Be Resolved to Grow Spiritually No Matter the Cost - Tim Conway

  • As believers, there are times that we become gripped with such a great resolve to go further and be more like Christ. Yet to our dismay, we often will look up and realize that we got distracted and did not follow through with the resolutions we made. Somehow we got sidetracked; and our appetite to grow spiritually, no matter the cost, somehow dissipated. So what should we do? We need to believe that the Lord can and will strengthen us inwardly by His power so that we persist onward with our resolve.

Does anyone have it like Me? All my life I tend to take 2 steps forward but then a couple months or more later I take a step or two back in growing in Christ. Then one day I realize I'm falling away again and Jesus calls me back again and I take 3 steps ahead in Christ

This happens to me too. And I need to be better. I think the important thing to remember is, read your Bible at the very beginning of your day, have thanksgiving and with humble prayer and then meditate on it throughout the day, and then see how your progression is. If you are constantly being reminded through the renewal of your mind, you are stable. How then will you forget if it’s always at the front of your mind?
It is easy to forget, I’m not saying it’s isn’t. Where is the scale in your life? Is it 50% video games, tv, wife, kids, family, problems, and 50% Christ?
I could be 100% wrong on this but I just want to put this out there.

Blue Shell pray for the Holy Spirit to replace the attachment you had to transcendence. We yearn for a deeper attachment to spiritual experience. We can have this with the Holy Spirit. Pray daily, ‘I belong to Jesus’. Invite the Holy Spirit to bring you on larger spiritual joys. It’s possible. God bless you.

Blue shell ,man u got it.throughout the scripture that's what I see.
As JESUS and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the LORD’s feet listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “LORD, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the LORD answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
WAITING ON THE LORD ,SITTING AT HIS FEET AND HEARING HIM IS THE KEY

Wow that was beautiful. Today was tough for me, and the reason surely sounds very trivial. Throughout pretty much my whole life I've had very vivid dreams at night with a beautiful otherworldly atmosphere to them. 2 or 3 years ago I started trying to put this atmosphere into words and writing those dreams down. Reconstructing my dreams and mentally diving into that atmosphere became a source of extreme joy as well as heavy escapism. Some of those dreams were also sexual, but I would say that that was secondary, but still not unessential. I would often open up my dream notes and find myself in that desired atmosphere. It was like a drug.
I gave my life over to my saviour Jesus Christ some months ago. Shortly after, I threw away all those dream notes. But many chunks of them still remain in my memory. They used to be like an idol to me, and they also stirred up my pride because I got this sense of possesing the door to transcendence without being reliant on anything from the outside world. Even writing this is pulling me back into all that. But I need to get it off my chest or it will drive me crazy.
Because today it kind of did. Basically, there was a very dominant voice in my head pointing to these beautiful memories of dreams and telling me (more or less) that this is the true paradies rather than what Christ is talking about. It even tries (and sadly probably succeeds in part) to make me think that Christ and beauty are contradictions.
Somehow my mind is unable to grasp the Greatness and Glory of the Lord which obviously surpasses anything I could ever dream or imagine. But this knowledge just won't manifest itself in my heart.
I don't want to try approaching an understanding of His Glory by using the transcendence of my dreams, because they seem too intertwined with my life before I truly found Christ. I'm afraid of wallowing myself in them. But then again this evil voice is trying to infuse me with this arrogance of thinking that my memory and subconscious mind posses more transcendence than my Christian faith. It's ridiculous and confusing, I know. But it's driving me into despair.
May God's Peace and Grace be with you

Sophie Degenhardt hi, God loves you and knows your struggle, he came and saved you despite everything that you were before you met him, and that includes those transcendent experiences. The voice is that of the enemy, trying to lure you back into your old life, but that old Sophie is dead and gone, you are a new creation in Christ Jesus, old things have passed away and all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). There is no life or experience other than Christ, He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).
Please reach out to see if I can further help. Stay blessed

it just occurred to me, that the longing is as a bride betrothed, not yet married. The wedding is when the wedding is. To me this is profound, we must learn patience, he would never ever leave us or forsake us, but it is not time for the wedding feast yet. patience. we must all have patience, we WILL be one flesh, john 17, but not yet. Not yet.

Being strenghtened by God and having the right appetites is definately a remedy against being fickle.
But I suspect that the main problem in many of us lies elsewhere. It is being unrealistic about how quickly we ought to grow and especially the steps we resolve to make. I love Pastor Tim and most of his teaching. But I see a real danger here of being more extreme that God ever wanted us to be.
I am alluding to the title "Be Resolved to Grow Spiritually No Matter the Cost".
Especially young people can take that and live foolishly. If you constantly sleep too little for the sake of reading the bible you may actually wreck your body. If you have no time for people because you only want to think about God you have actually left the way of love. If you are constantly overeating spiritually that may be the exact thing that kills your hunger for the things of God.

Be discipled to become a disciple who makes still more disciples in Christ Jesus, ( Mathew 28:18-20 ). Maturity happens in the abiding relationship in Christ. ( John 15:1-8 ) We learn of this as we are discipled by one who is sent by God to disciple us in that truth. Demonstrating the exact same process that Christ used to make His disciples as recorded in the gospel narratives of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
We will not become mature sitting in the pews of a traditional, institutional, organized, post -modern, program driven church. We have to be discipled in Christ. His command, our marching orders and the good works of God. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
