    To answer the last guy's question, it isn't that Rip hasn't tried to explain the basic ideas of strength training to the masses, he has. He has written, spoken, and lectured about it for more many years. Strength training takes hard work. It is far easier to be a "supple leopard" than it is to deadlift 2.5 x your body weight.

    To reach a broader general public, you'd have to advertise the program as a super-fast weightloss or muscle building system. But that would defeat the entire point of this program. I came to it by having failed to rehab my back using multiple other methods. SS method, or the program, was the only thing that effectively helped. So if you could get more people like me, average Janes and Joes, who suffer from back pain, to test and experience your method, you'll have a very broad and a very grateful public. because, who is interested in strength, not good looks primarily (it comes along too, but it must not be the primary purpose), who is interested in strength except a) weight athletes b) people in need of rehab? Pretty much nobody, at the moment. You can talk to other athletes till you're blue in the face, they won't believe you. People in need can only understand it.

  • @joelcampuzano9916

    Because it would be a waste of his time. To try to teach those already "smart" people that what they have been doing all along is WRONG. And even though he can prove it to those individuals, they have already accepted the fact that anything different from what they have already been taught, is bullshit and not as effective. Besides, Starting Strength isn't really anything hidden or hard to discover. I've noticed more and more people actually say they have heard of mark rippetoe and his methods. The problem is that the fitness industry is a business. and businesses care about one thing. and that one thing isn't making you so strong and fit that at some point, you will no longer need their bullshit supplements, personal training, and shake weights. And btw mark didn't reach out to alan thrall. Alan already had some experience with the lifts and read the book, and then took coaching with austin baraki.

    Last dude's question is essentially, "RIP, if Starting Strength is so good, why isn't it more popular and why aren't you literally going door to door preaching the gospel of SS?"
    People are stupid and lazy. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. To what extent should one extend themselves to get their message to the world? RIP wrote a book, has a podcast, uploads very informative and free videos to CZcams, is certifying SS instructors, and likely other things that I'm not even aware of. What else would you have him do? Fart unicorn dust out his ass? Dumb question that even the dude asking had a hard time articulating.
    Yeah, but "Lots of people who are intelligent enough to understand the concept are unaware of the concept". No shit... intelligence does not imply a lack of ignorance.

    Question about leg length discrepancy. 11:22
    startingstrength.com/article/leg-length-discrepancy
    I have a 2" leg discrepancy. The discepancy increased more as I got older over the years. I have a lift in the shoe on the shorter size which helps during normal day to day functions, but there's still balance issues when squatting. Mainly because the lift is not taking my whole heel because it doesn't fill the entire back of the shoe.
    Also with deadlifts using one shoe with a lift, the knee of the longer leg still juts out more than the other.
    This means it's my femur that is longer.
    Trying leg press with a lift in the shoe is better than no lift in the shoe, but I always get pain eventually in the abdominal area on the side of the shorter leg.
    I have just read Ripp's article about leg discrepancy and saw what he says about not using a lift only. I'll buy some lifting shoes fit for purpose and take them to a shoe repair.

    • @kwhuisman
      @kwhuisman Před 7 lety +1

      I don't think it'll help with squats but with deads you can put your longer leg a bit behind your shorter one. I've seen Klokov doing it.

    • @jackcarter6629
      @jackcarter6629 Před 7 lety

      Cor Huisman I'm in the middle of a recovery week, fried my nervous system on Friday, completely burned out. I'll be trying the toe line of the longer leg 2" (the amount of discrepancy) behind the shorter one on Monday. Looking forward to trying it. Hopefully the knee on the longer leg isn't protuding as much or not at all. It's seriously weird trying to deadlift with one knee out more.
      I hear you about the squats but I'll give it a go when I have a shim to see if I have the strength in the posterior chain to compensate for any unbalance. I know I don't have the stability with just a lift, but with the more stable shim and the toes on the longer leg a bit behind the shorter leg I might catch a
      break.

    You paid a lot of money to go to these seminars. A lot of people watch these. Can we stick to pertinent questions? it seems like half the time, people are just trying to get Rip to go on a bender. I am saving up to go to one of these. I won't waste my time asking about Hillary Clinton, climate change, vegans, testicle dunking, or crossfit just because I'll know the answer will be funny. @brois841 Před 7 lety

      Martin, people are L-A-Z-Y... very few people want to put in the work it takes to get outcomes. This applies to most things in life, we can't be great at everything, we pick and choose. People want 8-minute abs, not an 80-minute session along with proper caloric intake. No, that's too much work. What bothers me more are the trainers I see at various gyms I go to, who are nothing more than professional adult babysitters. They just stand and talk to their clients, who don't even break sweat. They're typically on a BOSU ball, with a 5-lb plate trying to do a sit-up, accomplishing nothing.

      Seriously, the last guy was trying to challenge everything and I can tell he's the typical "smart ass". Anyways, back to the topic they were on. It's true that most people in the world don't give a fk about strength and their passion about the knowledge is limited. Imo, if you are really interested in something you will always find a way to get more knowledge and info for it. It's not like"oh, I don't get those info cuz those info are not on New York Times or tv or what so fking ever!" All Rippetoe can do is to try his best to promote the knowledge on different platforms like CZcams , podcasts and other stuff. It's not Rippetoe's responsibility to make everyone out there to know what strength really is.
      The last guy should really get the fk out and stop talking shit.
