  • Paul shows us how easy it is to thin strawberries. We get to see the wasabi growing in his Back to Eden garden. We also get to witness the ease of harvesting and planting potatoes the same day.

    I started to plant potatoes that way last year. I planted 2 potatoes last year. This year I harvested 12 from 2 plants. I planted all of them back.
    I also planted tomatoes this way. I just left the last few tomatoes in the place they were and mulched them.
    I planted 100 squash plants this year. And they all died. The ones that did well were volunteers from my compost pile. I have 6 pumpkins from 1 plant! And I am doing corn this way now too. I am badly allergic to normal corn. But not glass gem corn ( which is colourful corn and can be eaten as sweet corn)

      Ben Jamin The truth doesn't change. Paul has the same basic tour every time so, that is why you remember something you just saw in a new video. The reason I keep shooting Paul's tours is because of the people. Every time, someone will ask a question that I have never thought to ask or will ask in a way that I have never thought to.

      And yet so many of the same questions (I giggle a bit hearing them). I'm sure he has one of those gardens that you notice something new each time you visit. Thanks again for taking the time to share man. I just spread a layer of 8 month old chips on my veggie beds, you just know it amazing stuff.

      @@L2Survive I’ve listened/watched many hours of Paul speaking. It sounds like he believes the Old Testament to be relevant to believers today. I’m assuming he believes in clean/unclean foods talked about in the OT. Yet he’s saying that God provides wales as food for the Alaskan people (around the 10 min mark). I would love to know what Paul’s thoughts are on God providing something as food (whale) that He didn’t design as food. If that makes any sense.

    I parked that when plants grow properly because of the fungi and bacteria plants will adjust the ph of the soil around it's roots to what they need.

      I was just saying the same thing. I would be giving my child a spanking for doing what I see some of the children doing. My husband and I are raising two grandchildren that call us mom and dad because we have had them so long and I would not tolerate them running amuck like that. I love children but this man has opened up his property and at least make the children be respectful on his property. God bless Paul.

  • @luisatupoualeamotua6024

    Hi Paul. Someone referred me this video because I was asking how to keep my strawberry over winter. You mentioned to put wood chips over it. Do you mean to cover the old plants with wood chips? There are already runners and lots of them as well. What do I do then?

    • @nathanrotar5012
      @nathanrotar5012 Před 4 lety

      When your fall comes just cover them with wood chips.

    I have planted strawberries in a well for my wife. They did really well. I didn’t use any chemicals on them. They were the sweetest strawberries I have ever had. The only problem was that when the strawberries rested on the ground, they rotted. Will the woodchips or other ground covering prevent them from rotting?

    • @jeffpearson5581
      @jeffpearson5581 Před 5 lety +1

      Yes Timothy Kelly, mulch or straw or pine needles will prevent rotting completely.

    so question. does he harvest seed from the strawberries and plant in the spring or do the strawberries come up on their own. Does he leave some berries on the ground before covering them with chips?

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  Před 7 lety +2

      Strawberry plants do not die in the winter. Even here where we got to -9 degrees last winter the new growth started when spring came. Paul did try to plant some strawberry seeds a couple of years ago but, they really didn't take. If you want more strawberry plants, wait until they start running then cut the new root away from the running vine and plant it somewhere else.

    How does this work in parts of the country where the summers get over 100 degrees most of the summer?

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Having a cover on the ground will help retain moisture, block the wind/sun from drying out the ground and help fertilize the soil with every watering or rain. Even if it only helps the soil 10%, it is still helping. I live in the desert of Eastern WA. My ground was just sand when I started. After a few years of only adding woodchips on top of the sand and watering with my sprinklers, I have a couple inches of good compost soil. Look up Tri-Cities WA temps in the summer.

    Can you ask Paul how to deal with strawberries that are eaten to the stem. I have planted my strawberry in the wood chips and it is doing great.
    However, however, in mid month of June, 2015 my strawberries are either half eaten or eaten all the way to the stem.
    Is there anything that can be done, there is nothing left for us.
    I know Paul talks about his vegetables that contain so much water that the so called pests drown, but how does that work for strawberries.
    Does Paul's strawberries get attacked as well? Is the reason the bugs or critters can't take out Paul's strawberry patch is because it is so vast?

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  Před 9 lety +2

      Mario Greco There is a huge amount of water in Paul's strawberries watch a video I did called "Two Minutes Of Strawberries" (czcams.com/video/D80EI6D8bk8/video.html ). You can see that it worked for me as well in a video called "Two More Minutes Of Strawberries" ( czcams.com/video/f1J9EFMEmpE/video.html ). So many strawberries grow that you can sit in one place for 30 minutes and not eat all of them in arms reach. If the bugs and critters want to eat them, let them. I planted mine in the front yard between the grass and the road just so people walking by could eat as many as they wanted and we will had more than enough. Give it a year or two to really spread out and make a huge patch and you will have the same problems we have.

    I love listening and watching Paul's gardening techniques. He mentioned something about the Inuit Indians (Eskimos) diet that day. I don't think it was as healthy as he states. Eating whale blubber because of where they lived did not keep them healthy. Science has shown they're life expectancy was at least 10 years shorter because of heart disease, clogged arteries and cholesterol. www.huffpost.com/entry/eskimo-myth_n_5268420 That being said, it's obvious they weren't in a position to eat differently.
