  • Join us today as we return from Warsaw Poland (EPBC) to Brno Czech Republic (LKTB). Forecasts called for strong cross-winds so we filed a FPL with an alternate airport..."just in case".
Well it turns out, diverting to our alternate choice was the right thing to do, after attempting two approaches in strong gusty cross-winds and deciding to opt for our alternated Medlanky (LKCM).

To clarify the “Unable” you hear at 2:45 - I am comfortable with short approaches, especially at my home airport, however on this day I chose to perform a regular pattern. I wanted to get a feel for the winds on final and how the ACFT would handle the crosswinds at slower speeds. 😊

Totally understand. I would also decline short approach with such winds

@@dkoleary88yes it helped a lot to have a better feel for the acft and take the decision to divert. Thanks for your comments @dkoleary88

Was this an IFR flight? How much freedom is there to do a flight like this in the EU?

It was VFR. I filed an alternate just for good measure but you are not required to do so for VFR flights, and I could have diverted pretty much to any other airfield open to civilian GA flights.
