or 20 years or maybe forever. To use some platform like that could mean having to throw it all away and start again if the provider goes out of business. It is too risky and a bad business decision IMHO.

From your perspective, what you're saying makes complete sense.
But from a small business ower/operator whom does not understand this stuff, and with how many people out there simply trying to make money, it creates a real resistance. The business owners dont want to be take advantage of, so a trust issue is raised. So many techys talk too much technical terminology, and mislead the business owners. This word gets around, fear increases, and so people use such teccnologies as Wix. Easy to use, can do it by ones self, and no misleading by some developers. And charged ridiculous prices.
      I am speaking from experience.
But, i am slways open for a friendly, intelligent discussion.

The typical Full Stack Wordpress Developer, Don't know how to differentiate PHP files or read/Code PHP but can install themes and plugins!
This is the problem they devalue real skills. To make matter worse they work for minimum wage salary.

I like them guys cos I make a living correcting the mess they leave behind. Some of their code look like what u learn from newbie books and full of security problems. Even Microsoft trains up guys from Mathematics, psychology etc for developer roles. But they will never be as food as a software developer.

Okay, can you create a solution, that is cost effective, and useful to small business clients?
If not, it is a reason small business owners use platforms such as Wix.
I have friends whom are owner/operators and dont trust web developers because they dont talk at a level that is understandable and clear. They also charge crazy prices like $3k to $6k for websites that are not huge. "That's the market rate", are among "reasons" given.
I have provided services for people for free, and the value has definitely found its way back to me. People focus far too much on money, and not enough on possibilities and growth. Provide value, value will come back to you. Has worked for me. :)

Comments on this remind me of the comments about various languages.
They are all tools, nothing more. Don't get emotionally attached or disdainful, it will stop you becoming a professional who can make the best decisions for your clients.

I'm not a pro web developer yet, but I do wear a hat of a small business owner. Many will continue to choose WIX over bespoke, because it's an economic decision rather than based on choice. IMHO it is important to remember that being a designer is of equal, if not of more importance, than being a developer. Personally, I'd be just as interested in designing a WIX project if that's what a client wants as long as my time is being paid by client. A colleague of mine recently paid around 5KUSD for a site that was designed using WordPress. As far as I'm concerned she paid too much, because the website took too long to be delivered (over 6 months) and doesn't look like it's been created by a professional. And this is key point here, these are just tools to get job done. Many people will attempt to DIY and due to lack of design and development skills will run into problems & will look for a Web developer to sort things out.

Ironacly i decided to specialise in Wordpress development. What i do is create my own Wordpress theme from scratch and use it as a framework for my future clients.
This way i can use Wordpress as a cms and its plugins ecosystem while still be able to expand and built custom webapplications.
Which i doubt will be possible for Wix sites. But nonetheless i can imagen cases where Wix could be usefull. As said in your video small simple websites for small companies.
