    One of the best, if not THE best, depressing ending to a game. It was no illusion. It was real. The Brethren Moon said it themselves that they pitted Isaac against Carver in their hallucinations was for them to lose whatever chance and time they might've had to stop the Moons from getting to Earth. Remember, the projected psychic energies (via the Markers) from the incomplete Tau Volantis Brother Moon were enough to raise necromorphs and cause all sorts of hallucinations and dementia from light years away. Now, Isaac and Carver being quite literally face to face with 6 or 7 Brother Moons at the same time? Game over. Full stop. It'd take some industrial strength act of plot alone to save themselves, let alone Earth.

      Meh, they have civilian ships that eat planets. Whatever fun toys the military has will fuck up the moons big time. The real threat is actually the corruption turning people into necromorphs. But, mostly because the devs didn't think things through or they'd realize weapons and *tools* that can remove limbs can totally destroy a torso easily, crippling any necromorph effortlessly.

    • @volrath77
      @volrath77 Před 2 lety +15

      @@midgetydeath Nope. Planetcracking operations take years to set up before the initial planetcrack. This is canon. Even if they forgo all safety protocols and go straight at it, it still requires actively landing on the moons. Planetcracking ops do not shear off chunks of planetary bodies via tractor beams or some other fancy sci-fi means. They have to install gravity tethers to the surface. Against a static planet? Sure. Against an active hostile entity? No chance of that happening.
      As for the threat, the moons are massively psychic, stupidly and insanely so. So much so they mindfucked Isaac and Carver from light years away. So much so that the psychic emanations, 'mumblings' as they were, of the comatose Tau Volantis Brother Moon were 'converted' by the Markers (being both antenna and broadcast nodes) into what Earth inhabitants took as virtually limitless electromagnetic energy and the Markers were actually used as power sources.
      At the distances any ship's crew will have to operate before they even bring their weapons into play? They'll be subverted, mindfucked and turned into stark raving mad murderous suicidal dementia-ridden lunatics long before necromorphs popping up and slaughtering them all even becomes an issue. The moons further appear to possess FTL capabilities far above anything ever seen especially since they were supposedly scattered throughout the galaxy and yet appeared to have converged at the Earth. At the same time. At least 4 of them were seen in the ending.
      All the troubles Earth had so far were caused by one comatose moon that kept repeating its demand to be set free. At the end of DLC, at least 4 fully active ones were sighted. Perhaps there were more but off-screen. 4 or more throwing their psychic weight focusing on Earth? They're more or less Lovecraftian Great Old Ones or maybe Outer Gods that woke up and decided they need a quick snack before going to sleep again. The DLC writers quite literally wrote themselves into a corner here so unless they bring out an industrial strength act of plot like I said, or maybe the next game focuses on perhaps a surviving colony far far away from Earth, the story of Dead Space ended with the DLC.

It dangles a carrot in your face, and you ALMOST grab it, but the carrot is snatched away and eaten for you. When they (Visceral) came up with.......I believe it was an idea for a Star Wars single player game, EA bluntly asked them, paraphasing here, what's your equivalent of the Fifa golden team system (that thing where you pay to get cards to make your team in game). The moon that popped up In front of Isaac and Carver was accompanied by that yellow static filter that always happened when a hallucination occurred. Maybe it wasn't a hallucination and is just what happens when a moon is that close to you but I believe it was a hallucination. But that only happened with the last moon. So that might mean some of the Brethren moons got there and when Dead Space 4 finally happens, and it will (I will come for you EA), the game will start out with Isaac and Carver coming to earth's rescue, odds are they're either going to lure the moons away or at least push them away for a while. The plot will either be focused on getting Earth's defenses up and/or contacting the colonies that have been mentioned, OR around trying to find yet another alien artifact or recreating one that'll destroy the moons. Oh but no matter what the main plot is they'll be some Isaac reuniting with Ellie stuff. I'm just saying what makes the most logical sense, EA better make Dead Space 4 and they better make it good.

      Santiago Vásquez Gómez Having the ending be a hallucination is perhaps the most rational explanation. Because if it isn't, then the Brethren Moons must obviously have some sort of integrated shockdrive considering how fast they arrived at Earth (it stands to reason that the Moon at Tau Volantis was the closest one to Earth). Which begs to question why they would need or even want to rely on the randomness of simply throwing the markers across the galaxy and then hope that they end up crashing in to some planet that can eventually end up sustaining enough (intelligent?) life in order to both crate a new moon and/or feed the others.
      I personally always viewed the markers as an alien version of our own Voyager Spacecraft.

