  • Join us today for a flight into Innsbruck, Austria (LOWI), one of the most beautiful airports in Europe. It's our lucky day and we are landing RWY26, which gives us an incredible view over the city of Innsbruck, as we approach on final for a (very!) short landing.

Innsbruck is a beautiful city. I visited there about 40 years ago in the winter months. I should go back there in the summer, It looks magnificent.

Hiked up Hungerburg, had a nice view of the city and of an east bound airliner.

Great video! Beautiful approach on RWY26 (ha, a section of the river prior at a distance looks like the runway, wonder if a VFR flight has ever made that mistake) - which leads me to ask about the intention to land RWY08? Is that the normal wind direction or other reason?

You are absolutely right about that river optical illusion. I myself had it for a moment, since this was my first time flying into LOWI. But then you squint a bit and double check your gps and soon realise you need to fly a little longer to spot the runway. Regarding my expectation for RWY 8, the reason is very simple: when I briefed the weather on the ground Innsbruck was reporting light winds from the east.
