- The Ferrari 308 may have been shadowed in the 1980s as headline supercars like the 288GTO and F40 began to emerge. But it had an important job to do.
Featuring exclusive rally footage, this film covers the brief competition heritage of the 308, and takes you through to the latest 488 GTB, which shares more than just its acronym with the '80s legend.
Motoring presenter, Paul Woodford continues his series of classic motoring films with classicsdriven.co.uk, and explores the story of the 308 GTB that you won't have read in the supercar Top 10s on the internet.
Featuring rally footage from the UK's leading rally TV show, Special Stage Rally Review. Visit www.specialstage.co.uk for more #RallyTV.

Most beautiful car Ever ... Still today it stands out in any parking lot.
Wow. you crushed this video. 10/10. nice job!
This video was excellently done. Great work!
Nice vid! My Dad used to have one just like that in the same colour. He sold it for £10,000 we all know have much they fetch today...:(
F***ing brilliant! How can this guy only have 4k subscribers?
Give this guy a job on TV he's a natural
Watched many 308 vids but this one has a certain class to it. Well done good sir!
This is by far my favorite Ferrari body style ever. Even if I became rich enough to afford one of the super cars this would be my first Ferrari purchase
Good stuff. The 308 is a classic and this was a cool reminder of how it has influenced Ferrari and its cars over the years.
Really nice review Paul! Nice history, shots and layout and you are an excellent presenter! The 308 is underappreciated I think and performed the same role the Boxster did/does for Porsche. It was fun to see Ferrari's wink to the 308 with the 488GTB. The 308 is a great car, east to maintain, great looks, fun performance and handling and immediately recognizable as a Ferrari. We love ours! Thanks for the fun video, Franny
Well done man! Loved your review
just got lucky to get a 308GTB QV, 7k miles one owner! Your video inspired me to finish my search after 20 years!
Awesome video man!
Paul.....you need to get yourself onto TOP GEAR, your presentation skills are superb! I too am a big Ferrari fan but sadly missed out on the 308, going for the later models of V8 engined cars.
Well done! We need more of this type of accurate reporting, move over Rory at Top Gear.....there is a new and better kid in town!
Still my dream car since I was 10
Gorgeous. Love the 308 in that blue. Must be extremely rare!!!!
I was thinking not 5 minutes ago that the 308 is one of the most beautiful car designs ever, then this video shows up in my list. CZcams GET OUT OF MY BRAIN!
EXCELLENT Narrative. Entertaining and Informed. Nice job!
Great work!!
Great video, still the prettiest Ferrari ever made. love the Magnum reference with the faster Pontiac GTO, i remember that episode as well.
Still one of my favorite cars, a lovely flat plain crank V8 'howler'. Looks great in blue.
Definitely one of the best looking Ferraris. It has quite a timeless look to it.
well presented. I liked this. love the 308!
Top video. Regards Bondy ( Australia ).
Well done!
I've driven a couple of different examples of these...top fun...and once you get the revs up, it flys
Not just magnum Pi but I remember national lampoons with Christie Brinkley
Beautiful...
The car and the video.
Nice. I have the twin. 83 Euro GTB Blue Sera / Crema
Very nice and now, Gotta watch again!😋
awesome review of a great car
Good video report of this iconic motorcar! Love the simple style of the video too.
Thank you for this nice video. One comment, the GTO was never meant to participate to the group B rally championship, there was a group B circuit championship considered at the time, where the GTO would have been able to compete with cars like the Porsche 959. It's a shame it never happened...
I watched Magnum PI too as a kid, for me it was the ultimate sports car . . . Well until I learned about its shortcoming regarding its Bosch K-Jetronic CIS injection system, which would just spray fuel continuously in its intake manifold and that too at a wrong angle. Guess with a proper injection system, not the one from the diesel gate, it could deliver over 300HP to the wheels!
To me, it is the best designed car in the world!! One of a kind car that will endure very well the test of time and in my opinion will be worth an astronomical amount 20 years from now!!
It’s what a sports car should look like!!❤️🙌🏻
Nice little film, I never thought of a 308 as an 80s car, the carb versions came around 1977, I always saw it as a 1970s car that went on being produced till the mid 80s.
chris mac If you count the 328 it went well into the 90s
I subscribed 2 minutes into this video! Great host!!!
So well produced... you are REALLY good on voice overs. Thats it... Im going to get an English accent. LOL. Well Played , Good Sir...
308 design never getting old.
My favorite dream car!!!
Thank's Paul, for the real good comment.
Magnesium wheels?
Nice video! But. The 288GTO was never intened for rallying, but for the Group B racing series. That never took off at all, as opposed to the rally series.
He has a Richard Hammond style to his narrative.
Great video, but you barely hear the engine...
Thanks for all the views, shares and comments on this and my other films. I do appreciate it.
If you enjoyed this, you might also enjoy my new film, featuring a very different mid-engined sports car...

Lovely, and so much better being in blue rather than red. Is that really the rev counter needle? Looks like a small pencil...
My dream ferrari
With an iPhone, fair play Paul !
lol lost to Lego, I love both companies soo no hate. I had no idea ferrari had a rally stint goodmvideo, informative :)
The only Ferrari I would ever care to own.