    And then once you realize this, you see the beauty in the irony their victory had. Life always comes back. On some planet, somewhere thousands of miles away, there will be life. At the end, maybe humans didn't win, but neither do they

      ***** I'm a huge Dead Space fan, and i'm sorry, but the series has never been better. You NEED a reason to return to the frightening jump scares, and Dead Space doesn't have any. The saga has shifted and changed from a sci-fi horror to a sci-fi epic, and is driven by both story and characters. Dead Space 2 is by far the scariest and a complete achievement, but Dead Space 3 is an emotional and tense chapter in the saga that both answers questions and raises more about the mythology in the series. I will admit, I'd like to see more horrifying moments in a DS4, but it's the point of giving a reason why. They can add a whole lot more horror to a DS4 if they set it in a different, alien setting where Isaac, Carver and maybe Ellie seek out the origins of the Markers and Brethren Moons; that would definitely add more horror, as well as story.

  • @Jynx_Splatoon
    @Jynx_Splatoon Před rokem +6

    Wanted to clear one thing up real quick, saw a lot of comments talking about this being the “true ending” or something like that to the series or that humanity is completely screwed and that’s the end.
    There’s a couple of reasons why that’s not true.
    1. This game wasn’t set to be the last in the series, it just didn’t sell as much as EA wanted and they axed visceral, if it did meet expectations, you can bet there would have been a dead space 4.
    2. The team had a lot of ideas that they didn’t use/didn’t have time to implement into DS3, probably due to corporate interference. (Look up the shadow Isaac idea that never made it into the game)
    3. Story-wise, people seem to be forgetting Isaac fights one of the moons at the very end of game itself and manages to win. I think he could do it again with carver helping him out, they also showed that the moons aren’t invincible, they have a vulnerability to cold and the alien race had a literal machine that froze one of them. Isaac built a marker before (while he was insane) I think he could manage a mass freezer (with his mental faculties restored) everyone also seems to be forgetting humans in this universe have entire ships that can crack open planets/asteroids.
    4. The moons and markers cause mass hallucinations. You can never, and I mean *never* believe anything you see in these games 100%. Even in this DLC Isaac and Carver are constantly getting tripped up by it. It’s entirely possible this is Isaac’s fears jumping out at him just like Nicole back in dead space 2. (Also, why would the moons not know where earth is when the outbreak started on the moon? Also earthgov is destroyed, who is Carver trying to contact? It doesn’t add up.)
    5. I seriously doubt they would put the ending of the series in a DLC some people might never even bother with, that just seems kinda silly. This feels more like an epilogue for setting up the next game then an ending.
    6. The series just got the remake and it changes a few key things, while hinting the entire series might get fully redone, so obviously this won’t be the last we see of Isaac’s adventures. Maybe the games will get an ending proper this time, because I really want to see how they could pull off the invasion of earth with such a cool idea.
    Imagine Isaac taking control of a planet cracker and ramming that thing into the brethren moons.
    TL;dr: No, this isn’t actually the end. People in the comments are just trying to cope with the lack of dead space 4.

    • @santiagovasquezgomez2136
      @santiagovasquezgomez2136 Před rokem +1

      I love your points.
      Honestly, I wouldn't mind humanity being defeated in this series, but the whole ending of Awakened felt a bit rushed considering the stakes in play.
      The whole DLC felt like a big ass hallucination, and I doubt everything was real.
      Also, by that point in DS history humanity had enormous civilian ships that could crack planets in half. We never saw what a MILITARY ship was capable of. Not even the Valor in DS1 because it got decimated by the Necromorphs from the inside out.
      If an engineer could kill a planet sized moon, then humanity had a chance to fight back, even if Earth was lost in the process.

Financially it actually didn't do that bad, but EA as ever want almost ridiculous amounts of profit from the games they release and making back more than the cost of the game plus some just isn't enough for their greedy asses. They bring about Convergence and the Brethren Moons, but what existed before to create this highly complex and structured hive mind is the question. That's why i personally think we should get two more Dead Space games. One to have them seek out the "real" Marker homeworld, and then a fifth and final game to have an epic and terrifying battle between the Brethren Moons, the Markers, whatever created it all, and the main characters' own minds.

    In conclusion, earth is fucked and everyone dies. Honestly I like how this dlc wrapped up the game. It's not a happy ending but a fitting end to a horror story

    Haven't you guys thought this might just be an hallucination? Seems more likely to me... At least I hope

      I did consider that it could be a hallucination which would make sense.

      @@therealjesus1317 If they are making Dead Space 4 which is likely with the rumors, I would start it off with this being a hallucination and Isaac is still asleep on the ship. They made it to Earth but the Moons are still on their way and the same thing is happening on Earth now. But this time they find a way to stop the moons. I think it may take two games to finish though.

    Given that same yellow t.v-static effect that occurs during Isaac's other hallucinations happens right at the moment they get overwhelmed by the moon, I could see EA using that as a cop-out for them to write the story so that DS4 starts off with showing the ending to DS3's DLC being just another hallucination.
    And as far as I'm concerned they can go right the fuck ahead and do it too cause I'm sick of waiting for a proper ending to the franchise. Dead Space deserved a better ending than this plateful of ass.

    And then, a Protoss star fleet came. What an exciting plot twist.

    To think the Necromorphs basically ate all life in their universe like the Gem Empire did in Steven Universe.
