- Today Architectural Digest is welcomed to Malibu, California by Emmy Award-winning actress Sarah Paulson for a tour of her sophisticated and cozy 500-square-foot beach home. Paulson acquired the property nearly a year into the pandemic, transforming the quaint but generic surf shack into a tailor-made retreat with the elegantly understated housewares of Nickey Kehoe. “The ocean never called to me. I’m the person who’s afraid there’s a shark in my bathtub.” says Paulson, star of the upcoming horror film Dust . "But the beach was stunning. How did I live here for so many years and not understand the beauty of the coastline?”

Nothing inspired about this, just privilege, nothing second hand? Nothing "vintage" SP? Idk why this has pissed me off so bad! Name dropping, why? Trying to expand thee artisans wallet? How refreshing to see a smaller living space from a celebrity. I know it is not her only home, so that is not within the reach of many people, but it is still so nice to see that she chose to add a vacation/retreat home that has a smaller footprint.

Sharahs main house is only a 2 bedroom, and one is her dressing room! It's also very minimal, warm, inviting, and LOTS of light. Eg. one wall opens up completely to the garden and pool (which the old one was built and she found it, so she put in a new practical one. She has wonderful taste.

What feels like three lifetimes ago, Sarah and I were both students at LaGuardia High School of the arts on the upper West side of New York City. She was, of course, a drama major, I was a vocal major. We had a few classes together as I recall. It was such a big high school, Sarah was a friend. Always had a really good soul. A fine person. And obviously she was a gifted actress, even back then. I always recall that we both skipped the disgusting lunch and would spend time in the library. I’m so happy for all her success. So well deserved and earned…

That's the difference between a concept and a theme.
She's right in that you really should be surrounded with your favorite color. I really, really like how her home isn't a white box. But it is filled with beautiful color, great textures and amazing natural light. And the thought that she initially moved there because of how happy her dog was to be walking on the beach is so sweet.
I agree, and I'm kind of disappointed we didn't get to see her dogs.

The space has such a lived-in, unpretentious quality to it. So wildly unique and eclectic, just like the owner. I also love how every piece in the space is storied and meaningful to her.

@@19cosmo91 I think the issue particularly to barn doors is that they were always a bad idea (they are not functional as doors and have such a strong COUNTRY aesthetic that does not mesh with most modern designs) that continuing to use them after the trend has passed is not just rapidly outdated but ridiculous. I stayed at a "private" Air BnB that was not a rustic or country-designed space with a huge barn door as the "door" making the space "private." There is nothing private about 2-inch gaps between the door and the wall (because of the barn door tracks) and the absolute lack of soundproofing or a lock. 😅😅

It actually feels so fresh to have a huge celebrity, showing you don't have to live in opulent mansions, that luxury can also just be cozy, manageable, and in an amazing location that makes you happy!!

the entire cashmere blanket cuddling with the dogs sitch is where it's at, and because she cherishes those things, my long held assumption that she's one of the best humans on earth is 100% true without a doubt.

did not expect a beachside malibu home from her at all. but as she explained each room and it’s function it definitely coincides with her personality and even her “at home” way she’s dressed. I’ve definitely seen interviews of her but she’s always just a bit more polished or poised. this seems so relaxing of a place and calming, definitely matching the way she speaks and flows thru her home. loved it

Ooh, this is the best one yet! Every time I see celebrity house tours like this I feel like I’m only getting a glimpse of the best part of the house because it’s so big they can’t fit everything in just a minutes. I love that Sarah chose to show this property. It’s a tiny house and she gets to show the entire space and talk about her design choices. You can tell that she loves this tiny house so much by how passionate she talks about how she uses the space with her dogs. It’s not flashy or fancy; it looks so cozy, inviting , and normal? 😂 I know she’s a celebrity but this episode makes her relatable. And how freaking gorgeous is she in this hairstyle?!

This little beach house is gorgeous. I don’t think I would change a thing in it, except for maybe a little bump-out to hold my books and media. And I could be very happy living there until I drop! And I’ve loved Sarah since Down With Love in 2003…she’s terrific in every role she plays. 🙂❤️

Here it is evident of her natural warmth and gentleness, and it shows in the things she has chosen to enhance her living space. Every thing is quality without being over done or cluttered.
