Someone get Rip on Joe Rogan. PLEASE!
Alex Minor don't hold your breath... Ain't gonna happen.
Alex Minor rip might have some things to say about toilet paper and starting strength but he's not likely to be informed enough about (or care about) anything else that would make for good conversation
He's pretty entertaining as he speaks his mind, has a scientific background, lifted with and has interviewed many of the great weightlifters of modern times, and was in on the early days of CrossFit. Also, ornery and smart make for interesting answers.
Alex Minor we need Ross Kemp first
why do I recognize the name Ross kemp?? Also I remember when steven Crowder told joe he needed to have mark rippetoe on (when joe asked why crowder said crossfit was a bad way to gain strength)
9:10 'who has a gym?'
Alan doesn't raise his hand xD
Someone should ask a question and start it off with, "Hi, Tom here, he/him, my question is..."
"what motivates me is probably anger" Rip
Based on his response to vegans i feel Rip is what you’d get if Ron Swanson were a weight lifter
To answer the last guy's question, it isn't that Rip hasn't tried to explain the basic ideas of strength training to the masses, he has. He has written, spoken, and lectured about it for more many years. Strength training takes hard work. It is far easier to be a "supple leopard" than it is to deadlift 2.5 x your body weight.
nobody wants to lift no heavy ass weight
Why didn't Alan raise his hand when Rip asked who owned a gym?
I'm here because of Allan thrall. Thank you Allan. Train untamed!
I see him on the right-hand side of the screen
is that alan thrall in the background
Throws Bear
Sure looks like him!
Yes, it's him :D well spotted
hard to say its another strong dude with long blonde beard and hair
I am preparing myself in order for Uncle Rip to podcast to a 1.5 billion population market.
In reference to the last guy who thinks there should be marketing....Facebook, instagram, youtube, the SS website with forum, digital books available in amazon.....if you cant find starting strength then you probably haven't been looking.
Jason Moyer , yeah but the book looks like a mathbook, dry and old. If it was high color glossy and a shredded 8 pack guy and a hot yoga girl explains everything... well on the other hand ther is Rip. Get my point? But rip will not do such a thing, because its cheap and he is no sellout.
+JackDaniels002 that would attract impresionable, stupid people, wich can not understand the program, as previously stated.
Drimo Dramo that may be true, but even if they only look at the pictures and never do the progam. They at least buy the book.
Same thought, those people who can't find ss are just people that haven't really been looking seriously. You can always find a way to look for the best source out there especially on the internet
The SS website? You mean the Daily Stormer? /jk
18:33 Book i've lost: _Strength Training for Football_ (or similar). Author: NFL strength coach. ( name/team forgotten.): Book's photos demo-ing power-cleans, etc: Herschel Walker. A guy who claims he never lifted, properly demo-ing power-cleans?
Did Austin get up to flip the TP?
Personally, I prefer Starting Strength being what it is now over it being taught to the masses. People that are in search of strength will usually sift through the crap and end up discovering Starting Strength. (Why broadcast it anyway? So that it gets pissed on and taken for granted?) What the fuck do I know, I'm just a guy that likes to lift... Thanks coach Rip
Noble Devil basically what happens on r/fitness.
Noble Devil Money.
To reach a broader general public, you'd have to advertise the program as a super-fast weightloss or muscle building system. But that would defeat the entire point of this program. I came to it by having failed to rehab my back using multiple other methods. SS method, or the program, was the only thing that effectively helped. So if you could get more people like me, average Janes and Joes, who suffer from back pain, to test and experience your method, you'll have a very broad and a very grateful public. because, who is interested in strength, not good looks primarily (it comes along too, but it must not be the primary purpose), who is interested in strength except a) weight athletes b) people in need of rehab? Pretty much nobody, at the moment. You can talk to other athletes till you're blue in the face, they won't believe you. People in need can only understand it.
This is a good point. Hard to understand for most people...how does putting heavy weight on my back make it feel better? Ask Rip
The app is awesome and now I am actually doing the program 100%. Fuck yeah
Because it would be a waste of his time. To try to teach those already "smart" people that what they have been doing all along is WRONG. And even though he can prove it to those individuals, they have already accepted the fact that anything different from what they have already been taught, is bullshit and not as effective. Besides, Starting Strength isn't really anything hidden or hard to discover. I've noticed more and more people actually say they have heard of mark rippetoe and his methods. The problem is that the fitness industry is a business. and businesses care about one thing. and that one thing isn't making you so strong and fit that at some point, you will no longer need their bullshit supplements, personal training, and shake weights. And btw mark didn't reach out to alan thrall. Alan already had some experience with the lifts and read the book, and then took coaching with austin baraki.
Joel Campuzano yes, right. He posted the reference book list way before he joined the seminar. Plus, as u said, Alan already read SS.
Issit just me or he has a spitting image of King zog from disenchanted?
Great observation
Icing the balls huh? The only icing I'm prepared to deal with is the icing on my cake.
I love how Austin just leaves again when a controversial topic comes up at 17:30 like last time with the global warming 😂
all the head shaking from the others as well
Global warming is only "controversial" among the science-denying ideologues and the ignorant.
Ha! I knew that icing my testicles each night was a good idea! I have finally been vindicated!
4:18
So the business kind of has a linear progression👍
Last dude's question is essentially, "RIP, if Starting Strength is so good, why isn't it more popular and why aren't you literally going door to door preaching the gospel of SS?"
People are stupid and lazy. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. To what extent should one extend themselves to get their message to the world? RIP wrote a book, has a podcast, uploads very informative and free videos to CZcams, is certifying SS instructors, and likely other things that I'm not even aware of. What else would you have him do? Fart unicorn dust out his ass? Dumb question that even the dude asking had a hard time articulating.
