Killer Croc could be such a deep villain. Think about: his backstory is that he was born with a skin condition that makes him look like a crocodile-anthro and he was abused by his aunt when he was young. He turns to self medication and kidnapping to deal with his condition. It's so sad to see him mostly betrayed as this unintelligent, strong idiot, rather than something deep
There have actually been several comics that portray croc as a deep and complex character:
Joker Asylum Killer Croc (beauty and the beast)
Detective Comics 521 and 522 (croc meets swamp thing)
Detective Comics 808-810 (back up stories where Waylon tries to cure his condition)
Batman 471: Requirm for a Killer (croc finds a home and happiness)

Some comics have a pretty interesting explanation to his origin and a good story, there even is one where he turns fully feral, almost unable of reasoning. The problem is that these great comic books about him are in minority, a shame really..

MarvelousMike that would make sense if crocodiles lived in the north. The only species of crocodile that lives in the United states that I know of lives in Florida. Of course alligators are much more prominent.

When it comes to design,lore vise the mutated-human like designs makes sense,because of the "born with rare skin condition" stuff. But when it comes to embracing the crocodile aesthetic,the anthro like designs is more fitting. And my favourite.
In the Batman Arkham series,it has both. Well,the anthro-like design appearence is dlc to Arkham Knight game,but most of the time it's the mutated-human like design

I like the first cartoon version the most, personally.
I like it when Batman's villains are less sci-fi monsters and more human. He wasn't actually a reptile, he just had some bizarre birth defect which made people call him "Killer Croc".
Making him green, adding a tail and snout, it just makes him feel more like a pastiche of the Lizard from Spider-Man.
I think the amount of sci-fi monstrosities provided by Poison Ivy, Clayface and Man-Bat are more than enough. Normally I'd say that mutants, robots and aliens are more of Superman's thing.

I found weird thing about killer croc, and that is his adaptations because in some of them killer croc looks like a person with a strange skin mutation, that in fact croc is, but in others they make him literally an anthropomorphic crocodile.

It all comes down to charachter origins. Lizard uses lizard DNA, hence it makes sense. Croc is a human with a skin disease
I really feel sorry for Waylon (AKA Killer Croc,) it's not HIS fault he looks the way he does nor is it HIS fault that he attacks people.
If you were in HIS shoes; YOU would want to eat anyone who looked at you the wrong way, threw trash at you or put you in a freak show. In short, someone REALLY needs to give Croc a redemption story

Have to say I am not a fan of Batman's characterisation in "Son of Batman".
Torture and mutilate someone who is clearly already in pain to get some information? Batman has always been a hero that walks a fine line in terms of morality but that's a pretty outright villainous action.

They literally never got his design to look like a Croc until they FINALLY got his teeth right. Crocs have messed up teeth growing from out of their lips, the Arkham games nailed this and you could tell he was half Croc just by looking at his face. They made him too human looking in the face most of the time in the animated shows.
