EU ministers are now scrambling to find a solution.
With Israel's war raging in Gaza and Russian and Ukrainian troops locked in what looks like a near-stalemate, Kyiv is desperate to keep world attention on the conflict at home.
But what can it hope to achieve if Moscow isn't there?
And why hold a summit if some of the world's most influential players are not on board?

This war could have been avoided had Russia's genuine security concerns regarding NATO's expansion eastwards been addressed. However, the US was more concerned about using Ukraine to weaken Russia as the US Secretary of Defence made clear. Anyone who ever thought that Russia would not ultimately prevail knows little about history.
The problem today is that most of us grab things at the surface and we are scared to dig deeper for fear of seeing the truth

It has zero chance of succeeding for the simple fact that Russia is not invited so how can you call for an end of a conflict but you don’t invite both sides. Second Zelenskyy demands are unrealistic and completely ignore what’s happening on the ground him expecting Russia to give back the territories they’ve captured, give back Crimea and expect Russia to pay for the damages of the war is something they would never accept for the simple fact that their clearly winning and have all the leverage.

A peace conference where 1) Both belligerents are not present, 2) the losing party is dictating the terms and placing conditions 3) The conference is sponsored, supported and backed entirely by those who arm and sponsor Ukraine.
