    Sing with me kids :
    Lashing out the action, returning the reaction
    Weak are ripped and torn away
    Hypnotizing power, crushing all that cower
    Battery is here to stay
    Smashing through the boundaries
    Lunacy has found me
    Cannot stop the battery
    Pounding out aggression
    Turns into obsession
    Cannot kill the battery
    Cannot kill the family
    Battery is found in me
    Battery

    Kinda funny with this demo... It's not a "Metallica" pedal and not intended to be, it's a modified Tube Screamer, (they don't make any secret about that) which is one of Kirk's favorite pedals. He only uses it for leads, and only some of the time. Never ever for rhythm.
    Some of your information about how the pedal works is incorrect. Turning up the tone control does absolutely nothing to the bass frequencies of the pedal. You may think there is less bass but it's only due to the amount of highs you are adding in.

    I know this video is old but I have a Ghoul Screamer and the Paranormal II, using Gibson’s with humbuckers into a Marshall. I may need to sell one of these, which would be the most versatile to keep for for rock and classic metal and maybe some modern country. I use my SD-1w a lot.

    @mtlspider Před 8 lety +2

    unless he's selling these at prices that compete with the ts-9,sd-1 or ge-7 i dont see the point.
    a pedal used as a boost will have a harder time really changing your tone beyond what those pedals already do.
    a boost pedal lets you make subtle changes to the guitars eq and adds some gain before feeding into the amp where most of the tone and gain are added.
    you want a versatile boost? the graphic eq in the GE-7 for example is the way to go.

    So it's really more of a Tube Screamer than a distortion pedal? The crunch is all coming from a high gain head?

    • @treyxaviermusic
      @treyxaviermusic  Před 8 lety

      +Kevin Miller Antonin said the idea was to design the ultimate Tube Screamer. Most of the gain is coming from the amp, except during the clean channel portion at 4:14.

  • @JohnDoe-wj1kx
    @JohnDoe-wj1kx Před 8 lety

    So do you have to have your crunch channel on for this pedal to sound really distorted or it doesn't matter which channel you're on, the pedal will just sound really distorted?

    • @treyxaviermusic
      @treyxaviermusic  Před 8 lety +1

      +John Doe Overdrive pedals don't have a lot of distortion, it's meant for using on your crunch or lead channels. If you listen at 4:15 you can hear how much distortion it can add.

  • @AFXAcid37
    @AFXAcid37 Před 8 lety +1

    Ok, I have a question. So, let me preface this by saying I don't know shit about pedals. Got my first pedal (KHDK Ghoul Screamer) for X-Mas and I love it, sounds great. But it doesn't seem to be working now, and the little green lights won't come on. I'm guessing it has something to do with a power supply. I remember looking through the little booklet that came with it and it said that it needed a 9V power supply. I was under the assumption that somehow just having it plugged into my amp would power it... am I wrong thinking this? It seems like I probably am wrong, but wouldn't it have came with an adapter? Seems to me that if it needed batteries than there would be kind of a snap-on/piece on the back where you'd replace it, but there isn't - there's just a screw in each corner.
    Can you (or anyone else reading) point me in the right direction? There is a slot at the top of the pedal where it looks like an adapter could go, but I don't know what one to buy, or even where to buy them (Guitar Center?).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    • @treyxaviermusic
      @treyxaviermusic  Před 8 lety +1

      +AFXAcid37 Sounds like your battery is dead. You can unscrew those screws in the back to get to the battery, or get a standard 9v power supply. Most pedals don't come with one. I like the 1 Spot because it's small. The amp will not power your pedal at all. You can order the 1 spot here: www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/visual-sound-1-spot--space-saving-9v-dc-adapter or usually get one at a music store.

    • @AFXAcid37
      @AFXAcid37 Před 8 lety

      Thank you, kind sir.

    • @sheepysheep
      @sheepysheep Před 8 lety

      +AFXAcid37 As Gear Gods said, the battery is probably dead. You could either replace it by removing the lid at the back (the four screws in the corners), or get a power supply. Since this is your only (?) pedal you could keep on going by just replacing the battery, but then you should unplug the cable going into the pedal since it will drain the battery if it's plugged in, even if the pedal is turned off.
      As far as getting a power supply I'd guess a 1 Spot would do for now, but after you aquire some pedal I would recommend you to get a better one with isolated outputs. Some pedals are really picky about the power supply and will make a lot of noise if you use a cheap power supply.
      Here comes the IMPORTANT information! When you power your pedals it's four thing that you ALWAYS should check before you plug in the power supply:
      Voltage - to much would/could fry your pedal, to little and it won't work properly.
      Polarity - Most pedals have a negative center on the power supply plug, but some have a positive center. The wrong polarity will fry your pedal.
      Ampere - The power supply needs to deliver enough ampere to run your pedal(s) properly. It's not dangerous if the power supply delivers more than you need, because the pedal will only take as much as it needs.
      Current - Most pedals run on DC (direct current), but some run on AC (alternate current). The wrong type will fry the pedal.
      And to end this comment I'll leave you two tips: First, get yourself a good tuner (TC Polytune, BOSS TU, Korg Pitchblack). Nobody want to hear you tune through your amp, no matter how perfect your pitch is. Second, buy a small cutting board, throw some rubber feets under it and velcro on top and you've got yourself a simple, but great pedalboard!

