The way he talked about Dimebag... I have so much respect for Kirk. Even with the mindblowing success he achieved with his band he never stopped being humble and compassionate
Did you think that was real or for the camera?
Is kirk from Indonesia?
@@vodkaa1 yes, def determines whether it was sincere or for sympathy.
@@Steve-qn8gn Think its real. Hes had similar reactions talking about Cliff, and crying... He doesnt need to prove anything faking it
@@bugsandflowers7807 not sure what you mean by the last sentence, but some people use those situations to show HOW MUCH they care and go over the top. That was unprompted and inappropriate split second to almost tears and then back out to normal. Totally faking it.
100% agree with Kirk, the Dime wah is the best wah ever! So many sonic possibilities.
I remember the guitar mags of the day and their gear reviews. Went looking for my Strat after reading about it. And same with Dime wah. In fact my Dime wah was bought weeks after it was released to the public from G C. So about 2003. And it's on my board to this day. Course I suck at wah especially compared to this guy. But 200 wahs you better be good.
I really appreciate his practical approach to getting a consistent guitar sound live. Tube amps are great, but there are SO many variables to contend with in the course of a tour, I think he makes a great case for the Fractals. In reality, 99% of an audience probably couldn't distinguish between a vintage Marshall Plexi and a Peavey Bandit through a tour grade PA, so if the player is good with it, rock on. I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but I REALLY enjoyed this video - what a great guy Kirk is... so humble... I'm gonna have to start working through their discography...sounds like I've missed out...
I seriously love this guy after this interview.
He’s so intense, almost like he’s on something. He’s got this child like innocence about him when he’s talking about playing.
he's hooked on wah... and so am I
@@plutoloco2378Ha ha. Clearly you don't anything about him😂😂😂
He’s in that club that we are not in and will never be in. He will continue to eat steak and fresh fruits and vegetables while we eat bugs and GMO lab made cancer causing foods. It’s like that.
He is on something Life, living life and doing what he loves...and I think he knows it and that's why he's so humble cause their music still has an effect on the newer generation...Rock On Kirk...
man i love kirk hes the most chill n coolest guy ever, how passionate he is about his wah n dosent give 2 fs who makes fun of him cause he knows it kicks ass!!, also ik what he said with making noises to vocalize the wah, i do that but just moving my mouth no noise comes out LMAO
When he talked about Dimebag - I felt that...
It’s probably just gas.
Still like a kid, which is a good thing. And he plays with feeling, which is all that really matters.
I love Kirk, he always wears his heart on his sleeve.
Kirk has a look like he is scheming something, and is trying to let you in on it. 😏
"Hmmm... How else can I fuck over the bassist?"
Kirk looks like my drunk aunt when I ask her where the rest of the wine went
He sounds like napoleon dynamite lol
Its the face type
@@jklappenbach🤣🤣
Their new tour uses 62 trucks to go from city to city. 62 trucks.
My band used a shitty old Ford van. Sometimes with a U-Haul trailer when we were really ballin.
As a bass player it's the Justin Chancellor wah but a LARGE margin. Also love the Morley Cliff Burton Fuzz Wah.
Interviewer: How many wah pedals do you have?
Kirk Hammett: Yes.
I have an original Bad Horsie wah, first run. I still use it 25 years later. It taught me not to just swing the envelope up and down like wakka wakka wakka, the tone it creates when I sweep it slowly and stop at certain points is amazing.
How freaking cool of a rockstar do you have to be, to have your own signature series instrument, and all you can talk about is how it's not your favorite compared to one of your peers whom you admire and emulate. Such a cool cat man
My childhood hero! I never realized before how much he reminds me of Jeff Goldblum.
that's funny how he doesn't say he uses his own signature wah pedal, he's honest at least, i think it's probably the case a lot of time that players don't use their signature gear, at least not without modifications.
I'm so exited, very long story my first Wah I just order today before, seeing this video for the first time after was/is the DB01B black camo of course 🤘 I just watched another video w the Art of Guitar talking about how to use it and am already feeling the retroactive soul fire from the future 'victims' of the Amp/music electrocution ⚡🔥🔥
1:51 yeah ...we know😂😂😂
We love it too😂
Great interview, Rick
KH is an interesting guy.
