- Quick Tip: H&K MP5K vs CZ Scorpion Micro
Brownells Gun Tech™ Keith Ford tells us about two of his favorite guns, the Heckler & Koch MP5K and the CZ Scorpion Micro. As a bonus, he also shows us how to field strip them as he explains how each works. Both firearms started life as 9mm submachineguns and are now also available in the U.S. in semi-auto pistol form. H&K introduced the MP5K in 1976 as a shortened version of their successful MP5 subgun. It's constructed almost entirely of steel and has H&K's delayed roller lock system. (For the record, Keith's MP5K is in fact a Zenith Firearms Z5P clone made in Turkey using original H&K tooling.) The Česká Zbrojovka Scorpion is a newer design; the Micro is its ultra-compact variant. The Scorpion Micro is much lighter than the MP5K due to the extensive use of polymer in its construction. It has a simple delayed blowback system, which requires a heavy bolt and stout recoil spring to keep the bolt locked up long enough for chamber pressure to decrease so the case can be safely ejected.
The MP5K is pricier but has the cachet of the H&K name, a ton of Hollywood action movie cred, and the thunky solidity of German engineering. The CZ Scorpion Micro costs less and many aftermarket accessories are available for customizing it, including those by Magpul we featured in earlier videos. Which do YOU like better? Mp5s are sweet and I'd love to have one one day but you simply can't beat the value you get out of the scorpion in any of it's configurations. I currently own the carbine and it is one of the best firearms I own. It eats everything I feed it and it's so easy to work on.

I've got both. Love them both but the scorpion is more intuitive and has the last round bolt hold open, not to mention is a lot less and magazines aren't $75 each. One doesn't purchase an MP5 because it's the cheapest option or the best. You buy an MP5 because you want an MP5 and nothing else will substitute that want.

My heart want to love the teutonic space magic, but ultimately the CZ is the better choice for most folks, I'd say. Mags are way cheaper, more reliable, and easier to seat in the weapon. I've found the CZ to be more reliable in general across a broader range of ammunition, and it's just more ergonomic.
Mind you, the first thing any Scorpion owner should do is swap their grip for an Apex or Magpul grip, but everything else is fine out of the box with it. MP5s aren't bad by any stretch, but the safety lever needs an immediate swap to an ambi extended lever

If I had my choice of a sub-gun the Uzi would be really hard to beat. A close second would be the M3A1 but if there were Uzis in .45 or 10mm that would be my choice. I love 9mm but for a pdw, slinging a slightly heavier round is what I would go for. I know I sound Fudd as hell for those choices, but in terms of reliability, both are very strong contenders even though they leave you wanting for some better ergonomics and accessories.
You might be disappointed if you've never handled/shot either...
Uzi is a great weapon, no doubt about it. But vertical magwell and handgrip have always felt awkward to me. Uzis were available in 45 ACP. Olympic Arms used to make an AR15 in 45 ACP. It used modified Uzi 45 magazines and I knew an old Class 3 dealer that had an Uzi in 45....he wouldn't let go of it. M3A1 had somewhat slow rate of fire but were reliable. The one I enjoyed shooting was the MP40. For an open bolt sub gun it didn't jump around at all.

I just sold my Scorpion carbine to purchase a PTR 9R. Once my trust is properly setup, it's form 1 time
MP5k for the recoil impulse, Scorpion for the ergonomics and last round hold open.
Mp5K if I had the budget for it.

I want to like it. But I want something longer than a pistol barrel. Mp5 had it right at about 8 inches. More velocity, longer effective range, essentially getting as much as possible and more to the point of such a firearm.
Someone please explain to me why the MP5 is so much better than the scorpion to justify it's ridiculous cost. You really think the mp5 is THAT much better?? The quality on each is about par despite the scorpion being mostly polymer.

H&K= whole lotta steel, not alotta polymer
CZ= whole lotta polymer, not alotta steel; just the important parts xd
Cz can be easily field stripped.
H&K needs a more thorough disassembly to get the important bits out.
funny thing is that both equally will last a long time.
The only thing is that you can tact-out a cz with less money than H&K as most stuffs is proprietary in order to "mall-ninja" the shiz outta your MP5

The CZ is much more practical and a lot less money. The HK lacks a bolt hold open, and cannot accept a silencer
The MKE MP5s accept silencers. The K model like in the video has a threaded barrel and a tri lug.
I like how these guys speak normal American, sure with a slight southern accent, but at least their not exaggerating that S’uthen Twang’ and shooting up watermelons and targets and have a catchy name like “Hi, I’m Colt 69!”. I like how these guys show the product and give good information.

Scorpion micro is not an SBR. Just bought one and took home same day. Not sure putting your finger in Gun to test for round is something that should be demonstrated this way. It has an application but not how demonstrated here.
Don’t guess you were paying any attention to the video, dude. That Scorpion he has in the video has a Magpul stock on it. Also checking the chamber with your finger is correct because your eyes will lie to you. Don’t believe me, ask anyone who is dyslexic.