    • @AFXAcid37
      @AFXAcid37 Před 8 lety

      sheepysheep Thanks for all the tips. I picked up a 1 Spot the other day and that did the trick; pedal works like a charm now.
      For now I'm content with just tuning it by ear, I'm just a 'bedroom player' at the moment. I probably will eventually pick up some more pedals though. The 1 Spot I picked up ($40) came with a daisy chain and says it will power up to 7-8 pedals. I've read that some people get some noise when they have a bunch of pedals plugged in to the same power source, but I don't plan on having a bunch (5-8) for a while. Currently saving up to buy a guitar I've always wanted, a Gibson LP Traditional, and from everything I've heard the 2016 models are really great. So I probably won't be buying any pedals or anything until after that.
      Again, thanks for the tips!

    • @sheepysheep
      @sheepysheep Před 8 lety

      +AFXAcid37 In theory the 1 Spot can power thousands of pedals as long as they combined use less amps than the 1 Spot can supply. That's one of the selling point for those kind of power supplies; They can power a lot of pedals at a low cost. It's pretty common that power supplies without isolated outputs will make pedals noisy. But for a couple of pedals I'd guess they'll do the job.
      Ah! I'll just throw in some tips for getting yourself a new guitar here then!
      - Try A LOT of guitars before buying. Just because someone loves a guitar it doesn't mean that it's the right for you. People are different.
      - Don't limit yourself to a single brand or model. (Why buy a Gibson if you try an Epi and it feels just as good?)
      - Look for deals. The 2015 models from Gibson are almost flooding the market since they sold really bad. Why? Because Gibson decided to load them with automatic tuners, circuit board mounted electronics and stuff like that. So you might be able to find a great, brand new Gibby at a really good price because of that. If it feels right and so on.
      - Shop local. Yeah, the internet give you the opportunity to shop from a store at the other side of the world. But if you need help it's better to walk downtown then sending the guitar across the world, right?

      +Elias Gonzalez Its just a tubescreamer so it'll pretty much do what the rest of them will do i would think except with all those switches taking it bit further. If you want cheaper but with similar results you could get a ibanez tube screamer, maxon 808, or even a joyo vintage overdrive if you really want the affordable stuff.

    How Cool!!!! A pedal that doesn't do anything when you flick the switches or turn the knobs once it's on. I wonder what it does when it's not turned on???? :-) It should suit Kirk Muppet perfectly.

    Is anyone else having ground issues with this pedal?

      FYI.. I bought the Dark Blood distortion.. horrible sounding and horribly noisy.. even through humbuckers with the gate set high.. not sure what was wrong.. must take a special kind of amp or rig to use KHDK pedals..

    TS-808, TS9, OCD, Timmy, DOD OD 250 these are some of my favorite ODs I own. I like to hear this pedal demoed on a less over produced video. I like to hear it with an LP and Strat and Tele. A different amp for the demo than a PRS. Who knows what other processing they used on here to take away from the true sound of this pedal. Overall I like the tone. I just don't know how it would respond to the many amps, guits and so forth I have. How would this thing work in a stacking situation is another factor. Good playing and all but, I'm turned off by the over processing I suspect went on here. Like many on here have posted, you can hardly or not at all hear a difference when the knobs were spun.

      +JACMUSTANGCAT Sounds like that would be a really long demo. There's some post processing during the initial demo (the part with the full mix) so you can hear it in a mix, but the other demo portion (with just guitar) is raw. I don't own any of the guitars you mention, I'm sure others will post demos with some of those when these pedals proliferate a bit more.

      +DeadRoman haha well I played all the same notes as he does, which actually are not all quite right, but if I "fixed" them I think it would be worse. I learned the Fade to Black leads when I was like 15 so I don't think I could change it now anyway, it's so ingrained in my fingers and brain

      +chromewarrior it's not a compressor, those switches are different clipping modes, which have different natural levels of compression.