Nothing to do with the theme of the video but, his hair is so pretty, like, the two grey parts in the front are so 🤏🤏🤏🤏🤏🤏
Kirk plays harmonics as much as notes.
Robert plant sang guitar nites and bends.
Expression is as important or moreso than just raw notes.
Modelers are replacing amps. Fascinating stuff!
Aloha Kirk.....MAUI needs some TUNES!!!! LOVE the talk........
Kirk almost lost it when he was talking about Dimebag and Vinnie. So awesome when he admitted Dimes wah is the best wah ever. I have Dimes wah😊
He seems a bit _sauced._ 🥃
Kirk has turned into Ralph Furley
Wow. Did Kirk start to breakdown talking about Dime? When Vinnie died it hit me like SRV and Dime. Eddie hits on a whole other level. The next day my GF and I went up to Universal City walk Hard Rock when it was still there. We grab a bar seat order a drink and I swing around looking backwards and look up.
There is Vinnie's drumkit on the WALL. I got choked up much like Kirk just seeing it.
I still have my Dimebag pick from the Vulgar tour.
Wah is the one major effects pedal that I just never managed to connect with. I like it for funky boom chicka wah wah rhythms slashes, but that's about it. I much prefer an envelope filter pedal in that regard. Kirk and the wah have become like a meme, but I like that he fully accepts and owns it. Also +1 for the Fractal. None of this finicky tube sh1t. Consistency in sound across the board every time! And it can also replace your pedal board, so no more tap dancing.
Tube shit? Eddie VH alway had the best sounds , he always used tube amps. No shit modeler is going to capture his tone .
@@greenbaysixxstring5008 Tubes are not an equalizer. But you go ahead and play your big 5150 in your bedroom. We'll be playing our modelers while you get lynched by your angry neighbors.
I am doing the same unconscious thing when I play wah, even though I only open and close my mouth 😄
Tell me, his vibe isn’t that of every middle school art teacher. I would love to hang out with Kirk!
Dude simply has the Greeny and the Dimebag Wah.
Shows you why hes amazing, he practices a lot and daily and loves it. He loves playing and thats why hes amazing at it. Take note kids😊
Not my music but Mr. Hammett sounds like a cool good guy. On another note…. wondering if that’s Greenie with the top wrap in his lap or if it’s a Gibson custom shop relic’d reproduction. I believe he still has the real deal but rarely breaks it out. If I owned Greenie it would only leave the house if I’m playing for Billy Gibbons, Kieth Richards or the Queen of England. Well..like Meatloaf sang…two out of three ain’t bad.
Please tell me that fractal model of Metallica amps is available for everyone 😊
I work in a band, I love my work.
The DB wah is the greatest wah
Looks like someone's feeling good...
Way toooo good!!!😂😂😂
Never fails. Some envious asshole has to hate and accuse someone of being drunk, or a junkie when they do an interview.
@@stratmatt73 That comment is way off. I'm sorry you got butt hurt.
I like Kirk and am not hating on him. I am merely stating that it seems he did some 'extra relaxing' prior to the interview. Nothing wrong with that.
@@foggyblues13 Die mad about it. You are either slandering someone, or poking fun at someone with an addiction. You have no fucking idea which. But I’m way off? Always gotta be one.
Kirk look like that distinguish aunt who love wine
ROFL!
I called it before I even looked at it.
Prolly should have on a vocal mic and catch all that growling and vocals while you are playing guitar. Could add a lot to the whole.
He is high as hell
He's been like this in so many interviews for the last few years.
Those shoes!
Oh yeah, The Wah...Jimi was great at making a guitar seem alive, with the pedals.
I LOVE THE WAH. I CANT GET AWAY FROM IT LMAO😂😂😂😂
Never would of guessed..
Bro I was at the Atlanta Georgia stadium got flipped of by the guitarist from a7x not synister gates I was wanting Metallica at the time
Yeah I’m a commercial guitar player, I set on the couch and watch T.V. and play during commercials 😅
Mr. Beato, I think it is a shame not to interview the true master of the wah pedal: Ty Tabor. Ty Tabor can play a Wah and use a guitar as a pedal.
