Thank you for sharing the video. hope more people actually learn more about actually history, instead of blindly agreeing to anything & everything that's propagated.

Lyth Ng What makes you think this is real history?
If I may, I would like you to think about this:
Operation Cold Store was a open secret. Almost everybody then knew about it. But yet, they only voted for 13 Barisan members into the Parliament. If they could vote 13 oppositions members, they could vote out the PAP. Why did they not vote out the PAP?

Ang Teck Huat The same problem we have now. Now that they have destroyed all the viable leaders, who are we left with? Even if we don't like these leaders, we need someone to head the country.
Also if you refer to the eleciton results,PAP only won a minority of the majority vote.

@@angteckhuat8209 Let's turn your ridiculous assertion on its head. Suppose Lee Kuan Yew, Toh Chin Chye, Devan Nair and Rajaratnam were arrested. Set free Lim Chin Siong, Lee Siew Choh and a few others. Would people still vote for the PAP? Don't make me laugh, goes to show many of these PAP apologists have cotton for brains... That's why Chan Chun Sing said cotton is from sheep.

Must admit that Dr. Thum's sense of humour makes this a very enjoyable presentation, if quite dense at times (probably due to my lack of contextual knowledge).

One thing that is not clear to me is how the Special Branch seems to be under the direct control of the PAP Cabinet? I was under the impression that internal security in Singapore was run by the British all the way until independence...

Dr Thum, thanks for the vid, a very informative historical snippet of Singapore's early
life-and-death struggles against the leftist radicals in the birth of a modern nation. LKY's brand of take-no-prisoners politics was forged early on which had guided him henceforth ever since he cut his teeth in fighting the pinkos who, in hindsight, would have doubtless stymied the breakneck pace of development of the city-state, had they been left to their devices. Historians in the future would have more to debate the merits of Operation Spectrum than Operation Coldstore.
A minor critique on form if I may -- the only fly in the ointment in your presentation if you will is your ceaseless ambulating back and forth before the audience as you spoke if you were doing laps in pool, that I find in no small degree distracting.
    Best to you.
    Lester

Ang Teck Huat What a strange and nebulous question! I suppose you aren’t posing a rhetorical one here. Indeed, the same could be asked, why did the PAP capture every general elections since its inception? Now, if you are not implying some fraud was at work in the past, then it is just your personal tendentious read on historical events. It has been said history is merely an ideological construct laid down by the victors, subject to occasional rewriting by revisionists. Dr. Thum, unlike most historical dilettanti, has invested time and academic efforts in his subject of interest. I would need to do a PhD myself to vouch for the total veracity of what was presented in his vid. But short of doing that, I am nothing loath to accept history at its face value -- it is not for nothing that we apply the term historian to address someone as such.

“I’m not saying that everything I did was right, but everything I did was for an honorable purpose. I had to do some nasty things, locking fellows up without trial.”
