What are the ballasts?
A ballast is a crucial part of a fluorescent or HID lighting system. Also, it provides enough voltage and current throughout the operation and regulates the electrical current of the light once it is lit. Without a ballast, the bulb will consume too much power, causing it to burn out quickly-sometimes within a few minutes. The ballast can prevent this from happening and ensure that you benefit from the entire life of the bulb. Every ballast is designed to connect directly to your vehicle and requires NO programming or coding.
The most common cause of HID Ballas failure is long-term use, which can result in flickering, dipped beam not working, or light failure. When having problems, you'd better replace them so that you can enjoy the real strengths of HID bulbs.
The ballast is to help your lamp start up quickly. When the lamp is turned on, the ballast provides a surge of higher voltage to the lamp. This helps establish an arc between two electrodes on the lamp. After the electrode arc is established, the ballast reduces the voltage and regulates the electric current. This ensures the light produced is even and steady, without flickering or fading.

How To Replace Headlight Ballast on Audi
Hi all. I note that when I switch on my headlights my left headlight flicks on twice for a milli second (although dull) then it remains off and the dash warning is displayed. Any thoughts?

thanks for your video. I did my bulb replacements and I also took the whole headlight assembly out too. That's an alternative to having to open the wheelarch cover. It's smart though - the wheelarch cover :)

Great video, I just replaced the bulb in my 2015 A3 yet the headlight still wouldn't come on. I was getting a dash error of "Right low beam headlight / high beam headlight" The LED top light still came on exactly like in the video. Looks like I'll order a Ballast and see if that fixes that issue. The bulb I replaced was bad however so maybe it burnt out because the ballast was jacked up.

Hi, is a ballast the same as a light control module? I need a new Light Control Module and when I'm searching online all the descriptions include Ballast and Light Control Module in the descriptions so just double checking.

You always can swap the bulbs and see if they are working or not, if it's working then your ballast is gone bad.

Just attempted this and could not get the new ballast plugged in for the life of me. Specifically that shorter plug. It's like Audi purposely made it that short so you'd have to take it to them. Taking it to a friend tomorrow who works at an auto shop to wrap up the installation and hope it works. Thanks for the tutorial though!

I think you need to remove the headlight assembly, please give me some time and I will look into it how we can do it in an easy way. Will keep you posted.
You don’t have to takeoff the bumper. You do have to take out the air filter assembly which is pretty easy. Then put a mirror down below so you can see the ballast from there.

QUESTION - the LED eyebrow strip has gone out. I purchased a new assembly, but the new one does not come with ballast. My question is why did the LED go out? The assembly did have a water problem and fog problem. Is the LED out due to a bad ballast?
Led can go bad due to many reasons, in my case water went into ballast and cause a short and burned the ballast as you have seen in the video was rusted so after replacing the bad ballast it worked.

It's very easy to remove, I wish I should have shown in the video.
The reason I didn't show because I see many Negative comments previously on my other videos that why I am wasting time by showing unnecessarily things and I should show only the things which need to be done.

I just replaced my headlight bulb and it works sometimes, then sometimes it doesn’t. Does this mean that the ballast is the issue? I have a 2013 Audi A4.
If your headlight bulb is working intermittently, it could be a loose connection or your ballast is starting to fail. Thanks for watching!
@@SidhuDIY I’m thinking it’s the ballast bc sometimes it comes on but sometimes it doesn’t. It either comes on after I switch the headlights off and on or it might come on mid drive when I hit a bump. However, it doesn’t go off mid drive once it comes on. Whole hour long drive it will stay on. I ordered a new ballast let’s pray that’s the issue 🙏
Does the ballast also power the daytime running lights? I’ve had condensation in my passenger side headlight since I tried to replace the adaptive D3S bulb. Now the only thing that works is the driver side headlight. I get dash outage warnings for both of the DRL, right front turn signal and left and right main beam. Any ideas?