I didnt know he is crazy like that
Legend! 😂
Kirk really does look and sound like someone out if a Karlof film
Fractals were awful in Arlington, Tx in August. Pure mud....... : \ (in the top two sections---went down to the second level about half-way through---sounded okay then).
You sure that was the Fractals and not the line arrays?
No@@suspicionofdeceit
And the issue wasn't the system. It was how it was set up.
Let me guess!! Either a wah, or tube screamer!
I haven't seen this video i can already tell its gonna be a wah pedal.
I told a friend of mine she needed a wah pedal for her rendition of Voodoo Child. I hope she does!!!!!
My friend would alway make fun of my faces I made playing my wah wah. I really miss that guy. Don’t do drugs guy other people will miss you and you’ll never get to see them again.
That guitar is very cool, I'd like to own it.
You've probably heard that 59 Les Paul in his hands growing up listening to the radio - and now, today, not even realize that THAT guitar is the one that Black Magic Woman (Santana's massive hit) was written on. "Don't ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer that ya want me to..." That early Fleetwood Mac song was THAT guitar. Green Manalishi, kind of a hit for Judas Priest - THAT guitar. Still Got The Blues For You, Parisienne Walkways, and twenty years of recording and touring with Gary Moore/Thin Lizzy - THAT guitar. Listen to early Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac live bootlegs, and you'll hear that guitar being played at its very best.
You can buy a decent replica of it - but it's VERY expensive. The Les Paul Standard version is not aged, and so doesn't have that vibe. You can find it by looking up "Les Paul Greeny".
@@kevinkiso4579There's also a Joe Bonamassa concert from 2013 where he plays Greeny. BTW - did you watch the full interview? Kirk snapped the headstock off greeny not that long ago. :)
@@kevinkiso4579 Oh Well.
@@zoeherriotGary Moore literally had the guitar break into pieces on him, when a car hit the back of his car. A Luthier spent ages putting it back together.
I don’t like Metallica’s music at all
But he actually seems a really nice guy with some really interesting ideas
Lovely guy who sounds like a teenage girl discussing their favourite makeup 😂
He is shy
Wah wah wah wah wah
Lemme guess 😂😂😂
I’m gonna go out on a limb
And say ummmm
Wah pedal , ? But that’s just a wild guess
If you should have found Kirk's phone keep it to yourself.
Wah
Kirk Wahmmett! 😃 (joke stolen from Ayla Tesler-Mabé)
you don't have to explain wah.. it's get-it or don't.
…is a wah.
Kirk’s acting weird as hell
How so?
Never saw him on interviews.
Is it Wah Wah? I bet it's Wah Wah.
Hey Kirk….. temperatures and people effect sound greatly….. learn it love it and you don’t have to really love it….. it is just all physics…. Probably one of the most frustrating things on getting your soundscape… my in ear monitors sound like the best stereo in the world…I really don’t know what others hear outside of that….
Really? A lesson.
I don't need to watch--I know it's a wah pedal. Don't ask me how I know.
Surprised about Kirk talking so candidly about digital modelers, nice!✊🏽🤘🏽
All I heard was wah, wah, wah, wah…
There is NEVER an inappropriate time for wah. NEVER!
Dunlap?🙄
Wah pedal duh
He’s nothing without his wah pedal. 🤣🤣😂😒😒
I think sometimes it was Kirks tolerance of the other’s (Lars and James) behaviour that makes him special…. He’s not that great of a player…
The 80's say otherwise on how amazing he used to be, especially when him and Cliff used to solo alongside another. Clearly, he knows how to play other's songs well, even clean (which surprised me as a long time fan of Metallica).
I dont know if hes like this or he has brain damage, boring all the way, pity, they have good equipment.
I play guitar watching TV too lol but guitar is second nature to me
There's a mildly drunken, Jack Sparrow-esque quality to Kirk's demeanour. Is he always like this (or is he actually a little drunk?)?
Those shoes!
Gold Guccis for the wah-wah
