    I love the mods you did. I'm building my second Simple Scout XL. I'm a snow bird. I have one down South and love the way it Flys. This one will stay up North. Next I'm building the regular size Simple Scout. They did fly nicely. I have the Mini Scout down South. It's a great calm weather flyer. That's also an upcoming build for me. Keep the great videos coming.

    Thank you for confirming what I find to be helpful on this Simple Scout...I do have a small addition that has probably been brought to your attention. The Foil tape you use to protect the belly also serves to shield communication between transmitter and receiver (brown outs). An alternate tape is recommended. Thanks again. Jim

      Yep, agreed. Thankfully I didn't have any issues here as my antennas were away from the inside of the fuse, but I noticed this and didn't add it on my recent rebuild

    Was going to scratch build a different plane but after finding the Simple Scout I have decided to go this route for the first build. I have already purchased the following gear and wanted to get your opinion on if it will work. ESC: Align 25A, Motor: Align 450S (1000kv), Battery: Rhino 3s 2200 25c, Prop: 10 x 4.7. Thanks for the help and keep up the great work

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 3 lety

      you may want more amperage on the ESC, but that should get you by. motor looks good. Battery is a bit large, this one doesnt have the space in the battery compartment for a 2200, so I would recommend a 1300. Ive got 6 of those Rhino 2200s and they have puffed on me. HK batteries in general are at the bottom of the barrel all around, but they still are hard to beat for the price. Prop looks good, however you might consider a 9x4.7, thats a little large for this plane but should be fine. Thanks!

      CustomRCMods Thanks for the response. Finished building today and looking to get the maiden in tomorrow. Have a question on the CG. The only changes I made when building was to relocate the servos to the tail similar to your build. Issue I have now is even with the 2200 battery it is still very tail heavy. I measured the CG to approximately 2 1/2 inches back from the leading edge of the wing. Thoughts?

    I have to questions. What power pack and battery are you using? And, does a higher milliamp hours on a battery mean longer flight times?

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 3 lety

      I'm Using a Power Pack B Equivalent Setup in this video, but C systems also work. Milliamp hours is the battery capacity, so yes it does increase flight time, but higher mah packs are heavier so it will make the motor work harder and make the plane fly worse. In this video I'm running a Tattu 1300mah 3s 45c Pack.

    Just got my lipo, and went to plug it in and I heard a spark sound, I jumped and unplugged it is it normal for it to spark? It is 2-4s esc and the lipo is 3s. I won’t plug it in again till I find out if it’s okay or not I don’t want a lipo fire in my house.

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 2 lety

      Check your polarity first, but if everything seemed to boot up as normal just with a spark it may just be the nature of the battery or ESC

  • @theragavelan
    @theragavelan Před 3 lety +1

    Can I use a 2200mah 3s lipo on this? if not can you suggest a beginner plane plans for that size battery?

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 3 lety

      The 2200 is a bit big for this plane in the stock configuration, the battery will hit the landing gear brace before fully inserted. a workaround is to print 3d printed landing gear instead, then you will have space. I think this is the best plane all around for beginners, I wouldn’t look anywhere else.

  • @AstorrAS
    @AstorrAS Před 4 lety +2

    What's the best beginner plan do you think? I have not alone any planes before but for my first one, I want to get the simple scout.

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 4 lety +2

      You are looking at it, the FT Scout is my top choice for beginners. I would recommend scratch building, a lot cheaper than getting the SBK, but a little more work on the front end. The electronics don't have to be anything special, I am running just a $15 a2212/30a ESC combo off amazon (type that in) and 4 Miuzei Servos, SG90 9gram (10pk for 18.99 on amazon) and a 9x4.7 slow fly prop. for the Tx/RX, I recommend spektrum gear for beginners, the DX6E is great and intuitive. Pick up a Lemon RX DSMX 6ch RX, and you are set. Along with a 1300mah 3s lipo. Thats my route, pretty money minded but works well. Hope it helps!

    • @AstorrAS
      @AstorrAS Před 4 lety +1

      CustomRCMods hey wait also one last thing. I see that of the FT website it wants you to buy the Aura 5 Lite Gyro System Stabilizer. Is this necessary? Should I also get that? And if so would it work with these other parts you recommend?

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 4 lety

      I wouldn’t... learning to fly with no extra help will make you a better pilot. It will be harder, but you won’t have that crutch that will be harder to take out later. Plus it’s expensive....

      @@CustomFPV sweet! I don't know if you saw my previous question on your current latest video but do you think that a 2200mAh lipo with the 1000kv 2212 motor and a 9x4 or 10x4.5 would work on the simple scout?

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 4 lety

      WamperSnapper you will have great luck with those power setups, 9 inch prop will be plenty but 10 is fine too just watch your temps. I am sure you can modify the battery compartment to hold a 2200 however the scout is designed around a 1300mah battery, so you might have to dig back into the landing gear and wing which just isn’t fun. I would pick up a 1300 for the best results. Thanks.

    • @Adam_Carbone

      @@CustomFPV Alright cool, thanks for the feedback! I am currently cutting out the plans and then I am going to glue them onto the foamboard, should I remove the paper just on the inside to reduce weight and leave the paper on the outside obviously so that the folds look nice?

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 4 lety

      I wouldn’t, the tension of paper on both sides is what gives the foam board it’s structure. Especially with the power setup you are running you are going to have no problems with power. Let me know if you have other questions, I know the scout inside and out!

    Hi, can you explain how to add Flaperon to the scout?

    • @CustomFPV
      @CustomFPV  Před 3 lety +1

      On spektrum, in system setup, go to the “aircraft type” and select “flaperon” for the wing type. From there you can set up the flaps menu like you would for standalone ones. If you are running a different TX then I would search it up on youtube or the FT forums. lots of good information up for grabs. Happy flying!