A very beautiful car that one
A great presentation.
The 308 a timeless classic and a beautiful car. I LOVED the 308 GTB/GTS range.
The new Ferrari's are engineering feats but unfortunately, their time honoured class and pedigree is now almost gone.
The striking looking LaFerrari takes your breath away, but it is NOT beautiful.
V8 Range Today - I like the 488 GTB but then came the 488 Pista, the twin turbo F8 Tributo and SF90 Stradale . . . All in about 4 years !!!
The 458 the last of the naturally aspirated V8's and beautiful sound to match was the true heir to the beautiful 308 GTB !
THIS is my favorite Ferrari. the GTB with the deeper chin. I'd love to have one but will sadly never have the money or means. :(
I'll take the 308 GTB, the 208GTB, or 288GTO. sure the newer ones are nice, but this/these are classic
What a fine automobile, if I do say so myself
best looking Ferrari
Pontiac made a limited run factory body kit of the 308 for the Fiero called the Mera.
Sam The Multimedia Man probably better built this thing is hideous.
Richards Hammonds twin brother, I feel like you talk exactly like him lol :")
@Eddy Jean lols!
6:08 Is that front left wheel broken??
repairdrive valve cap 😬
Bellissima!
My favourite Ferrari of all time. Probably because it was the first one I knew about. Great video and great presenting. How did the owner feel about it being returned caked in mud though?
Racelinekarting thanks for the comment - the owner was actually with me and did most of the driving you see in the film (shhhh, don’t tell anyone - I don’t have a film crew!).
He was strangely delighted, and for that alone he remains firmly one of my real-life motoring heroes.
Paul Woodford ha, well he only had himself to blame then 😂 seriously though, great video. Just discovered your channel as having a Ferrari 308 lockdown day on CZcams. Driven a few Ferrari’s but never lucky enough to get in one of these. I looked at one for sale 20 years ago priced at £27k. Oh how I wished I bought it now! I have subscribed and will check out your other content.
Racelinekarting yes - it’s certainly a cool car! Thank you, appreciated.
Top demais 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Magnum P.I. Forever❤️
Beautifull car
Nice report, very well done. If you want to pronounce Quattro Valvole more gracefully you just have to leave the accent where you also have it in English: on the 1st "a" of vAlvole.
This video is called a car review, but unless I missed something, there's not a word about what it's like to drive. There's plenty of info on this car on the web. Some insight into what it's like to drive would have been a lot more worthwhile. Oh well!
for me this was more interesting as I have watched reviews of the car and how it drives
I always thought the c4 corvette had the 308 in mind
Lego makes Ferrari's, but Ferrari don't make Legos...enough said.
exactly what I was thinking!
They cant use 2 seated supercars in the wrc anymore because of the strict rules, thats why i prefer rallying in the 70s and 80s with the group 4 and B. The Ferrari was actually used by privateers in both group 4 and group b, so about 8 years.
the body style is similar to the demotosa pantera or however its spelled
if you mean the Detomaso Pantera, they are totally different. The Pantera have the charm of cinderblock compared to this Fioravanti master peace.
yeah thats what i meant, debatable, i agree the earlier pantera is not great but the later one is good, this is kind of boxy and no offence but the pantera would leave this way behind...
The testarossa is the 80's Ferrari!
Surely the testarossa is the Ferrari of the 80s?
Nice video Paul. Love what you've done there with the 308. (I've got a 308GTB)
Try and check out my new car channel if you can.
Damn lego
Carb ones much more characterful and 255bhp
kram namwen 255 hp was a myth. The early carb 308s were probably good for 230 hp at the crank. The later ‘79 and ‘80 US spec carb 308’s were less powerful, perhaps 215 hp.
I heard my 78 carbed 308GTS was 205hp. Hard to believe its now 40 years old.
Good for its day, but times move on. Pretty though.
What's simply red reviewing a ferrari.. Geez times has changed
It is Ferrari´s 911.
Back when Ferraris were cars and not spaceships.
Same with most cars though
Lego is op
Poorly researched story. Ferrari did not have a brand issue. It enjoyed one of the strongest brand identities at the time, just as it does today. And no one cross shops a Ferrari and Lego.
Also, the 308 was not entering a net new product segment as it replaced the 246.
Who writes the garbage that comes out of his mouth? Ferrari didn't need to "build a brand" in the 1980s - they already had one by then. You see, they already had the most-successful F1 team in motor-racing history, they made the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, the 250 GTO, the 250 Lusso, the LM, the 250 Testarossa, etc. etc. etc. The 308 was the ONLY model that Ferrari made that attempted to comply with the new Pollution-control laws of the United States, along with crash-safety standards. Things the British did NOT care-about early on.....
I'll buy that puppy for $1,000.
Bla bla bla
Nice skeleton of a video. But please put more meat on the bone. I.e make video longer. The GTB of today is 200k plus, hardly for an everyday driver. Come on man you have skills. We need more meat on bone.
What’s he talking about 🤷♂️. You can’t drive lego. 🥸
The ugliest Ferrari ever.
