- Evan Nagao wins his second consecutive National Yo-Yo Title with a legendary 1A freestyle yoyo performance of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird, earning the coveted seed to the World Yo-Yo Championship in Shanghai August 2018, using his signature yo-yo, The Edge from YoYoFactory, Evan went on to win the World Championship 1A title as well, performing a modified version of this routine. The 2018 US National Yo-Yo Championship was held on Sunday, July 1st at the Athenaeum Theater in Chicago, IL. @@moonmanvic I got into yoyoing in 1998, and I remember watching the world yoyo competition in 1999 and was blown away by all the tricks they could do. Back the doing double shoot the moons, and punching bags, and reverse ones was like pro level. Along with all the different string tricks they did, I learned a lot like back then, but holy shit, I wouldn't have held a candle to what they do now lol. And I considered myself almost on a pro level back then lol
But for back in 1999 all the tricks I actually could do, was up to par, now it's just insane lol. Crazy how far they've taken it, makes me wanna buy a yoyo again, memories
I want to visit an old friend today I met him roughly 6 years ago. Well I see he had a yo-yo, so I pick it up. Well I flick my wrist, the yo-yo doesn’t return to my hand. I was like yo wtf ??? He takes it from me and begins this sorcery. I just ordered myself a Yo-Yo... I’m gonna get all the bitches now...

He looks like he’s having the time of his life. Aside for the actual technique and skill, he somehow has a smile on his face and finesses the crowd the entire time. Unbelievable.

I just remember where I recognize the name. His dad and Team High Performance were my absolute role models for a while as a kid. I’d go to their yo-yo classes weekly. Evan was a tiny prodigy. I just read that he quit at 6 because he was bored lol. Pretty awesome to see such a passionate performance and that he won World’s before retiring.

That's probably the hardest trick in the entire performance, if he messes that routine the yo-yo gets tangled up and it screws him for good, had he failed he would have lost but seeing it done, damn, he made it look easy, really good job.