Yeah, but "Lots of people who are intelligent enough to understand the concept are unaware of the concept". No shit... intelligence does not imply a lack of ignorance.
yeah. I miss the wall. kept a lot of idiots out. damn you Hasselhoff!!!
this has to be one of the finest circlejerk communities in existance
Train untammed!!
I think you are getting advertising requests from all the second degree sources. Your name is mentioned on the Jocko Podcast, Tim Ferriss, etc and those guys either don't advertise or have aggressive ad pricing. Again, people asking means you have a devoted following. Big battle to Mark's approved Kettle bell. inside joke.
Rip got mentioned on the jocko podcast?
3:52 I see you Alan over there in the right corner! ;)
balls in ice? lol wow.
Alan Thrall. 2:20
1:15 sounds like stefi cohen lmao
It’s definitely not her. She wouldn’t be coming to a SS seminar
I hope they start editing these
Question about leg length discrepancy. 11:22
startingstrength.com/article/leg-length-discrepancy
I have a 2" leg discrepancy. The discepancy increased more as I got older over the years. I have a lift in the shoe on the shorter size which helps during normal day to day functions, but there's still balance issues when squatting. Mainly because the lift is not taking my whole heel because it doesn't fill the entire back of the shoe.
Also with deadlifts using one shoe with a lift, the knee of the longer leg still juts out more than the other.
This means it's my femur that is longer.
Trying leg press with a lift in the shoe is better than no lift in the shoe, but I always get pain eventually in the abdominal area on the side of the shorter leg.
I have just read Ripp's article about leg discrepancy and saw what he says about not using a lift only. I'll buy some lifting shoes fit for purpose and take them to a shoe repair.
I don't think it'll help with squats but with deads you can put your longer leg a bit behind your shorter one. I've seen Klokov doing it.
Cor Huisman I'm in the middle of a recovery week, fried my nervous system on Friday, completely burned out. I'll be trying the toe line of the longer leg 2" (the amount of discrepancy) behind the shorter one on Monday. Looking forward to trying it. Hopefully the knee on the longer leg isn't protuding as much or not at all. It's seriously weird trying to deadlift with one knee out more.
I hear you about the squats but I'll give it a go when I have a shim to see if I have the strength in the posterior chain to compensate for any unbalance. I know I don't have the stability with just a lift, but with the more stable shim and the toes on the longer leg a bit behind the shorter leg I might catch a
break.
You should get more ss coaches in Europe...
narrowcasting bullshit? was he referring to rip not wanting to train vegans?
just a little salty
You paid a lot of money to go to these seminars. A lot of people watch these. Can we stick to pertinent questions? it seems like half the time, people are just trying to get Rip to go on a bender. I am saving up to go to one of these. I won't waste my time asking about Hillary Clinton, climate change, vegans, testicle dunking, or crossfit just because I'll know the answer will be funny. Great trainers and a medical doctor have your full attention. Do something with it.
Everyone has to come up with 3 questions. The problem is that they have done 100+ seminars, so most of the questions anyone is likely to have are already addressed in the rest of the weekend. The seminar is very likely to cover anything you have to ask.
So people have to come up with silly questions instead.
Matt Moriarty Well Ridley Scott movies are an obvious exception.
Joshua Worsham this isn’t the full seminar and you aren’t going to get all the juicy stuff for free. I’ll bet the people at the seminar enjoy the light hearted segments seeing as these are full 3 day seminars.
Try to just listen to these in the car on the way to work and you’ll get the gems you just have to wait for them.
Good for you for being a doctor too 🙄
ancient Chinese secrets, huh?
Y vegans tho
he's just salty. you'll gain plenty on peas and rice and benefit from the program just fine
keeping the testicles shrunk into the body does increase testosterone by a little bit, i know russian weight lifters take freezing cold showers before heavy lifts
The Russian method makes sense cause the adrenaline yur body releases in a cold shower. Idk about t but I woukd be curious
cold showers are healthy in the morning; it's better than coffee
Last question was stupid
14 losers concerned that the industry is experiencing an "Enlightenment Era."
Thumbs up 👍 if u spotted ALAN THRALL ON THE VIDEO
To those who want the guy at the end to shut up, you're sheep. Rip has been waiting for you fools to help him solve this problem - he never claimed to be an expert at marketing.
Last guy is not so smart, is he?
Drimo Dramo well, he's right. With a program as efficient as the LP, everyone trying to get stronger should be running it, and they arent. Something needs to be done to change that.
Martin, people are L-A-Z-Y... very few people want to put in the work it takes to get outcomes. This applies to most things in life, we can't be great at everything, we pick and choose. People want 8-minute abs, not an 80-minute session along with proper caloric intake. No, that's too much work. What bothers me more are the trainers I see at various gyms I go to, who are nothing more than professional adult babysitters. They just stand and talk to their clients, who don't even break sweat. They're typically on a BOSU ball, with a 5-lb plate trying to do a sit-up, accomplishing nothing.
BROis youre right, people are lazy, but not everyone is. Some "unlazy" people out there really try to become better at whatever theyre doing, but cant because they dont know how. That is why more people need to hear about ss
You're right, thankfully SS is gaining in popularity...
Seriously, the last guy was trying to challenge everything and I can tell he's the typical "smart ass". Anyways, back to the topic they were on. It's true that most people in the world don't give a fk about strength and their passion about the knowledge is limited. Imo, if you are really interested in something you will always find a way to get more knowledge and info for it. It's not like"oh, I don't get those info cuz those info are not on New York Times or tv or what so fking ever!" All Rippetoe can do is to try his best to promote the knowledge on different platforms like CZcams , podcasts and other stuff. It's not Rippetoe's responsibility to make everyone out there to know what strength really is.
The last guy should really get the fk out and stop talking shit.
