This is my FIRST year of using the BTE and my veggie garden is looking fabulous! I haven't had a vegetable garden in 27 years until now. I'm sooo excited. My garden is 40 x 40 and it's 65% planted and I did 95% of the work without my husbands help. I'm too old for all that wasteful tilling and digging so I just put cardboard over the grass with a tiny bit of amending, topped it with, wood chips over heavily sanded soil and it is working! God Bless you both for spreading the word. Keep it moving forward! Thanks!

AllaroundNbackagain . I used organic gardening in the 80s based upon John Jeavons, Manure and compost made a difference in that poor sandy soil. But this method is a God send! Ccombined with wood chips is fabulous!

There's a permaculture guy who trained his pig to root through the snow and find potatoes. They always stay out in the snow, then they come up again. I left all of ours out last year bc the weather was so cold, so they stayed under woodchips, and we just added more, and they're all out there growing. Sometimes they don't come up til JULY but they're all there, and there's way more than last year. And I do what Paul said put the biggest one back, give it back to God and thank God, and cover it up with chips.
Thank you sooo much for sharing your videos-thanks to you I've discovered Paul and his amazing garden, his faith and God's goodness-it's so inspiring on all plans...I've been planting my potatoes in woodchips for 3 years now and I just can't believe in what I see :) Now I'm fighting against the pests on my cabbage using natural herb spraying, , hope it will work. I'm in Poland, so far away from you and most probably I'll never be able to see Paul's garden with my own eyes, so please, don't stop visiting Paul regularly and making those videos :) I'm sending my heartfull greetings to you and Paul

The potato variety "Prinsess" did not survive the winter in zone 4. But other local potato varieties from where i live, all came up this summer.

Paul's chickens are so central to his garden. I've looked for videos of how he cares for them but all find is that he feeds them his greens scraps and they have a chicken coop. I have no idea how to raise chickens but have wanted to for years. B2E inspires me to finally do it. I want to do it right. How and what does Paul feed them in winter? How does he keep them warm? How does he keep them safe from predators at night? How much land per chicken? Too small and I'm sure it will stink. Does he raise them from eggs and if so how? Bottom line, can you make a video of how he raises his chickens through all seasons and life stages?
Paul eats out of his garden and orchard all year long, the chickens eat the same thing Paul eats. They really like kale and he grows extra just for them. That and the rest of the garden scrapes are all the chickens eat. He pretty much leaves the chickens alone to do their thing. At night he will close the door to their coop but, the windows are wire mesh. Chickens have been surviving the winters for years without a space heater in their coops and like everything else, Paul tries to mimic what nature does. Paul does not hatch eggs, he buys day olds from Murray McMurray hatchery every few years and he lets his chickens live out their lives until they die on their own. Making a video about Paul's chickens throughout the year is probably not going to happen but, right after Christmas, send me a reminder email, Thatnub@gmail.com , and I will make a separate video when I go to his pruning class in January.

I have Japanese knotweed in my yard I know Paul recommends salt for any weeds but this invasive plant is the Godzilla of territory I can be diligent in getting it out but I need some advice on the approach or how to get started
You could try laying a big tarp over the area. This will block out the sun and rain which should kill off the weeds. On my property, I have invasive grass of some kind. I just dropped two feet of woodchips over it. Anything that grows through that is easy to pull but, very little comes through. It is harder to plant because you have to pull back all of those woodchips to get to the dirt but, it was easy enough for me.

There were two runs of the book and they both sold out. For the author to print more would cost him a lot of money out of his own pocket. He didn't make a lot of money off the first two printings because of where and how they were printed. To do a big printing would bring the costs down but, there isn't a big enough demand for the book for a 10,000 copy run. I have a question to Paul: Last year I've planted 10 fruit trees in a thick layer of chips (ab.40cm), and now there are more and more common weeds over the top (coming from the air). I'm trying to remove them every several days but should I do that? or rather to cover them with more woodchips or straw, f.ex.? I'm just afraid that if I don't remove them, they'll cover all the surface...
If all you are going to plant is the trees, add more woodchips. You could also try covering the areas with a tarp to block out the sun which would kill off the plants but, it would also stop water from getting to the tree roots. You could run a couple of chickens through that area and they would take care of the weeds. If you are not going to plant in that area, you could just let them grow and cut them with a lawn mower or brush cutter.

Would this work with newly mulched woodchips?
I started doing B2E for two years on a property that we rented in Western Washington and it worked from day one. Now that we have our own property in Eastern Washington we are doing it here two. It has only been a year and a half but, we are having good results. You cannot get any fresher than the tree services dropping off woodchips 20 minutes after they have been cut and we get about 20 loads per month on our property right now.
I really love watching the videos of Paul! He is such an inspiration and Godly! The BTE method sounds wonderful! Well, I have tired it. But somehow it isn't working for me. My plants don't look healthy and strong strong. They look kind of yellow. I didn't mix the woodchips the soil. I have tried to do exactly what Paul does. Also, there is no one who seems to know anything about this method. Nor are they interested but discourage me. I would like to talk with someone who is doing the BTE and see how it it is working for them. I have looked on the BTE map of those using this but none are close and it is hard to contact them. I am praying God will send me a contact to discuss this with!
If your BTE garden is yellow it's probably because your wood chips are not broken down enough and are taking the nitrogen from the soil and not allowing your plants to have enough. My wood chips are very new, just got them last October, and my plants were turning yellow a few weeks ago. I simply added some organic fertilizer and epsom salt to the soil around my plants and watered it in. They began greening up quickly and now look great.
Thank you for that info. I wondered about the nitrogen. The woodchips hadn't broken down much. How much epsom salt did you put down? I guess lots of this is trial and error. I am learning. I keep praying that God will show me. Paul has been doing this for so many years that he has it all down. Thanks for responding! I do appreciate it.

Thanks for your response. I don't have pics at this time and not sure how to send them. However, what I really want to know, does this REALLY work???? 2 years ago I decided to try this. We lived at another place at the time. I was so excited. I put down the wood chips and waited for spring. When spring came I pulled back the woodchips and planted. IT took a long time for anything to come up. When it did, they never really grew and the rolly pollys got them. I bought some tomato and pepper plants. They never really grew much and looked yellow! Then we moved in Oct 20 miles from where we had lived. I had no wood chips. We were so busy inside that I didn't do anyhing outside. In Jan, we got some chips from the electrical co who was cutting trees away from the lines. I was soooo hesitatent because of the 2 failures before! I did put it in a small areas and waited for spring to plant. Kind of the same thing. A relative brought some good soil in his trailer for the garden. They did NOT want me to put wood chips on my it. They thought that would be a big mistake! I did put some on the edges and some straw on other areas. But most is not covered. So of course weeds! I guess I just need to talk to someone who have been through this process and been successful. So if you have, does it really work and how did you do it?

ITS AGENT ORANGE. ITS AGENT ORANGE. Every veteran I know has heart issues and neurological issues - because of Agent Orange. Let's remember that whole war was pretty much a disaster. And every veteran has done his best - and I am thankful that they went and gave up their lives to live a nightmare the rest of their lives. I know them, I was married to a vet, I know the whole story. These guys have given up everything - now he's giving up his food? Why doesn't someone help him weed, and spread chips? What is wrong people?
